I sure as hell had to go looking for Andorra.... eek

I giggled at the Angolan costumes, giggle

I think most people have issues identifying the west and central African Nations, the island nations off the west and east coast of Africa, the South Pacific island nations, and the Stans (Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tadjikistan, Kyrgyzstan).

So far the only countries I've never heard of are Andorra and Comoros.

I love geography. I made it a game for my brothers. My younger brother as an adult thanked me for the education he didn't know he was getting at the time. Now he travels the globe. smile

Their commentary was embarrassing at times.

Sure is. Did you hear when Meredith said that the children in the hospital scene didn't look sick? disbelief

Yep, that and the part where they admitted to not knowing who Tim Berners-Lee was. They're journalists, they're supposed to be informed or at least read their cue cards. <<sigh...>>

She looked bored out of her mind and miserable throughout. One time the camera focused on her as the British team marched in and she seemed to be picking her nails.

Maybe she just had a bad landing at the end of the parachute jump. mad

Yeah I noticed that awkward silence from the broadcasters when Liberia walked by....they were all blablablablabl with the other countries but were quiet about Liberia....wonder why.....

The only reason they didn't perform is because Mick said they weren't rehearsed enough for an event of that magnitude.

Totally agree. Especially Bob Costas and his constant mentions of what kind of political turmoil, strife, situation etc. the countries are, or have been, going through. There wasn't enough time to properly explain them so they ended up sounding like little jabs and pokes of nastiness, which is NOT what the Olympics - even the opening ceremony - should be about.

Did anybody else find it strange Elton John, George Michael, and Culture Club weren't in the song medley but some tattooed weirdo I've never heard of was? True Elton was bigger here than there but he's still a big part of their music history.
