Okay, so today is our last full day here. We fly out tomorrow. Appropriately, it's Ian's birthday today. I won't be able to update with pictures from that until I get home, but I've become a toad slack bitch since my last batch. Gonna try to fill in the gaps from our past week and a half. We lost our momentum for a few days there in the middle, cuz my mom got quite sick after our road trip, but we definitely got our groove back after her visit to the doctor. It's bittersweet knowing this is all coming to an end for now, but we've truly had the best time here. Normally, time goes by so quickly, but it's really stretched out and been full during our stay. Grateful for that. | |

So I've long heard about the Coates/Silber family tradition of Friday night dinners. Ian has told me about how warm and welcoming they've been to him as a Christian in an extended family that's primarily Jewish. He's told me about the meals, the customs, the prayers and ceremonies and it all sounded so beautiful that I really wanted to experience it with them someday.
Well, we no sooner got out of the car from our roadtrip then we had to turn around to make it to Tracy's aunt Rolene's for Shabbat dinner. To our surprise, she had also prepared a cake for what was a combination of Ian's birthday and her own. I love this family, but Rolene in particular is just a doll and has always been so warm and engaging with me. She even bought some liquor just for me! The women typically begin the evening with a candle lighting ceremony and a prayer and all of the men were given yarmulkes to wear. Anyway, here's a not so random smattering of the evening's festivities... Né & Très arriving

So I guess every year in Sydney, they have this thing called The Easter Show. It runs for a few weeks and it's like this super, mega deluxe carnival. I hadn't been to the carnie in ages, so it was kinda fun. It's nice to know that some things are good, crazy, trashy fun wherever you go. My only regret is that I didn't win a P!NK or Britney carnival mirror. They didn't have any. I tried.
