Home Decor Thread

What is they style of your home?
How do you put your own individual "stamp" on the place? Piles of dirty laundry DO NOT count!!!
Make a homo happy...POST PICS! biggrin
Before and Afters would be awesome too.

As some know, we moved into a new place earlier this month.
We love this house!yay!
Things are still a mess but the transformation has begun...

Kitchen

Before:

Now:

All around the kitchen/living area there's a ledge (left there when the ceilings where blown out to expose the beams) it serves as a pretty cool way for me to store some of my paintings while sort-of displaying them.

I have posted before, but this is my apartment right after I moved in, in October 2008. I have an additional bookcase now, my computer desk has my laptop and lots of crap on it and a matching chair, and some more things on the hutch in my kitchen, but other than that, it’s the same. (Sorry for the fuzzy photos and the mess. lol )

Thanks Ren. This is FIIIIINALLY (our 4th home) the kitchen of my dreams. Or as close as I've ever gotten. No complaints! I do all the cooking for most holidays and I've always had kitchens where I'm way the fuck away from all the socializing like I'm the maid and shit. lol

The open beam thing is cool to us because our first home had that (up in the mountains Northeast PA), and then other parts of the house are more mid-century-ish (like our second home, a Levittowner in Philly).

Our last home (last year) we rather forget! lol

I love decorating!

I do not have pics I can post, but our home is like a rustic cottage. I have decorated it very rustic. We have this beautiful huge yard, with natural landscaping. We also have a beautiful front yard, too, xeroscaped, with natural landscaping.

It's not a big house.. really but we have two patios and a sunroom (one small balcony one between on the side of the house the master bedroom and the kitchen for coffee and a sunroom, then this opens-up and walks down to another larger backyard patio.) Our backyard opens up to a greenbelt and creek. We have 6-foot wrought-iron fence (to keep the coyotes away!lol) on one side and then in the back, separating from greenbelt, so the view is not obstructed. The neighbors to our left have swimming pool, so there is a privacy fence on that side! LOL But there is plenty of space between houses. Really there is more outdoor living than indoor. We have a number of large French doors up..then fresh air circulates through the house if we want. The living area is still very small, I think. We have a living room, dining room, kitchen sunroom, three bedrooms and office. But still it's small--like a cottage.

It's a work in progress because there is much we still need to address.

I really got some good deals online, actually! I got this really pretty wrought-iron bathroom accessories for cheap. We have it in the master bath.

Our kitchen.. I have a fleur-de-lis "stainless steal" backsplash, but not all over, just where in certain places where needed. I just thought it would be overpowering with all stainless steel. Then the wall.. is sort of this antiquing look sort of a yellow but more antique looking. I also have Mexican tile switch plates. We have tile floor. We need to replace the countertop. I was looking at Vetrazzo recycled glass, but that is very expensive. It's beautiful though. I am not sure exactly what I want. I was thinking maybe wood. I am not sure--like butcher block.

We are still working on the kitchen, too.

Our master bedroom is very pretty. We have this sort of raised "coffin" like ceiling, I want to accent with crown-molding, but I'm not sure. It's very nice and high. Our master bedroom has French doors, opening up to a side balcony patio, across from the kitchen--also having French doors, opening up to this patio. We have coffee out there a lot! LOL

We need to renovate the master bathroom more completely. I want to have a doorless shower.. we have a small walk-in one now, but I want to remodel to make it bigger. We already have a large bathtub in there. Also we have this really pretty sunroom we need to renovate at one point.. I want to open up the living area into the sunroom because the view is so pretty and peaceful. Right now the living area walks into the sunroom, but it's the windows well you can see the view but it could be better. I also want to build a storage unit under it.

The guest room.. (well the bedroom we use as guestroom) has French doors, opening up to the sunroom. The 2 bedrooms and office are on a separate side of the house, completely private with a guest bathroom--which is typical.. not so special. I have decorative tile up... but. It's pretty, but nothing special except it's big. I'd like to renovate the guest bathroom, too. And then our other bedroom right now.. well we shall see. It is simple a reading room now, and extra guest room.

Like I said, it's a work in progress.

P.S. I like the modern look, too! But our house more lended it itself to rustic, so that's what I did. Maybe eventually, modern! I love the "clean" lines of modern.

I have pics, but I am not a member of a posting site! This is what I have to do! LOL

Your house looks wonderful.. Yes, this is a good thread to get ideas. I think it's fun to decorate! LOL

Like I said, our house is a work in progress! LOL But it's nice.

Right now, we have that.. what is it..Berber carpet.. and then we have some other area rugs on top! We want to eventually get wood floors, but the carpet was new when we moved in! We have a tile entryway!..

Oh. but the fireplace needs to be renovated! I forgot about that one! LOL

lol You seem to be a very funny guy.

The red in the new kitchen looks so much better than all that white. I have a white kitchen but I ´ve been thinking about painting one wall red for some time now, and your pic is the best inspiration to do so.

That ledge looks good but isn´t heating a bit expensive now that you guys no longer have a ceiling there ?

Yay! Go for it with the red.
One word of caution...be PATIENT.
Reds take a few (sometimes several, depending on the red) coats. But worth it. And be sure to get the tinted primer. I used a tinted primer specific to this color (Behr:California Poppy) and needed to do quite a few coats of the paint. 2 houses ago I painted our backsplash red (slightly deeper than this one) and used a grey primer (the lady at the paint counter gave me a pigment to mix myself) and that went a bit faster.
Either way, be patient and do it. I'm totally glad I did it. biggrin

And the heating is not bad.
Luckily we have gas and not electric baseboard heat. Our last house we had a dumbass landlord who wouldn't fix the heat which was barely working and we got hit with $500-$650 bills all this winter! We are so glad to be done with that mess.
Ceiling fans help push the heat back down. wink
