Some of these comments kill me , partcularly about the content of these tv interviews- because it's clear folks have no idea how tele-journalism works. The questions & topics the interviewer is allowed to touch upon are determined before the celebrity even hits the chair, so it's not about painting a celebrity one way or another. You get to see another facet of their personality, by way of them answering questions related to topics they and their managerial/legal teams/personal advisory circle have already agreed upon with the interviewer.
In all fairness, has anyone here ever heard any celebrity on God's green earth ever say that Oprah has double-crossed them, used them for ratings, or the like? I sure haven't. But what I have heard are people making all sorts of baseless accusations projecting their own muck onto these celebrities. It might not be popular for me to say that, but I think that it is at least quasi-rational and fair to all involved in these interviews. At the end of the day, it's a choice on behalf of those sitting in the interview seat. They can always say no if they were asked, or Harpo (which, if you know anything about production, there are other people actually responsible for coming up with show ideas besides Winfrey herself)---Harpo can always choose to decline a guest or topic. They can say yes, they can say no. That's what free will means.
Wow, you got all of that from my sentence? My comments were based on the person's adamant defense and praise of Ms. Winfrey. That's all. I'm not naive enough to think that in spite of all of her success and goodwill, that Oprah wouldn't see the benefits of having the first exclusive interview with the person every media outlet has been clamoring after since her moms death. She is a businesswoman. That's not hate, that's reality.
As far as the interview is concerned, she's an adult. Young but an adult nonetheless. It's her decision. It will be about one month since her mother passing. I'm not sure I'd be ready to talk about such a great lost so soon. But that's me, not Bobbi Kris. More power to her.

Never suggested anyone here was naive enough to think that, and I never said you were a "hater" (I never use that word in that context. . I was speaking general terms about people being so up in arms that this interview will take place. |

It hasn't even been a month. I wanna like Oprah, I really do, but can she back off? What can she possibly say now in such a short window of time? Let the girl breathe...
But hey, they let it happen like the Jacksons let it happen. |

Cool. Oh and I think most probably wouldn't be surprised by her doing an interview with anyone if more time had passed. But hey, who are we to judge? Only she knows if she's ready to talk or not. She'll still have my prayers regardless. |

Just a sidebar folks for shits and giggles when I lived in NC I was a nurse at a nursing home in one of the richer suburbs outside Fayetteville. There were only two Black residents in the whole place and one was an older lady. One night I went in her room to change a dressing on her wound and I looked up and on her wall was a handwritten signature pic from Oprah turns out the lady was related to Stedman Graham I asked her about it and to make along story short she told me that Stedman would not marry Oprah cuz she was not pretty and that's putting it nicely. This was in 1998. I thought the shit was hilarious and the signature was real too

The little girl isnt going to make it... gotta feeling. Bobby is her father and she didnt have a great upbringing with a crackhead Whitney as a role model.
Lets hope she can learn something from her Grandma before she dies. |

It's the name of the game and those that play it need to play it well. With that said, who knows, there may be thing BK wants the public to know, instead of all the rumor mills. Is there better hands to put the child in, if she wants to speak to her mother's fans? |

I don't understand what has everyone's panties in a bunch. Someone was bound to get an interview with BK--like someone noted, she IS getting paid for this interview. Quite frankly, I think Oprah is one of the more compassionate interviewers out there. Who do you want to interview her, Wendy Williams? |

I am not naive. Does Oprah ask hard questions? Yes. Otherwise she would not be worth her title as a journalist. What do you all want her to do? Pat the people on the head and assure them they don't have to answer anything? I've been watching her from the beginning, and I definitely think that she draws out the humanity in those she interviews. |

Except for Steven Tyler's ass, she ain't reeled me in for years. I admit I did watch her Whitney interview - and shook my head at her getting an Oscar-winning tear jerk at Whitney's "Bobbay spat at me" comment... - but other than that, child boo. |

Just some haters! And if anyone on here was given the opportunity to promote ANYTHING on Oprah's shows, you would jump at it.
I never said Oprah was perfect. I said she was doing her job. And quite well, I will add. And let's not forget that those she interviews are willing participants. Believe me, no one is waking up with a bloody microphone in their bed.
I will concede that this is not the case with MJ's kids though. They were victims of their guardians. And I do agree that that particular interview was a bit weird. But grown folks, please! They are more than happy to be interviewed by Oprah. |
