Interesting observation. The first 2 had wholesome public images, and the latter had controversial public images.

Makes me glad Prince found God when he did-seems to have saved him from self destruction too. This is really so sad. That pic of MJ and Whitney made me smile though.

Interesting because Houston was also religious (and so was MJ).

I think it boils down to that MJ and Houston were drug addicts and Prince and Madonna

were not.

Madonna's religious too with her red string.
it's more the image that was portrayed...

Believe me, the MJ thread when he died was one of the worst and most disresepectfu i've EVER SEEN. Some people were so disgusting and rude in it. Total assholes some people were that day. I see you have some losers here once again trying to disrespect Whitney and her fans.

If you're not interested, not a fan or think this is not "important news" then stay the f**k outta this thread, PERIOD. You are NOT wanted.

She JUST DIED, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all or at least be respectful.

Whitney was a tremendous talent and deserves respect. No one can take away what she achieved. She will always be a legend.

[Edited 2/11/12 18:19pm]

I disagree with this.

There's nothing faker than eulogies. I think it is important to discuss her life and all that

was contained in it and not just fou-fou her voice because she was talented. If you piece

her life together and place it in perspective, you can be mesmerized at her talent but

saddened by the choices she made in life.

In the real world...y'know, countries other than America, this is not important news. She's

another dead, pampered, out of touch celebrity in other parts of the globe.

I am sad that she's dead because it seems like she was trying to get her shit together but

life will go on.

She JUST PASSED away TODAY for christ sake eek .

There will be PLENTY of enough time to over analyze and pick apart her life. Its tacky to throw out someone imperfections when they JUST pass away its so tacky and disrespectful as if that is suppose to suggest people should not be as sad as they are for a person who has just passed...

Has nothing to do with it. There are artists who were drug addicts a lot longer than Nippy was and they are still around. Look at Sly Stone. Again, it was just her time to go.

Yeah, everybody back in the day thought Prince and Madonna were the crazy, balls-to-the-wall (or face) kinda people and that Whitney and MJ were the family-friendly, Disney-safe type entertainers. And in reality, it was the exact opposite. Just glad that they're still around at least. Though, I really wish my Lady T and Slick Rick were still here, as well.

I think that is part of the problem, they were so worried about pleasing everyone else, they lost themselves and turned to drugs to ease their pain, while Prince and Madonna gave a big fuck you to the world and pretty much didn't care what people thought of them. Less pressure that way. Less demons to run from.

I would think that too. Like Rick James, Amy Winehouse, Jimi, Janice, Jim Morrison and a host of others gone too soon. I have two friends who used to use tons of coke. They always tried to get me to follow, but I never did. I hate drugs. (not weed, that's not a drug) One of them had a stroke and is now an invalid and my other friend was found in her car dead at age 36 from heart failure. They were younger than me.

Prince and Madonna to my knowledge never got into that garbage heavily. But then you have to look at Keith Richards and so many others who are drug machines and are still kicking. Who knows who will remain and who will fly away?

Why are we in here talking about "Crack Kills"? Who said Crack had anything to do with it? I really wish we'd stop assuming.

u're right, we still don't know about that...maybe it was not the crack per se...but we all know that crack and other drugs can lead a person 2 that sad end 4 a lot of causes. It's important, in times like these, 2 get some lessons...so maybe that won't happen 2 other people. It's not about pointing the finger...

what a fucking stupid thing to say. i hope when your mother dies, no one has anything kind to say about her, about what she meant to your family, about she made life better just by her being here. no, let them say nothing about that but just point out what a silly ho she was. now how would you like that?

and who the fuck cares about what they're doing in other countries? this board skews north american and europe, and 'news' is what ever anyone is interested in talking about. again, what stupid fucking thing to say. i notice you're here posting, aren't you?

I don't think it was a stupid thing to say: eulogies are notorious for painting an incomplete

picture in honor of the dead. I'm saying let's realize that our celebrity-centric culture is bogus;

we honor the dead and refuse to view their lives in perspective. Houston was a drug addict;

the message here, regardless of whether or not her death is the result of drugs, should be a

cautionary tale. Let's not forget that she squandered her talent and her life because she

was a drug addict.

But because she was famous, and we treat our famous citizens differently, we'll go on and on

about how wonderful she was. I'm not dissing her - I'm saying that there's a deeper meaning

behind her death other than she was a great singer who died too soon. She was a singer; she

didn't know me and I didn't know her intimately. So that bit of yours about my mother dying is

irrelevant.

And second of all, your comment about what is happening in other countries (like Syria, for

example) only implies that you are one person with whom having a genteel and intelligent

conversation with remains an impossibility.

Here's another quote I found that I made back in April of 2010 on this thread: Whitney's Voice Fails Her...s Walk Out

...where I said:

Yeah, she's determined to make a full recovery and vindicate all that she's been through. But it doesn't seem to be in the cards for her. At this point, I don't see her voice getting better over time. I'm afraid her story is gonna end in tragedy ala Phyllis Hyman... "I'm tired. I'm tired. Those of you that I love know who you are. May God bless you."

Nice rememberances...
This is hitting me hard. I used to sing ALL of Whitney Houstons songs all the time. I absolutely loved her voice. I practiced along to her songs countless times & her music affects me deeply. I cannot believe how temporary life is. How fragile music is. Everything you know, everything you hold dear can be ripped away at a moments notice & you won't even see it coming. I always figured Whitney would record another record that would blow us all away. So sad that was not meant to be. 48 years old? Ugh. It makes me sick. Such a loss RIP Whitney Houston My condolences to my friend Bobby Brown & his children.
My deepest condolences to Whitney Houston's family and friends.

I first met Whitney when we were in Rome on tour. I couldn't sleep so I
went down to the lobby. There she was sitting on the couch reading a book,
apparently she couldn't sleep either. We sat and hung out chatting for
quite a while. She was awesome. Over the years, we ran into each other at
several other events, the most memorable being when we were performing in
Rio for the Hollywood Rocks festival. I happened to walk up to my room from
the pool where a bunch of us had been sitting and saw the news about the
Northridge earthquake. I remember telling her, the guys from Aerosmith and
others about the news...

Again... what a great person with a great voice and amazing talent. She
will be missed.

Her "imperfections" is what made her human, not her singing talent that only 1% of the

world's population has.

You have celebrity-itis embedded into your public consciousness; I do not. She was a singer

and an entertainer. A singer and entertainer's death is not enough to get me to not survey all

that their life encompassed and glean any applicable lesson of their life on how to live out my

own. This is what history is all about.

Relax guys; you can be critical and respectful at the same time.
