Simon just threw Bobby under the bus on CNN, saying that he wished he and Whitney wouldn't have hooked up. I love Whitney and all, but Simon is a dick for saying that.

I'm thinking about staying in tonite. I'm too grief-strickin to go out. sad

They need to quit putting the blame on Bobby. If Whitney Houston wanted to get better and cleaned up- it was her OWN choice.

They just need to stop... Bobby had nothing to do with Whitney and the way she turned out. See, people are already trying to make him part of the blame. I'm sure Whitney herself wouldn't blame Bobby for what she did since she was already using by the time they met so they need to stop and let her rest in peace and let him grieve.

I don't think it was a stupid thing to say: eulogies are notorious for painting an incomplete

picture in honor of the dead. I'm saying let's realize that our celebrity-centric culture is bogus;

we honor the dead and refuse to view their lives in perspective. Houston was a drug addict;

the message here, regardless of whether or not her death is the result of drugs, should be a

cautionary tale. Let's not forget that she squandered her talent and her life because she

was a drug addict.

But because she was famous, and we treat our famous citizens differently, we'll go on and on

about how wonderful she was. I'm not dissing her - I'm saying that there's a deeper meaning

behind her death other than she was a great singer who died too soon. She was a singer; she

didn't know me and I didn't know her intimately. So that bit of yours about my mother dying is

irrelevant.

And second of all, your comment about what is happening in other countries (like Syria, for

example) only implies that you are one person with whom having a genteel and intelligent

conversation with remains an impossibility.

isn't that the point of a eulogy or do you not understand the meaning of the word?

you certainly never saw me post or anyone else you've chosen to direct your condescension and animus toward that whitney didn't have issues with drugs or that she wasn't struggling to get her life back on track. we are simply expressing our sadness at her death. i have seen posters make threads about their family members who've died, and other posters - perfect strangers that don't know that poster intimately - come to post their sympathies. it doesn't matter that i don't know whitney or anyone else on this board whose family member may have died. it's about giving support, expressing your thoughts, providing comfort - you know? being a compassionate human being, which you obviously know nothing about from that high up perch you're sitting on where you get to pass judgment on everyone else.

since you're so happy to hand out recriminations about whitney's and mj's respective falls from grace, why don't you remember that we all fall short of the glory at times, and it isn't about when we fall, it's all about when we have the grace to get back up. at the time of his death, mj had sold out 50 concert dates. whitney was producing and starring in a movie. i'm sorry but i don't choose to have your arrogant, nasty, protologist's view of either of these people.

how the fuck can anyone have a genteel and intelligent conversation with you when you're the farthest thing from both of those words?

You prove my point exactly when you write that human existence is not about just the great

times but acknowledging that:

"we all fall short of the glory at times, and it isn't about when we fall, it's all about when we have the grace to get back up."

Those are your words. All I'm saying is that we need to recognize her faults and learn from her

mistakes; and her faults and everything that constituted her life, not just her talent, but her

shortcomings, y'know, the things that make us all human and alike, are just as important as her

triumphs. So I think mentioning her trials and tribulations right alongside her prodigious talents

is not disrespectful but actually perspicacious and open-minded. There is a big difference be-

tween someone's dead mother and a dead, unrelated celebrity.

You need to relax, dude, and cease and desist with the rancor. I'm not fighting you, just

expressing a different perspective.

I think you need to ADD 3 hours so that meant she died at 6:55 EST.

The truth is SHE got Bobby started on coke. She was the one with all the high-end hollywood friends in the 80's.

Not much of a shocker here... sad for a second but really since everyone now is on pills, get ready for allot more of these semi-young deaths.

pretty fucked up how pills and of course im assuming she was on them, everyone seems to be.... mixing.

Poor Bobby. I truly believe that whitney was on drugs first. I know they loved each other and I hope this doesn't cause Bobby to relapse. I feel this is gonna kill Cissy-just too much.

I agree: Whitney Houston was a hood rat way before she met Bobby Brown.

The public persona portrayed in the 80s wasn't authentic. She was ghetto and I'm sure

that was what attracted her to Bobby Brown.

I will not point fingers. You know, it was done to death during her life and will be done to death afterward. It happened, the demons of it took hold of her life, and she tried to fight them. It's not as easy as a patch or a stick of gum. The blame game won't bring my diva back. The blame game won't erase what has already happened. I will choose to remember her as the "pretty lady in white" who amazed me during that football game. I will remember her as the "lady who danced in the shadows" in her video I'm Your Baby Tonight.

I'm personally getting upset because of all the ugliness on other forums and the people who destroyed a wonderful tribute page on FB with their anonymous trash. I can't expect the Internet to perfectly behave and that's going to get dismissed. Tonight is going to be all about her, the music, and how she made me feel growing up. I choose to be positive because I'm already hurting as it is over her death. Getting mad at sarcasm (haven't seen it here like it is elsewhere) won't do any good.

Besides, Whitney would have wanted a fan to keep it classy. I do this for my diva. heart rose

May she rest in peace. dove

this isn't the time or place for your negativity. there is plenty of time to assess her life and point out where it came up short, if that's what you're inclined to do - which you seemingly are.

everyone on this board is well aware of whitney's struggles with drugs and alcohol, captain obvious. you add nothing wise or insightful to the conversation by pointing out what we already know. you're not open-minded. you're a judgmental, moralizing jerk, happy to dance on this woman's grave while her child and mother and family and fans are grieving. you remind me nothing more than of nelson lutz on the simpsons, whose only contribution to the conversation is to yell out 'ha-ha' whenever something bad happens to bart. you don't even know the meaning of the words i wrote.
