Tragic.

Much as I think she wasted her life, she was still someones mother, daughter and sister. 48 is no age to go. I hope she died peacefully.

I think this post sums up my feelings about her death perfectly.

Thanks for articulating what I could not, SquirrelMeat.

Damn.........!!!!!!!!!!!I played many songs of Whitney and Michael in bands and now my heart aches again. Her true talent will be sorely missed. Lets hope we all have the respect to remember the positive as I'm sure most of us wanted a full recovery of such a talent. R. I. P.

BOBBY BROWN"Crying Fits" Over WhitneyBut Trying to Perform Concert

Bobby Brown is distraught and in and out of crying fits

Bobby Brown is distraught and "in and out of crying fits" ... after getting the news thatWhitney Houston is dead -- but his New Edition band mates are by his side trying to console him.

New Edition has a concert tonight in Mississippi -- and believe it or not sources close to the group tell TMZ ... not only will New Edition go on as scheduled, but as of now Bobby is also planning to perform.

We're told Bobby is going to try to get through the entire show.

Bobby and Whitney had an infamously tumultuous 15 year marriage.

Bobby Brown 'Beside Himself' with Grief: Relative

Saturday February 11, 2012 09:30 PM EST

Bobby Brown 'Beside Himself' with Grief: Relative

Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown

Gregg DeGuire/WireImage

Upon hearing ofWhitney Houston's death on Saturday, her ex-husband, Bobby Brown, immediately began calling friends and family.

"He wanted to tell everyone about it before it hit the news," one of his relatives tells PEOPLE. "He didn't want any of us to hear about it on television."

As Brown spoke to family members, the shock of Houston's sudden death turned to grief. "He could hardly get the words out when he called me," says the relative. "He was sobbing, and by the end of the call, I was sobbing too. He's beside himself right now."

Brown has had no official comment on the death of Houston. A source tells PEPOPLE that Brown learned the news about his ex-wife while in Memphis, where he is currently located for a New Edition concert. He is "shattered and beyond devastated," says the source.

Houston's passing was confirmed by her publicist, and Beverly Hills Police Lieut. Mark Rosen told PEOPLE on Saturday that the 48-year-old singer "was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. this afternoon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel," following a 3:43 p.m. call from hotel security.

The best-selling pop artist wed soul crooner Bobby Brown in 1992 in a marriage that surprised many, given Brown's bad-boy reputation. The following year, the couple welcomed a daughter, Bobbi Kristina.

After a tumultuous relationship that included a charge of domestic abuse against Brown in 1993, the two divorced in 2007.

Despite their breakup, the couple remained friendly, the relative tells PEOPLE. "They had Bobbi Kristina in common, and were determined to be co-parents to her. They didn't hate each other. In fact, there was a lot of respect. So this has hit Bobby really hard. He is devastated. He loved her very much. This is a very sad time for him."

How is it that Michael and Whitney fucked up their lives and are dead yet Prince and Madonna are still here and dropping albums and tours and Super Bowls like no one's business?

Prince and Madonna somehow managed to avoid the pitfalls that Whitney and, to a lesser extent, Michael had to suffer from.

That.

RIP Whitney... how many will it take for people tp realise drug isn't good? Oh, yeah.. never enough. Forget it. bored2

Yeah, I love Graffiti Bridge movie, so what? ''Oooooooooooh Montreal, say it!''

WHITNEY HOUSTON'Partied Heavily' Last Night

0211_whitney_hosuton_ex_3Whitney Houston "partied heavily" at the Beverly Hilton hotel with a group of friends ... hotel staff tell TMZ.

We're told Whitney and her friends were in the bar for a time and the group was drinking and very loud. Our sources say even though the hotel is busy with all the Grammy festivities, Whitney and her group stood out because they were so boisterous.

Again, it's too early to know what caused her death.

Houston was found dead today at the Beverly Hilton. She was 48.

DIONNE WARWICK & CISSY HOUSTON

Whitney Seemed Fine Just Before Death

0211_dionne_warwick_whitney_houston_ex
Dionne Warwick
and Cissy Houston spoke with Whitney Houston by phone just before she died and say Whitney seemed fine ... TMZ has learned.

Whitney's mother, Cissy Houston, spoke with her daughter 25-30 minutes before she died and nothing seemed unusual ... sources tell TMZ. We're told they talked about attending the Clive Davis pre-Grammy party.

Dionne Warwick, Whitney's cousin, called as well ... several hours before Whitney died ... to make sure they were sitting at the same table at Clive's party. And again ... there were no signs of trouble.

The people in touch with Dionne say she is inconsolable adding, "She is an absolute mess."

As for Cissy, we're told she is "hysterical."

what a fucking stupid thing to say. i hope when your mother dies, no one has anything kind to say about her, about what she meant to your family, about she made life better just by her being here. no, let them say nothing about that but just point out what a silly ho she was. now how would you like that?

and who the fuck cares about what they're doing in other countries? this board skews north american and europe, and 'news' is what ever anyone is interested in talking about. again, what stupid fucking thing to say. i notice you're here posting, aren't you?

I don't think it was a stupid thing to say: eulogies are notorious for painting an incomplete

picture in honor of the dead. I'm saying let's realize that our celebrity-centric culture is bogus;

we honor the dead and refuse to view their lives in perspective. Houston was a drug addict;

the message here, regardless of whether or not her death is the result of drugs, should be a

cautionary tale. Let's not forget that she squandered her talent and her life because she

was a drug addict.

But because she was famous, and we treat our famous citizens differently, we'll go on and on

about how wonderful she was. I'm not dissing her - I'm saying that there's a deeper meaning

behind her death other than she was a great singer who died too soon. She was a singer; she

didn't know me and I didn't know her intimately. So that bit of yours about my mother dying is

irrelevant.

And second of all, your comment about what is happening in other countries (like Syria, for

example) only implies that you are one person with whom having a genteel and intelligent

conversation with remains an impossibility.

isn't that the point of a eulogy or do you not understand the meaning of the word?

you certainly never saw me post or anyone else you've chosen to direct your condescension and animus toward that whitney didn't have issues with drugs or that she wasn't struggling to get her life back on track. we are simply expressing our sadness at her death. i have seen posters make threads about their family members who've died, and other posters - perfect strangers that don't know that poster intimately - come to post their sympathies. it doesn't matter that i don't know whitney or anyone else on this board whose family member may have died. it's about giving support, expressing your thoughts, providing comfort - you know? being a compassionate human being, which you obviously know nothing about from that high up perch you're sitting on where you get to pass judgment on everyone else.

since you're so happy to hand out recriminations about whitney's and mj's respective falls from grace, why don't you remember that we all fall short of the glory at times, and it isn't about when we fall, it's all about when we have the grace to get back up. at the time of his death, mj had sold out 50 concert dates. whitney was producing and starring in a movie. i'm sorry but i don't choose to have your arrogant, nasty, protologist's view of either of these people.

how the fuck can anyone have a genteel and intelligent conversation with you when you're the farthest thing from both of those words? this thread isn't about syria, idiot, it's about whitney houston, therefore that's the only topic i need be concerned about. i mean, really. completely irrelevant.

My heart goes out to Bobbi Kristina, Cissy, Bobby, Dionne and the rest of the family. This will be difficult enough but when you add the media firestorm it's gonna be crazy. sad

I always held out hope that she would pull through like Natalie Cole but ya just never know and I ain't in the mood to speculate or accuse.

I think I'll listen to my favorite Whitney song...
