I hope her family and fans can get through this and that people can remain respectful

and with that, I'm outta here for awhile

yeah, right, prodigal. this is the same poster who implored me a few posts back to have a 'genteel and intelligent conversation' with him/her. that's why i have no problem showing my 'rancor', as s/he put it. i have no desire to be genteel with poster like this.

When a celebrity dies, you can surely expect faux-remorse and over wrought grief

from "fans."

Again, I will not discuss her life without remarking on the totality of it; drugs, alcohol,

voice, movies, crack, mother, daughter, wife. She's more than just a singer and if

y'all can for a second understand this and place her life in perspective, maybe you will

learn something from this and be able to express more than just grief that'll last for

two days.

What Whitney Houston struggled against, stood for, and lived with is remarkable. In this

particular hour of reflection, I decide to view her life as a whole, and not just the parts.

Good god, does this forum lack insight and all of y'all are just bumbling fanatics going through

life with your gazed fixed on stars (i.e. celebrities)?

i do not own a single solitary cd, cassette or album of whitney houston. i have never purchased one in life. if you want to denigrate me as a 'stan' or bumbling fanatic, go right ahead. it's in keeping with your behavior thus far. no one is lacking insight here, except you into your contempt which you are passing off as your 'first amendment right' (pul-leaze). you're not being contructive or placing her life in 'perspective'. you're just being offensive, as prodigal stated.

I know some people resent Michael being mentioned in this thread, and I don't want to discuss his life comparatively in here either, but this just had to be posted:

Both of them, equally, in the celebrity world, have always been the epitome of beauty to me.

Far too often when something bad happens, the black guy gets blamed. Whitney Houston was trying to please too many people, specifically trying to "keep it real" when she should have walked away from a whole host of rats. Why did Clive Davis have her singing "popular" music in the first place when it was beneath her? If white industry suits didnt aggressively market, and endorse the culture of trash she'd still be breathing and that aint got nothing to do with Bobby Brown.

With all due respect, dont pull the race card on this. This aint the time nor the place. Whitney was a grown-ass woman, and she made poor decisions along the way (as we all tend to from time to time). Maybe you're right when you say the (ahem) "White Industry Suits" (nice avatar by the way) DO market a trash culture, but Bobby is to blame for Whitney's downfall, and you are in fucking denial if you disagree.

Stop blaming Bobby for Whitney's own mistakes- she chose to do drugs. Nobody can force anyone to do anything in life.

Some people just can't accept the fact that she made bad decisions.

Would it kill this site to stop with the nagging and fighting for one night? Hell, we've been through this with Michael and now Teena, are you seriously going on arguing in a thread about a now-late music legend? Seriously?

Jennifer Hudson is doing a tribute. They should get Adele to switch her set as well. She doesn't need any more promo for herself.

Just look at the story yesterday about whitney at the club :- I mean people can only take so much criticism. They did Mike the same way-damn shame. Yes they had their issues, but they didn't deserve all the bullshit that was constantly reported about them.

It's a tough life to live. I'm so thankful to Britney's father. I don't know where she'd be if it wasn't for him. I'm still mad she didn't pack her shit and move back to Louisiana though. It'd make me even happier.

LA is a dangerous, DANGEROUS place. Stay away people.

I agree Timmy84 life is to short for all of this. sad

Let us just come together to remember this incredibly talented woman and what she gave to the world through her music. All the other speculations can wait another day. I am just so disgusted with some of the comments in this thread related to Whitney... so distasteful... the arguing and controversies can wait...

Yes, as far as I'm concerned, that's what I'm saying (not saying though that it is impossible), but there is not one shred of proof that he truly was an addict, other than people talking out their asses. According to the coroner he was a healthy man. But he had a sleeping disorder! End of it. I do not want to turn this into a Michael thread.

Im hearing that Jennifer Hudson and Chaka will be performing a tribute tomorrow, so much for a couple more awards being shown live.

Adele could pull a Whitney cover between now and tomorrow... Of course she wouldnt sound like Whitney but she has the vocals to attempt it... Jen does to. I appreciate that their allowing Jennifer to do it instead of a predictable pop singer but I still think Adele would better suit it.. Jennifer tends to shout and oversings alot.

Either way I am happy with the choice... I agree Adele doesnt need anymore promo and could do a tribute easily.
