I've never been so embarassed for black folks in my life. It felt like a 4 hour self-minstrel show.

Oh goodness dont get my started on that ghetto hot mess trash.. disgusting how BET does the black legends... I was also disgusted in the way they semi tributed Teddy Pendergrass hell if you even want to call what they did a tribute eek disbelief

Has Aretha been performing?, cause she doesn't need any rehearsal time to belt one out.

That would be incredible.

I feel incredibly sad with this tbh.

Perhaps Amy Winehouse's demise could be viewed as something in terms if when rather than if, but it's the slow (on the face of it) decline in terms of WH that bothers me, from such lofty heights...like MJ it's hard to think someone that popular is no longer here. I'm not saying she's as iconic as Madonna but it's the surreal feeling knowing that someone you would know straight off by first name is gone.

If it's any consolation to fans, it's that kind of cross-generational popularity will never be seen again.

I know I make little jokes about her time to time and she was messy as hell and entertained me (can we say Wendy Williams?) , but I've always loved her and her voice and Waiting to Exhale takes me back to my junior high days and I've sang her songs in public before and not ashamed to admit it. R.I.P. Nippy, the greatest voice of all sad I felt very shocked and shed a couple of tears feeling like I was reminded of MJ again and remembering them being friends, but I'm okay now though I was at work when I read the org. You know, after seeing the article yesterday with her cranberry juice and cuts or whatever that was, I came on the org this evening where my Madonna topic was still open and suddenly had a feeling I was going to see RIP and thought of Whitney at the same time I saw it, and was thinking of MJ's comeback and him being gone 3 years ago all at once.

Needless to say, the Queen of Soul (and Whitney's godmother) is totally stunned by this news:

It's so stunning and unbelievable. I couldn't believe what I was reading coming across the TV screen

Here's what the original writer and performer of "I Will Always Love You" had to say:

Mine is only one of the millions of hearts broken over the death of Whitney Houston. I will always be grateful and in awe of the wonderful performance she did on my song and I can truly say from the bottom of my heart, 'Whitney, I will always love you. You will be missed.

"Didn't We Almost Have it All''

My favorite Whitney recording is this beautiful ballad from her sophomore album.

TEARS! My absolute favorite video.

Dear Lord, Please keep our sister Whitney Houston in your loving place so she will not hurt anymore.

Say what you want about Whitney but she knew the Lord and the Lord knew her. Thank you for your blessed voice. Too young to die but we are not in control of destiny.

Rest in PEACE Whitney! You are loved. Praying for strength for her mother Cissy, daughter Bobbi Kristina and Bobby Brown. angel

ThankUPrince!

Vainandy is a trip.....and then I learned a few weeks ago he didn't even know the songwriters she worked with and who else she worked with and who they worked with. And he didn't know Etta James till awhile back.

Whitney I love you girl, please forgive my weed and crack parodies of your songs! I blame Debra Wilson and Weird Al for my toilet humor lol

Despite people trying to pit them against each other, I admired the fact that they both looked at

each other as musical sisters.

For once Jermaine was making some sense. He talked about how the industry suits and hangers on surround celebs and isolate them from their support system so they can control their lives and their $$.

I doubt it. I can't even blame a rush-done tribute because they had ample opportunity to give it up to James Brown and Teddy Pendergrass and they never do a good job with neither. So I doubt they would give a decent tribute to their first Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.

Does Simon Cowell Feel Responsible For Drew’s ‘X Factor’ Elimination?

Simon Cowell Reacts To Whitney Houston Death; Says He Planned To Consider Her As X Factor Judge

February 11, 2011

Simon Cowell says the team behind “The X Factor” had planned to discuss Whitney Houston as a possible judge for the FOX reality singing competition on Monday.

Reacting to the news of the pop superstar’s untimely death on Saturday at the age of 48, in Beverly Hills, Simon said, contrary to the rumors, she had not been approached, but he suggested he thought she might be interested.

“The rumors that had got back to us… and that’s often what happens when people want to be on these shows, you know, somebody tells someone to get the word out, it’s normally a sign that they are interested,” Simon told Piers Morgan on CNN on Saturday night.

And Simon admitted his team planned to discuss the icon as a potential “X Factor” judge, but had not gotten to the point of approaching her.

“We were ironically going to meet on Monday and of course one of the names we were going to be talking about in that meeting as a possible mentor on the new series of ‘ X Factor’ was actually going to be Whitney Houston.

“I have no idea genuinely whether she really was that interested or whether she would have…” Simon trailed off. “Given the choice, I would have liked to have taken her under my wing as well, because she would have been the ultimate, ultimate mentor to any contestant coming on the show.”

Simon said Whitney was the superstar that contestant after contestant over the years on his reality shows has tried to emulate.

“Whitney — ever since I’ve been doing this job, particularly doing talent shows over the last 10 years, the No. 1 singer anyone ever wanted to emulate, if they really wanted to be a superstar, it was always Whitney,” Simon said. “We would hear Whitney songs over and over again. She was the benchmark, she truly was.”

The reality show boss said he was crushed by her death.

“You’re going to remember where you were when you heard the news. It’s that significant… I am absolutely devastated by this news,” he said. “I am so sad for her. She was [undoubtedly] one of the greatest superstars of all time, one of the greatest voices in our life time we’re likely ever to hear. To hear this news, it really, really, really upset me. It really has.”

When I was little I erroneously thought Whitney and Aretha were actually daughter and mother. lol I didn't know what "godmother" meant and it took until '93 to realize that she only had one mother and that was Cissy. I can't look at the video to "The Greatest Love of All" because Whitney is seen at the end of her performance rushing to her mother and hugging her. sad

I agree actually. It was just a caveat to put out there. Like I said, when you know someone just on first name terms that's how iconic. And no none of these artists need to prove their status.

I just turned on MTV and they played "Greatest Love Of All." then they immediately showed this fucking Teen Mom 2 show. Bastards!
