Black people:

we have a special place in the hearts and minds of the public consciousness because

anytime a poignant statement needs to be made about humanity overcoming our basest

instincts, that is, our innate selfishness, in order to address that quality found within

all of humanity that would seek to transcend the quotidian and mundane, you call upon

a Black gospel choir to re-iterate that it is love that is needed in the world today.

Black people make the world go 'round: even Madonna knows this.

Only the whole world. But I'm sure that's what she wanted. She's a bad girl. You'd be worried if she didn't do anything to piss off someone.

I guess the flipping was part of the show. I mean she flipped off in the video too.

I dont think the NFL producers would have approved it if they saw her do it in rehersals though. They're squeamish about just about everything since Janet/JT. But I actually dont think she did it with the intention of distracting attention away from Madonna, but more because thats what she does. It a part of her on-stage persona.

Change it one more time..

Damn, it's not like she's 83. She's 53 and she does Ashtanga yoga every damned day as well as horse-riding and gyrotonics...exercises derived from swimming, yoga, gymnastics, and tai chi. So she IS fitter than most women half her age. If her dancing wasn't up to par then I totally believe it was from the hamstring injury. I'm not even that much of a fan...never seen her live. Don't buy all her music. But lawd...can we give her some props like we do old ass 'moves like Jagger' or some other OLD male rocker?

I'm surprised no one noticed Madonna almost slipped & fell on the first song. She played it off good though. So for that mistake alone gets her a D+. The stage & graphics were good. But she can't dance no rhythm at all.

Prince still wins for not having to lip sync.No one can top Prince on musicianship & not lip syncing at all he owned that stage, he didn't need a bunch of graphics and special guest either. He did not slip and almost trip either in all that rain.

Sorry people...

PRINCE WILL ALWAYS BE THE NUMBER 1 HALFTIME SHOW IN HISTORY.

P.S I did like "Like a Prayer"(Because of Cee-lo who saved the lip syncing)was well done & her final exit....

I can't believe Sheila betrayed Prince saying that. What the hell happen with U 2?

Madonna’s Glittering Super Bowl Spectacle
Madonna packed some serious spectacle into her twelve-minute halftime show for Super Bowl XLVI. Ushered in on a golden chariot pulled by a phalanx of centurions, Madonna opened the set with her 1990 hit "Vogue," flanked by dancers dressed to match the set’s Roman-fantasia theme.

As "Vogue" segued into 2000’s "Music," break dancers dressed in white track suits took their place beside Madonna, along with a tightrope aerialist. After a brief interlude with LMFAO and a few bars of "Party Rock Anthem" and "Sexy and I Know It," the stage gave way to a troupe of cheerleader-dancers for Madonna’s brand-new single. "Give Me All Your Luvin’," from the forthcoming album MDNA, brought with it Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.

The high school sports theme continued as a drum corps marched onto the stage along with Cee Lo Green. The set veered briefly through "Open Your Heart" (reaching all the way back into 1986’s True Blue) and "Express Yourself" before settling into the opening chords of "Like A Prayer." A church choir dressed in black and white robes now took the stage to back Madonna and Cee Lo for the gospel-tinged 1989 anthem. In the final moment of the show, gold beams projected up into the sky as Madonna disappeared from the stage in a massive plume of smoke. The words "World Peace" appeared across the field in gold lights.

The Associated Press: M.I.A. flips bird during Super Bowl halftime show lol

For all the pomp and excess of Madonna's Super Bowl halftime show, it is likely to be a single extended middle finger by guest singer M.I.A. that is most remembered. The gesture, accompanied by a barely disguised expletive, came during a performance of Madonna's new single, "Give Me All Your Luvin.'" It was reminiscent of Janet Jackson's infamous "wardrobe malfunction" -- a surprise risque moment in front of tens of millions of unsuspecting viewers.

The brief exposure of Jackson's nipple during the 2004 halftime show raised a storm of controversy and put CBS in hot water with the Federal Communications Commission. The Super Bowl, shown on NBC this year, is routinely viewed by more than 100 million people, the biggest TV event of the year.

The screen briefly went blurred after the M.I.A. gesture in what seemed like a late attempt to cut out the camera shot. The NFL, which produces the annual halftime show, had no immediate comment.

Madonna positioned herself as the queen of a new generation of pop stars at the Super Bowl halftime show - complete with throne. Guests Cee Lo and dance rockers LMFAO also appeared.
Madonna seemed like Roman royalty when muscle-bound men carried her extravagant throne across the football field to the stage for her opening song, "Vogue."

The singing and dancing on that song was smartly choreographed, as Madonna moved more deliberately but still adroitly in moves that took into account that she's now in her 50s. She briefly appeared to stumble at one point while trying to make a step on the stage set, but recovered in time.

She let a tightrope walker make the more acrobatic moves during a performance of "Music."

Madonna carried gold pompons for a performance of her new single. Twitter was alight with questions about the vocals being lip synched or augmented by tapes, particularly during this song. At the end of her lines, M.I.A. appeared to sing "I don't give a (expletive)," although it was hard to hear clearly.

The best guest was clearly Cee Lo, who joined Madonna for the final song, "Like a Prayer." They were joined by a robed chorus in the show's most soaring performance. With a puff of white smoke, Madonna disappeared down a trap door in the stage, and lights on the field spelled out "World Peace."

The veteran star's vocals were not strong throughout, lending to the sense of distance during the spectacle.

Madonna Rocks Super Bowl Halftime Show
It's Madonna Louise Ciccone's world, we're just living in it. The pop icon took to the world's biggest stage to rock three-and-a-half older tracks and a playful new song during the Super Bowl halftime show.

Entering on a golden throne pushed by an army of dancing Roman gladiators, the 53-year-old singer started things off with her 1990 classic "Vogue." Around ten backup dancers kept the pace as she sauntered the scene in a head piece and black thigh-high boots.

Across the field flashed an impressive digital collage of Vogue magazines, in a nice touch of corporate scenery.

By the time "Music" revved up, she was down to four very acrobatic backup dancers on a bandstand. To the side of the stage -- playing the parts of "Hey Mr. DJ" -- were those party rocking dudes of LMFAO at which point "Music" began getting an infusion of the SoCal duo's biggest hits, "Party Rock Anthem" and "Sexy And I Know It."

Those with keen eyes may have noticed Madonna slipping a bit while she was atop the bandstand, but she quickly recovered with a smile.

Then came the new song "Give Me All Your Luvin.'" The track's two guest stars -- Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. -- made the trip to Indy and got wrapped up in the Rome/Cleopatra-esque concept. The cheerleader-themed track was a perfect pick for halftime show, no doubt.

M.I.A. may have caused a bit of controversy when at the end of her rapping bit, she flipped the bird at the camera while saying the lyrics, "I'mma say this once, yeah, I don't give a s--t."

As her new single wound down, a marching band made its way to center stage for a quick interlude of "Open Your Heart" with the big-voiced Cee-Lo adding soul. Backing tracks seemed to be dispatched of at this point and the two sang live until the end of the show, it appeared.

For the finale, Madonna pulled out all the stops with the perfectly picked "Like a Prayer." Her voice, strong and clear, was aided by Cee-Lo and a massive choir of backup singers in robes for the 1989 gem.

When the spectacle was over, the singer was released down an escape hatch of sorts and the words "World Peace" were blazoned across the field.

According to the AP, around 110 million people were expected to watch the Super Bowl this year.

It was Madonna's first time in the halftime spotlight for the Super Bowl and comes right as she debuts her single, "Give Me All Your Luvin.'" The track is off "M.D.N.A.," Madonna's 12th studio album and first for Interscope, which will be released March 26.

Before kickoff, country couple Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert sang a rousing version of "America the Beautiful" and Kelly Clarkson took on national anthem duties. It was a performance clear of mistakes, unlike last year when Christina Aguilera flubbed her lines.

Yeah, the Washington Post is already starting in and asking whether the FCC should fine NBC. If they did that'd be good news for M.I.A.'s career. People who still don't know her would instantly find out who she is.

I think Prince spoiled me when it comes to half-time shows.

Nobody has been good since his performance.

The Madonna show was visually pleasing but the singing was terrible. It's one thing to lip-synched but even the sound of the lip-synching was bad, it sounded low to me. I'm sorry but having Nikki Minaj, M.I.A and Cee-Lo was useless.

Madonna has a good catalog of music and I think she could have done a better job, singing live and choosing better songs.

Oh well, my Princey still rules cool

Again...the genius of Madonna. Ten bucks says it was a calculating move. It won't have any huge affect on her because she didn't personally do it. Plus a finger is trivial compared to a titty so once the media tries to throw a hissy-fit about it (and they will) the public is gonna think their really reaching.

And it'll inadvertently catapult M.I.A. to a level of fame she's yet to witness.

Madonna, you genius bitch. You win again.
