As with many of the songs on HIStory, Tabloid Junkie is MJ at his most honest and personal and is a song that I love. Musically it draws you in and the rapid fire verses set up the accusations while the irresistible hooks of the chorus lay out the facts.

MJ covers a whole range of reported stories from the JFK assasination, to Marilyn Monroe, to comments about himself, and allusions to Madonna. It's a song that wraps up gossip and tidbits in a way that has you looking deeper into the truth of the situation.

For me it is one of the better songs on the HIStory.

As that song came with no lyrics, for years I couldn't make out half the shit he was saying LOL.

I do like the song (hey I don't hate any of his later stuff really), but it's not one of my favs from the album. Even though it's more simplistic, I prefer "why you wanna trip on me", which is sorta of similar in subject matter, as the tune and production are alot more catchy to me. That and Teddy's chicken scratch guitar and general production is funky as hell LOL. I dig Mike's vocals in the verses too. Sorta like he is singing through grated teeth lol

I love the history album and Tabloid Junkie but you're right, you can't make out what he's saying lol

What made me appreciate it and other songs is when some fans made "background" mixes. You know how with some earphones, you can take the plug out halfway and hear the background vocals and instruments? That's what fans did in a way. Hearing certain songs like that made me like the album even more, especially hearing the harmony of the chorus on This Time Around

I like Why You Wanna Trip On Me....our tastes in music is very similar lol

I love Jam/Lewis, but "tabloid junkie", production wise, isn't that different to some of the stuff they did or could of done with Janet. Teddy's stuff with Mike in general was 2nd only to Quincy in my book.

"Why you wanna trip on me" has an absolute beast of an intro too. Paul Jackson Jr's electric guitar going head first into those hard as hell synth stabs. Pure heaven LOL.

Have you seen it? Is it good?

The reviews seem to be meh to it's ok.

From tumblr:

Just watched the David Gest MJ documentary. Nothing new. Some parts were SUPER tacky like using the 911 call at the beginning and claiming Michael was “asexual” as usual.
Also just as I suspected they COMPLETELY jumped over The Wiz and Michael’s time in New York. Don’t people realise what a big point this was in his life?!
Edit: I’ll send my dvd to whoever wants to watch it. It was such a waste of 25 dollars to me, LOL.
Blah.

Fan review:

Hi guys

I just finished watching the David Gest dock 'The Life of an Icon'. I kinda have mixed feelings about it. I don't think it was put together terribly well. The idea of focusing on how great a talent he was as a kid was great, but that side of the doco lasted the whole first hour and I was like "man when are they gonna get to Off the Wall and Thriller and Bad", and when it got to that period, it was just brushed over in about 5/10 minutes!, then next thing it jumped straight to the molestation charges!!! Come on man!! I'm trying to forget about all that stuff! I want to see a doco about how awesome he was as an entertainer and humanitarian, which is what I was hoping this would be. Granted you can't ignore the terrible things he had to endure in court and so on, but for that to be the sole focus of a lot of the documentary was a bit of a letdown, and didn't make me want to show this documentary to other people. I finished watching the documentary feeling very sad and frankly a bit depressed. That's not the way any of us want to remember Michael.

Anyway that's just my two cents. I am very appreciative that David Gest and others involved in the doco went out of their way to put Michael in a positive light, which I can safely say they did. Here's to hoping one day there will be an awesome doco or something that only focuses on his talent and love for others.

Interesting, thanks for posting these. I was just on Amazon.com looking at this DVD and there is this one super long review from a longtime MJ fan that gushes and raves and praises this DVD to the high heavens! lol You would think this is the best documentary in the entire history of documentaries the way they gushed over it lol. I was starting to wonder if it was a paid review, but Michael Jackson does have very passionate fans and this one was certainly very passionate about the documentary.

wink No I have never seen this except for a display at a local blockbuster video store. But this went against everything MJ once believed in as a JW. Personally I do feel that SPIRTISM is no joke. It's real and very DANGERUOS. Nobody, not even MJ should fool with it.

Here's to hoping that they listen. *fingers crossed*

the idea i sent them came in 2 formats

standard 2 disc set

and then a deluxe 6 disc set (4 CDs+2 DVDs)

and came with a art/photobook, replicas of the "World of Michael Jackson" newsletters, Bad Tourbook and a replica of a bad tour ticket

now that I think about, i should've included vinyl as the third format

I would be willing to shell out big money for that!

Yeah, I agree. I've already watched it and there's nothing new. Just the same old rubbish all over again. I wasn't impressed by anything and I also don't understand why everyone puts in Taraborrelli? Now, come on! The guy is not credible to me and why present him as some of his psychiatrist or something who knows everything about him. I did cry watching it, but not because it would have been so great, but simply because it just reminded me how much I missed him. Also notice how his TRUE friends never really go on to talk publically about Mike like that. I wish Mac Culkin would share some of his stories or Chris Tucker. I wish that someone would make a documentary, just about Mike, the person and tell us of the fun, everyday stories they've shared with him and exclude all the child allegations and plastic surgery crap. I could go even without his achievements, cause what new could they tell me about that? We all know about Thriller etc.

Pretty sure it would get massive hits.

It's going to be biased as hell but there are docs out there that cover all the eras that can be used for inspiration. I have an import one, possibly from Europe for example. Some of it had critical analysis, but it was all in all a good one.

Some fans put together a 10 part documentary. Piecing parts of various docs from the US and UK and added parts from fans' commentary, rare footage and put it on Youtube

I was telling Militant and Vanilli I'd like to do one similar to Tupac's "Resurrection" film with Michael narrating his own life via old interviews and tapes

I hate all the remixes on Blood on the dance floor , they are a mess and tend to destroy the original , even MJ himself didn't like them , contrary to evetyone's belief , MJ wasn't responisble for those remixes , he didn't like them !

The original of the song " History" is amazing , The remix is a Mess lol

What's stopping Spike from doing one now? Michael has as much of a storied life as Pac did and Michael had it for over 40 years, possibly 45. Great story for a documentary.

Maybe Spike wants to wait till the trial to do the documentary, that would make sense, I don't believe Tupac's came out immediatey either from what I recall, but it was really well done.

The best mixes on BOTDF are HIStory and Scream, the other two I like are Money and 2Bad, I skip the others. I find that Jam & Lewis productions often have amazing remixes (Janet's stuff) so I feel that's why I like them over the others. MJ's originals are the kind of songs you can't screw around with or else they don't sound MJ anymore, so I'm sure he felt something like that regarding the remixes. I collect a lot of them, but I don't really think they are all that cause the originals are so perfect, there are just a few more I like. I love a lot of Janet's mixes though.

^ 2Pac has like three documentaries. One was released in 2001 (the one I posted with Frank Alexander, 2Pac's former bodyguard), another (Thug Angel) that was released a year later in 2002 and finally Resurrection from 2003.

Michael has had none since his death yet except for David Gest's and his is not so promising to me.

The 2pac doc I saw was resurrection. It's only been 2 1/2 years, I want to give it some time and see what comes out in a few years. I am not buying the David Gest one though , I'm very upset they are focusing on the legal aspect. Even A&E gave a fair one, and this was before his death.

My book arrived today, I couldn't find it yesterday in stores so I ordered it online and it came in a day!

It's available in stores? I ordered it from B&N,and they said that there would be a delay in the shipment of it. I am seriously thinking of canceling my order through them, and ordering it from some where else.

There's 2 B&N stores near me. One about 30 minutes away and another one 45 minutes away but in the other direction. The closest one didn't have it (delay in shipping) but the other one had 2 copies but I wasn't sure if I wanted to pay $25. I called Walmart, Target, and an independent bookstore to no avail. FINALLY I went to the B&N that had it but one was on hold for someone and the other was on shelf....but someone seemed to have put it on a different shelf (probably so they could go back and buy it themselves) I kept looking on the shelf over and over to see I had missed it lol

So while I said "might as well order it online" and started to walk away, I caught a glimpse of it on the shelf (artbooks) which was next to the music book shelf and THERE IT WAS lol

Someone even put 2 gum wrappers in the book as a placeholder. Fuck them gum wrappers and fuck them lol
