But where have I heard that line "this is it," sung in the exact same way before? And I'm not talking about Safire's version. I've heard that line in another song, but I'm too consumed in this new release to remember right now. neutral

Michael Jackson song This It Is released online ahead of documentary

A SAMPLE of the new single, This is It, by Michael Jackson has been released online, featuring backing vocals by the late superstar's brothers.

Michael Jackson’s first posthumous release is surprisingly strong.

This Is It is a vintage Jackson ballad – not the best thing he’s ever done but certainly far from the worst.

It’s a simple melody - which suggests it may have been an unfinished demo knowing Jackson’s love of over production.

However the stark feel showcases his voice beautifully, and his brothers have now added backing vocals for its release, supplying some old-school Jackson 5 flashbacks.

If this is, as is rumoured, a leftover from the early `90s Dangerous era, it sounds very little like the dated swingbeat material on that record.

Whether this song would get the attention it’s going to get had he still been alive is debatable, but let’s hope the rest of the Jackson unreleased material sticks to this standard.

Rolling Stone reported that the song was recorded in 1991, during sessions for Jackson’s Dangerous album.

The track will run over the closing credits of the documentary, which features yet-to-be-seen footage of Jackson preparing for what would have been his final concerts.

The two disc soundtrack includes several of the King of Pop’s hits, including, Wanna Be Startin’ Something, Black or White and Smooth Criminal.

The second disc has early demo versions of She’s Out of My Life and Beat It.

Yeah, that's true. But I know I've heard that exact phrasing (meaning the artist sounds just like the way MJ says it) in some other song before. Not saying Michael copied anyone though. Just a coincidence. I usually remember stuff like this, but I'm in a trance right now listening to MJ. So if that memory comes back to me it may take awhile, lol.

Kenny Loggins had a popular hit called "This Is It"

Oddly enough, MJ was on the album the track appeared on. He did backing vocals on the song "Who's Right, Who's Wrong".

It's not a song I've ever listened to often, so I had to be reminded, lol. Sorry to bring up Prince. I honestly couldn't remember it was his song I was trying to recall at first. lol And I don't want to compare ANYTHING, just wanted to make sure my memory is correct, lol.

So was This Is It recorded during the Dangerous sessions? or was it the Off The Wall sessions? There are some that are saying that they feel that the Jackson Brothers had there vocals added to the backing vocals, and that the song originally wasn't with them singing back up.

So basically Sony were looking for an old song to release and chose that just because it says THIS IS IT in it?

Didn't he say he recorded 100s of songs for Invincible? Why not release one of them? At least it'd be more recent.

And it would have been a fantastic finale song each night too. I can imagine it vividly.

I found what he said. So it was recorded in 1980 for either the Destiny or Triumph albums, but wasn't used,so maybe this is the original recording, and that is why if brothers are on the backing vocals.

Exactly. Why would artists release old songs. That´s probably what Prince thinks as well. lol

I just heard it, it sounds like a 1980 demo with MJ's vocals.
