Kanye West blames MTV for Britney Spears' less than stellar performance at the Video Music Awards.

"Man, they were just trying to get ratings, and they knew she wasn't ready and they exploited her," the 29-year-old rapper said Tuesday on Sirius Satellite Radio's "The Morning Mash Up."

The network made a "bad move" by having the troubled pop star open Sunday's event in Las Vegas, said West, who feels he should have kicked off the show with "Stronger," the first single from his new album, "Graduation."

"They exploited her, they played me and I really don't mess with MTV," he said.

Spears, 25, looked unprepared while performing her new song, "Gimme More," to a bewildered audience of her music industry peers. She seemed nervous and, at times, stopped singing altogether.

West said he wanted to perform "Stronger" on the show's main stage — where R&B hotshot Chris Brown wowed the crowd with Michael Jackson-esque dance moves — but complied when he was asked to host a suite party.

West said it was a blow to the ego when Justin Timberlake, who also hosted a suite party, ended up "on the big stage" to give the closing performance with Timbaland and Nelly Furtado.

"Those are the big things, and you know what I do man, I really made the song `Stronger,' you know, for stadiums," he said.

MTV spokesman David French didn't immediately return a phone call from The Associated Press seeking comment.

West — who threw a tantrum backstage after losing all five categories for which he was nominated — said he has bonded with 50 Cent over what they view as disrespectful behavior from MTV.

"So why do you have me do `Stronger' in a suite, but you end the show with Justin?" he said. "I looked at 50 like, yo, we need to help each other as much as possible."

50 Cent has said he'd stop making solo records if West's new album outsells his "Curtis" CD in their first week out. Both albums were released Tuesday.

I think it's a fair concept to discuss. Do you have any teenage girls? I will in about a year. She is already starting to worry about her image, and it's unhealthy to me for people to perpetuate the myth that anything over a size 6 is fat.

Normally, I'd be reveling in the fall from grace of someone who exploited some aspect of their personality for fame and fortune only to be done in by it later (Paris Hilton, Keven Federline, Republican "family values" anit-gay senators who get caught with hookers or busted for soliciting gay sex), but what's happening to Britney has gone beyond amusing and has become really disturbing. She's obviously shutting out the people in her life who care the most about her, and she doesn't give a crap about her fans; I suspect she doesn't give a damn about anyone else right now because she doesn't give a damn about herself. She's on a very self-destructive path that's looking more and more like Anna Nicole Smith's final days. If she were just a strung-out divorcee without any attachments, it would just be sad, but she has two children that are being seriously affected by her behavior. What worries me is that she may sink so low that she may decide to end it all but take her two kids with her.

And as far as Britney being surrounded by a bunch of ass-kissing sycophants, she has done a lot of this by design. A number of people who have worked with Britney in the past who have seen her spiraling out of control have tried to step in and save her from herself, but she has either fired them or forced them to quit in exasperation because she refuses to confront her issues.

Well, actually I'm referring to those sycophants who helped enable and facilitate this particular performance. But there have been others in the past who just turned a blind eye to her behavior or joined-in on it--humoring her, so even her past "posse" isn't as innocent as it might appear--well that's the gossip anyway.

I'm just suggesting the girl--when she gets more serious personal problems and issues in order--might consider hiring established professionals to help her with any future comeback rather than those trying to make a name for themselves, who really don't have the "balls" to call her on her shit. I even think somebody like Wade Robson--just coming off winning an EMmy might even be a good choice. Wade doesn't have to put up with her shit anymore, so if she's not serious about a comeback, then he could just walk. I know they allegedly have a "history," so he's probably not the one, but I really think it would benefit her to have somebody tell her... NO--or SOMEBODY to say.. lady if you're not serious, then why bother?

That said, out of them all, MTV was really the "adult" in this situation, and had the power to cut-her if she wasn't prepared. But I guess since now it's more in the "reality show" genre, even a trainwrecked Britney was better than no Britney at all--for them at least. I mean how would it have cost MTV to just say, "Britney was simply not prepared to perform," even if execs had to "out" her on her partying? Sure she would have still been embarrassed, but at least MTV would have been the adult, ya know?

But nooooo then MTV knew she was going to be a trainwreck.. It had to, and still let her make an ass of herself for what... ratings?
