Save that you and ehuffnsd aren't even talking about anything relevant to Britney Spears' performance -- you basically are trying to turn the thread into a dissertation on the psychological effects of young girls hearing several people in the media describe Spears as "fat" and "out of shape."

Anyone with eyes and even a small level of intelligence knows that the majority of Britney's appeal is her image. Her image has taken precendence over her talent since her first album, so I agree with Najee. Anyone who tries to make this a pshycological discussion is mental themselves. She's been selling a sexy image to young girls for over 8 years now, so she should be smart enough to make sure that her body is on-point is she decides to wear something that revealing. I've never been a Britney supporter, but I have no problem saying that many of her past performances were really good. That "Slave for You" performance was her best to date and her body was toned, not anorexic; yet she seemed more covered during that performance than this one. She made her sexy image...or maybe her old management helped, who knows; but place the blame of our society of girls with low-self esteem and poor body image on the right sources and one of those sources is Britney. Unfortunately, Britney's image overshadowed what little talent she had a long time ago.

And the parents!! If they're letting their little girls get life lessons from that no panties wearing train wreck then someone calling her fat is going to be the least of their troubles!

I agree with you totally! This is why I have so little sympathy for this girl on a professional level. I'm not a TOTAL bitch...I mean I hope she gets herself together for her kids sake. They deserve better than what they're getting right now! Her success was never based on real talent, so she should just call it a day and go home and be a mom!

Now take someone like Whitney Houston! I know, she is not a fovorite among some on this org. but I feel sorry for her because she has/had legitamate talent and it has all but been "smoked" away in her crack pipe! If Whitney Houston made a real attempt to clean her ass up and got on one of these shows and threw down, the public would eat it up!

Hey im all with you on the whitney thing, but lets look a few years back when Whitney performed and looked very very thin, all i heard next day was about her "look" and this is someone who SINGS, i heard nothing about her performance.

That was because there was only speculation that she was a crack head. She was even in denial about it! (Remember that Barbara Walters interview). She was denying it, but her appearance was saying otherwise so thats all people could focus on. Now...it's common knowledge...she's a straight up crack head!

[Edited 9/10/07 16:17pm]

The first step is to no longer be in denial. You also said she had an unfit body. That's more than commenting on a poor wardrobe choice and that's why some people are responding to your comments specifically.

Get passed that first step and then we can move onto step two.

I'll light a candle for you tonight. pray

But keep them posts a comin' cuz like I said....the more you post the more you are actually showing everyone that this is a topic you really do care about.

can you not see the connection between media's ideals of beauty and eating disorders?

if a girl saw the picture of Britney had the same body, which according to some on here would be hot if was any other girl but Britney Spears who is a famous singer would be hot, saw people in the media calling her fat or jiggly and than deciding she needed to starve herself or stuff a finger down her throat or take pills.

Is that the responsibility of the media to shelter people's children. I would hope that there would open communication between the hypothetical girl and her hypothetical parents. Parents should raise their children with their morals and values and not allow the media to do it.

I wouldn't give ehuffnsd and lastdecember the pleasure of answering them, because that's what they want to do -- namely, divert the thread by trolling and talking about everything except Britney Spears' performance.

how many teens have honest and open discussions with their parents?

and yes as a society we need to take a look at how our ideal of beauty is affecting people.

why do you think certain cities are now placing bans on what type of models can be used in runway shows.

The second pic is a split second of a dance move caught in a photo. Her back is arched and her stomach is pushed out and ya she has a small roll on her back from the arch...wow, big whoop!

That is not out of shape, even skinny mofos can get their stomachs to stick out like that.

Hilarious. Her body is still better than 99.9% of north american's bodies.

I am by no means a Brittany fan, not that there is anything wrong with that.
I thought her dancing skills lastnight were pathetic, and she can not even lip sync well. After that, I will say...she has a beautiful face though. She just needs to get her act together and a better hair weave wouldn't hurt. rolleyes

I agree..it's dangerous to say Britney is fat because she's not fat. And even if she were, it's really beside the point. It was really more her overall performance was not good, and she didn't even sing or dance. She just stood there for the most part.

In regard to her appearance, I would just say her costume looked one size too small. If she wanted to wear a two-piece, it may have looked better if it had fit her better.

Anyway.. apparently MTV got a boost in ratings due to her performance? I read that somewhere. So I guess execs got what it paid for--buzz at Britney's expense. For me, it's just so sad to see somebody being taken advantage of due to their circumstances whether they be emotional, financial, personal..professional--whatever. But I guess it's par for the course.

Very true and we cant forget that marvelous thread about Jon Norris coming out of the closet, or Alica Keys being gay because she sang a George Michael song, this forum should be renamed to double standards.

Yeah, but 99.9% of Americans can't afford personal trainers, personal chefs, and personal stylists (or plastic surgery). Sorry, but celebrities should always be in shape because they rely on their images to sell their products...shit, they ain't doctors or lawyers. It's not like they have to be geniuses to make a living. The entertainment industry is 80% image and 20% talent, sometimes talent outnumbers the image...sometimes.. I don't like it or agree with it, but I'm not in the entertainment business so, tough cookies for all those people...they get millions of dollars for their heartache rolleyes; they'll be alright. She has no reason to be this untoned if she has been dancing. I see soo many pics of her going to dance classes. What is she doing in there...Drinking? That's a beer-gut right there. She was more toned when she did those mini concerts than in this pic. I don't really care that the girl is out-of-shape, but why would she wear this outfit? It's not flattering at all, plus, it's really nothing new. If she had walked out wearing a suit and her real hair and stopped this fake bullshit, I would have given her kudos, but she's doing the same ole, same ole. Nobody likes to watch a aging pop star who does the same routine over and over...that's why Madonna, Prince, and MJ have re-invented themselves soo many times. Britney has been doing the same trashy image since she came out 8 years ago. It just gets worse ever year. It's boring and sad that she's settling for this. Just soo all these people don't think I'm just picking on Britney's poor outfit choice and need for some crunches, I'll say that I thought Beyonce looked a little out of shape as did Alicia Keys, while all the guys, ie Timbaland, Dr. Dre, etc all looked pretty toned. I guess it's a role reversal, which if fine by me....let the guys deal will self-image for a while so the ladies can take a brake. Anyway, sorry, but she was wrong for this outfit...she could have been a size 0 and I would say the same thing...she needs to grow out of this phase and learn that wearing clothes can be just as fun as being half-naked. biggrin

Ok then wipe out the Beyonce "Latina" thread and the ALicia Keys "gay thread" or the Jon Norris thread (why is he even listed in Music) i mean come on already. And Kanye's thread about not winning an award and boycotting the award show, how is that even about "music"?

[Edited 9/10/07 19:52pm]

But many times, it's the celebrities who think they are different from everyone else. A friend of mine met Shaq and he wanted her to let him in after hours because she worked at Ripley's Believe It or Not, He felt that because he was a celebrity, that she would do it. She told him, "No, sorry, but we're closed for the night." He had no consideration for her and maybe she wanted to go home after a long days work. He even used the "Don't you know who I am" line on her. Unfortunately, it's celebrities who distance themselves from non-celebrities 9 times out of 10. That's not all celebrities, but I think a majority of these people wouldn't eat off my table because I don't have $500 plates and $300 silverware, which is fine by me, because most of them come and go like newspapers anyway. Plus, I have seen many girls walking in the mall wearing stuff like this and I feel the exact same way about them. It's not attractive to look like you sell it on the corner for $50 a pop, unless they do; in which case, do what cha do shrug. Trust me, I know they are normal people, so when they get caught doing dirt and get off, that makes me even more pissed, because they are just normal people who happen to have money and fame. Celebrities rely on their fans to make them rich and famous, so they technically owe it to those fans to give them a good show...especially since it is what they do for a living. I expect my doctor to give me the best care; why shouldn't I expect a celebrity who I have finanically supported to give me the best show? That's what they get paid to do. But, that's just my twocents on the matter.

Why are you dragging in another topic that has nothing to do with her performance bombing??

If you want to discuss "eating disorders", why don't you start a topic about that in GD.

Please, let's stay on topic confused

Ok then wipe out the Beyonce "Latina" thread and the ALicia Keys "gay thread" or the Jon Norris thread (why is he even listed in Music) i mean come on already. And Kanye's thread about not winning an award and boycotting the award show, how is that even about "music"?

or the 4 threads about Michael's image complext that will appear this week

or the 5 threads about Michael's financial problems that will appear this week
You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

Good point. Why are these threads never moved to General Discussion? They have nothing to do with music.
