BS

her outfits shouldn't have to change on stage simply because she is a mother of two kids.

that's some patriarcial bullsh*t if i've ever heard it.

she's a performer, an entertainer she is supposed to make us suspend disbelief.

Fuck all of that.

I'm damn near forty with taut skin and a size 3-5, which (ridiculouly) is considered large by my work environment standards (but fuck them too lol ). I work with models every day that have pushed out babies in between being shot for any number of editorials and advertisements meant to subliminally seduce us into believing what looks appropriate or not appropriate on people. So the "mommies shouldn't wear such things" argument doesn't wash with me. That being said, what DOES wash with me is the idea that if you know your gut is hanging out over your draws for the whole world to see on national television you should've (or your stylist should've ) had enough sense to know that the outfit wouldn't work. And if it was a good (as in ethical) stylist not soley interested in the noteriety and checks that come with working with a client like spears 1. They should have had a back-up alternative in the same fabric and color (as to not fuck up the light/tech dude), but in a cut MORE FLATTERING to Spears' post birth figure. Then 2. Had she not complied with the suggestion that she move to the alternatively flattering outfit you have to be prepared to WALK OFF SET, period (it's called playing manipulative poker with your client to save your face amongst your fashion industry peers, folks).

The event being what it was, I completely understand why that outfit was initially chosen. It's MTV and she's ONLY 25, for gawd's sakes. Sex sells, keep it skimpy, it's hot as hell under the stage lights, blase, blase. But the outfit, in my view was only inappropriate as it was ill fitting. I lay the blame squarely on the singer for an inability to change, and secondly the stylist for not having a 2nd and 3rd alternative just in case she showed up bloated or WHATEVER. It's a universally understood part of the job description wink

I agree that the outfit was ill fitting. The shorts were too short. However, I object to people saying she's a mother of two blah blah blah. Shes 25 on MTV and known for her barely there outfits. It's her job.

but did madonna (also a mother of 2) ever wear an outfit that gave folks an "ouch" moment?

i just think keeping the subject on her weight (which nobody here is doing) is a way for folks to defend brit...its the overall package that most folks are shocked about...not just the outfit...not just the lack of lipsynching...not just the lack of enthusiasm...not just the sarah silverman jokes...it was brit's entire package thats FUBAR'd.

i'm not defending the poor performance of Britney.

it's the comments of people calling her fat and/or justifiying it with well she's famous she should be thinner.

it's not healthy

oh and about Madge the whole leotard phase was not a crowd favorite.

OK, I've been pleased to see that you initally agreed with me, but you are male, and therefore, could never understand what happens with pregnancy and childbirth. Having a child STRETCHES YOUR SHIT OUT, most times irreversibly. Having two back to back is traumatic on the skeletal structure, the abdominal core, and the skin. Didn't she also have a C-section? I can tell you from personal experience that no matter what you do as far as post childbirth exercise with a C-section, that shit will NEVER BE THE SAME. The muscles have been cut, and they do not always heal correctly. This does make a difference.

I just don't see why she needs to justify what she's wearing because people have been misled about body standards. If anything, I think she should be embraced for showing her realistic body to the world.

I am still trying to figure out who on this board called her fat.

Every outfit ain't made for every "BODY". Just because you're small doesn't mean you can get away with wearing anything. I don't care if Britney is only a size 2, she had no business prancing around with her unfit body exposed to the world. I would rather see someone that's a size 10/12 that's fit, with abs to die for, before I see someone one smaller and unfit.

I just think everyone was expecting something from someone that never did much anyway. Alot of critcism comes from people who hate her anyway adn think she has no talent at all. Was i shocked? not at all, i have been seeing this girl run around like this for over a year now, be it shaving her head, or crashing a car or smoking or giving a finger.Im not making excuses, though i think there is blame to go all around from MTV to others, but im not surprised at what i saw, people are making it like it even was a big deal. But once again like Madonna or Janet or Michael she got people talking about her nonstop and in these days of media, computers are crashing because of all the Britney buzz. So good or bad press, excuse or not, she did it once again.

You know what, I am guilty of throwing these wise cracks out about Britney just as much as the next person, but I think you might be missing the REAL jest of what most of the post are about. Britney is NOT the same chick she was 5 years ago partly because she has had kids and partly because she has been living an unhealthy lifestyle. Therefore her body is different...and therefore she has to dress accordingly to enhance the body she has. There is NOTHING wrong with her body! A lot of people has a problem with what she was wearing with that NEW body!

Beautiful women come in ALL shapes and sizes. U didn't hear people talking about Jennifer Hudson! She's a big girl, but looked GOOD! Alicia Keys has some hips on her, but she looked classy! Mary J Blidge is a thick sista, but she still showed class also!

Bottom line is that Britney tried to recapture her teeny-bopper days with that tired routine and skimpy outfit, and it didn't fly at all!

The bottom line is there is power in words. calling someone who fat who clearly isn't by any standard, is telling young girls out there they are fat if they don't fit the impossible ideal.

bag on her for her lack of lypsynching, or that she is a mess who was totally out of it for the entire performace. She was an empty shell of her former self. however she isn't fat, and the media is blowing making a deal about her weight.

and we wonder why young women's suicde or have bulima or other disorders.

You're saying that she had no right to show her body to the world. I am saying the same thing for ugly people.

You don't wanna see her "unfit body", I don't wanna see some smashface walking around.

Exactly. Its everywhere, look heres the deal Britney looked very much the same on the In the Zone tour, im sure we remember shots of her on the bed in lingerie all over a male dancer and people were saying how can she be such a slut like that, and yet Akon can throw a girl all over the stage and its part of a dance, or R kelly can urinate on them and its "well she asked for it". Look im not saying that performance was anything, but i wasnt expecting anythinb but what she normally did and thats what i got, the only thing that looked off was the routine, it seemed like it was just rehearsed about 5 minutes before the show. As for the oufit well, it didnt bother me, though im more concerned with her state of mind, and who knows what was running through her head at the show. And just like other ladies in the industry sometimes they look sexy to me and sometimes not, we can all disagree about that day and night. As for last night i thought Britney looked sexy, as she has looked before. Does she look different, of course, I mean its almost 4 years since In The zone, and then just think of everything in the meantime that happend to her.

Does she look different, of course, I mean its almost 4 years since In The zone, and then just think of everything in the meantime that happend to her.

yup, though i don't know what's worse seeing it written the first time or having people blindly say there aren't any comments about her weight?

look it lil ray charles aint nobody calling her fat...you best re-read the same sh*t you posted because brit isnt fit, does have a tummy and did have a giggle...does that mean she is fat or obese? nope..

and lord knows where justinerin is coming from with all that she posted...

its as if folks are lashing out all their pint up societal frustrations on this thread and the folks who are being rightfully critical of ole brit's major f*ck up.

lol

As mod on this forum is name calling something you should be doing?

yes it was bad performance and should have been thought out better i will not disagree with you.

However the comments about her weight are part of a larger problem.

just like a friend of mine was writing a column of the last cycle of celebrity fit club, and he was calling them all heifers and all kinds of things. when i saw who was on it non of them were fat, they were normal sized.

he ended up going back and changing it before it was printed because he saw that they weren't really that fat.

she couldn't lypsync or dance and her clothes didn't fit, but she wasn't fat.

To be completely honest with you...I have NO sympathy for your girl Britney. I mean, you guys are getting all upset because people are implying (in your opinion) that she is fat. Well, her entire career has been based on her image! Just about every video she has ever made she wears as little as possible! She simulated sex in her dance routines! SEX SEX SEX is what she has been selling to her fans all this time!

I'm no prude! However you want to express yourself as an artist,,go for it. But when sex is ALL you have to offer as an artist then you better be ready to get blasted as soon as you start to fall off or lose your looks.

Yeah, these comments are harsh, but if your girl Britney had more to offer talent wise then I would cut her some slack. If she got up there and belted out a song vocally with her gut showing I would be like "You GO girl!!!" She cant deliver on that level so I can't feel sorry for her! She needs to walk away and try to be a good mom to those boys!
