How many posts have you had in this thread?

Keep making those posts. I think you're well on your way to caring.

You left me hanging on the highfive. sad

Britney's outfit has yet to cause me to jump leaps and bounds making assumptions about people when they make unfavorable comments about Britney. Show me how to get to where you are.
[Edited 9/10/07 16:17pm]

The first step is to no longer be in denial. You also said she had an unfit body. That's more than commenting on a poor wardrobe choice and that's why some people are responding to your comments specifically.

Get passed that first step and then we can move onto step two.

I'll light a candle for you tonight. pray

But keep them posts a comin' cuz like I said....the more you post the more you are actually showing everyone that this is a topic you really do care about.

I didn't say Janet Jackson's first two albums were multi-platinum sellers, but they each made the top 20 of the Billboard R&B albums charts. The 1982 self-titled album peaked at No. 6 and 1984's "Dream Street" peaked at No. 19.

The first album produced three top 20 singles on the Billboard R&B Singles charts -- "Young Love" (No. 6), "Come Give Your Love to Me" (No. 17) and "Say You Do" (No. 15). "Don't Stand Another Chance" (No. 9) came from "Dream Street."

It's fair to say that Jackson's first two albums were modest to moderate successes -- it's the revision of assessing her career in terms of pop (not soul music) success that call those albums less than successful.

You make a good point about the moderate successes of her first two albums in terms of R&B music geared more to black than white audiences.

I think Janet Jackson is also responsible for the revision in the assessment of her career. She called her last album 20 Y.O. -- 20 years since Control. It is not often she acknowledges her first two albums.

No you're not -- you're interested in diverting the attention from the very obvious revelation that without any smoke and mirrors Britney Spears is a marginally talented recording artist. THAT'S VON MARIE'S STANCE (AND MINE).

i've nver denied anything about her talent.

No sweetie, I want to be just like you. If only I had the heart to care about what people say about brit-brit's jiggly belly and poor outfit choice. sad

can you not see the connection between media's ideals of beauty and eating disorders?

if a girl saw the picture of Britney had the same body, which according to some on here would be hot if was any other girl but Britney Spears who is a famous singer would be hot, saw people in the media calling her fat or jiggly and than deciding she needed to starve herself or stuff a finger down her throat or take pills.

You're not understanding my point -- this issue about Britney Spears' weight (and other peripheral tangents associated with it) are things you're introducing into the conversation. Most people aren't even making an issue of whether she's fat or not, much less trying to turn into some other topical issue that isn't crucial to the discussion.

You're on a music entertainment Web site. Discussions about Spears' appearance have been in context with her poor musical performance. You're trying to speak from a soapbox that doesn't apply in scope or context.

If you want to have a discussion on the effect of calling someone the size of Spears "fat" and how teen-age girls feel about it, go to a Web site that deals with that issue specifically. What you're talking about is not even relevant to the discussion at hand.

You know what, you are absolutly right in reference to the weight thing! Good point. Let me ask you this, don't you think that shitty ass out fit she was wearing was very unflattering on her? Just because it worked for her in the past doesn't mean she can still pull it off now! Just because she was able to squeeze into that outfit doesn't mean that she SHOULD have. She looked bad, and not because of any weight issue!

I don't know...this chick has always been a thorn in my side ever since she came onto the music sceen because she's made millions off of music with no substance when lagitamate artists barely get any mention in the media! Honestly, I wish she and other artists (sorry, entertainers)like her would go away!

yes we all can agree that outfit was illfitting.

Yeah to a certain degree it wasnt the best idea for an outfit if we can even call it and outfit. Britney is far from being my ideal HOT lady (i'll post a list), she does alot of things that make her unattractive to me, and none of them have to do with a questionable outfit, because alot of time Britney can be very Sexy to me. But one thing i find Sexy for any woman is the ability to be comfotable in their own skin, I have more respect for Britney for just walking out there like it is, then someone dropping 30 pounds to fit into "Hollywood" which is what Jessica Simpson has done now and to me she had one of the best bodies and i know alot of women constantly do this and this is more why any comment about her "weight" or "fit" bothers me, because i have seen it used too much on Female celebs in the past.

The pre-"Control" Janet Jackson had the similar success of 1980s soul singer (and Org favorite) O'Bryan -- a few Top 20 singles and a couple of albums that hit the top 20 of the Billboard R&B albums chart. For that matter, her early success was more than comparable to her older sister Rebbie's.

I also would say that the assessment of Janet's first two albums is also based on the comparisons to her famous brothers' success, collectively and individually (mostly Michael and Jermaine).

I dont think thats all its about, the performance sucked case closed, the reason that the debate rages on is that everywhere in the media, here and all over, her "fitness" has been called into play, i dont think anyone ever said the performance was good, or close to being good, and guess what they all sucked last nite except for Ms. Keys, and from the posts on her i have seen everyones issue is that she did a George Michael song "because shes gay" how is that a musical conversation?

I don't see the debate about her fitness. She isn't out of shape by average standards. She is, however, out of shape for someone expected to do a performance like this, and moreover, do it well.

I have to give much respect to all of Britney's fans. Anyone who can stick up for that child deserves some praise. I salute all you Brit fans for your unfaltering love for this poor soul. worship From awful extensions (the first thing I saw), to fake blue contacts to go with her fake hair, I had to laugh. I thought that was the worst of it. Then, she opened her mouth and the oh-so-famous Britney "talent of lip-syncing badly" happened, except it was worse than ever before. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, the cameraman was ooh soo nice to pan down to 'THAT OUTFIT'. OH, HELLS NO!!!!! disbelief Why?!?! Don't get me wrong, she looks good after having two kids, but she doesn't look good enough to be wearing that. Why didn't she have her colony of backup dancers (there had to be at least 10 that I could count) be half dressed too? They were all fully clothed, or maybe it just seemed like that because of the excessive nakedness of Britney. Maybe if they had all been scantily clad like Brit, it would have shielded her embarrassing new look and made the performance less painful to watch. I'm not even going to go into all that was wrong with that performance...shit, what was right would probably be easier to say...Nothing...Nothing was right about that garbage. I watched that performance with my friend and all we could do was this: eek . In fact the only thing that was worse than Britney's performance was Miss Teen USA's stupid joke (it was a joke right???). It was sad and completely awful. I wasn't expecting it to be good, but I wasn't expecting it to be horrendous either. It was like watching a terrible car accident. All you can do is just stare and hope that everyone involved is okay. I don't think Sarah Silverman said anything but the truth. All these people saying that she was nervous... confused Nervous? That girl just took one too many trips to the bar before going on stage. Nobody stumbles that much if they're nervous, especially someone who has been performing since they were 8 years old....that was straight-up shit-faced right there (from either lots of booze or loads of drugs..pick one; or both for that matter). People can lie to themselves all they want to..Nervous my ass falloff She just seemed like she would have much rathered be throwing back some drinks at the bar than be performing for her adoring fans. Plus, didn't she just do a mini tour a couple months ago? You remember the one that her loving fans shelled out more than $125 per ticket to see her lip-sync old tunes at? I'm sorry, but I have to diss her for this half-assed shit. She's done 100 times better in the past. Justin performed the entire night with a sinus infection, Chris Brown threw down, Alicia Keys did her thing, Rhianna should have swapped her outfit with Brit's because it was a lot more classy, the Foo Fighters rocked hard as did Linkin Park and Fall Out Boy, and Timbaland was working his ass off. They all showed more talent in their shoelaces than Britney did in her entire, bloated frame. Why did she wear that? Why did she do that? Who told that girl that she looked good in that nonsense? She looked like a cheap stripper, except she makes over $700,000 a month...so she's just an over-paid stripper now. She looked like a HOT MESS! period. Anyone who doesn't know what "Hot Mess" means, just look at pics of Britney in that performance and there's your definition. I could forgive her if I knew she was tired from taking care of her babies, but from several news reports that I've heard and read today, the girl has been partying hard since Friday night. I'm sorry, but she needs harsh words and Sarah Silverman gave them too her and now, so am I. In fact, the only comment that Sarah made that was too far was the "cutest little mistakes" comment, but sadly, Britney seems to be treating her babies more like little burdens than the precious gifts that they are at the moment. She should have rested up for that performance and put more than 30 minutes worth of thought and work into it, but hey, the song sounds like it only took 30 minutes for her to record, so I guess the performance was ample enough. Point blank, it was unprofessional, ridiculous, and revolting because she's just pissing away her career. She's worked harder than many to get to where she is and now she's just fucking it all up because she's pissed at everyone who has supported her through the years; and can't admit that most of the trouble that she's in with her life at the moment is her own damn fault. All this performance proved to me was how much of a puppet she really is. Once the puppet masters have been dismissed by the over-confident puppet, who will be there to master the strings? When she was with her past management, her career was on point, but the moment she gets rid of them and tries to think and make her own decisions, she fails miserably. I guess some puppets will never be able to stand on their own without someone to guide them. Just my twocents

I still dont know what everyone was expecting from her? I mean to me there cant be a VALID musical discussion on anyone that lipsynchs and doesnt play. So that goes for everyone that gets up there and does a dance routine and nothing else, and there are many that fall into that category. I have more issue with making an excuse that dancing gets you out of live singing, especially since i have not seen a dance routine in a long time that actually warranted it.

Wow. I've never once been a fan of Britney. I don't own any of her music, in spite of being the proud pop whore that I am. I have often bashed her in the past, but this performance was... sad. Britney was in a haze and completely mailed in a performance that could have given America, who loves nothing more than a riches to rags to riches story, a reason to cheer. Hell, I like the song! I can only say the same for about 2 other Britney songs. She had a real opportunity here and wasn't up for the task. It came off looking more like a drunken karaoke parody at 3AM than a highly antipicated performance of a once-phenom trying to reclaim her pop throne after 4 years.

The girl needs help, plain and simple. A real soul-searching reassessment of her priorities could do her some real good. I don't think she's ready for a comeback.

But we can roll out a million shit performances like this, how can anyone say that getting up there and Lipsynching is a Musical Performance, and that goes for Britney and Madonna and janet and Michael and tons of others that have done it lately like Ne-Yo and Rihanna and Chris Brown.

And you could take your dissertation to another Web site where it's actually relevant. There are several sites discussing body images and teen-age girls, so you and ehuffnsd are hijacking the thread with stuff that (while pertinent overall) is IRRELEVANT TO THIS CONVERSATION.

You're not talking remotely about Britney Spears' performance -- what part of that are you not understanding? Moreover, you're deflecting nearly any conversation about Spears away from the original intent.

Anyone with eyes and even a small level of intelligence knows that the majority of Britney's appeal is her image. Her image has taken precendence over her talent since her first album, so I agree with Najee. Anyone who tries to make this a pshycological discussion is mental themselves. She's been selling a sexy image to young girls for over 8 years now, so she should be smart enough to make sure that her body is on-point is she decides to wear something that revealing. I've never been a Britney supporter, but I have no problem saying that many of her past performances were really good. That "Slave for You" performance was her best to date and her body was toned, not anorexic; yet she seemed more covered during that performance than this one. She made her sexy image...or maybe her old management helped, who knows; but place the blame of our society of girls with low-self esteem and poor body image on the right sources and one of those sources is Britney. Unfortunately, Britney's image overshadowed what little talent she had a long time ago.

wait, you seriously can't be comparing britney's performance to any of the above mentioned artists are you? if you want to compare brits performance please at least put her in a proper category...ie, the first couple episodes of each season of American Idol because that's about on par with what she gave folks last night...

seriously, you really believe her craptastic performance is par for the course? are you even reading what you are typing? lol

I agree with you totally! This is why I have so little sympathy for this girl on a professional level. I'm not a TOTAL bitch...I mean I hope she gets herself together for her kids sake. They deserve better than what they're getting right now! Her success was never based on real talent, so she should just call it a day and go home and be a mom!

Now take someone like Whitney Houston! I know, she is not a fovorite among some on this org. but I feel sorry for her because she has/had legitamate talent and it has all but been "smoked" away in her crack pipe! If Whitney Houston made a real attempt to clean her ass up and got on one of these shows and threw down, the public would eat it up!

HELLO there is nothing musical to talk about, the performance sucked, thats was cleared up long ago, looks and fitness were brought up POST number 1 of this thread basically, thats the point.

Whatever, but if you look back its all about Image in this thread, and my first post about her WAS all about the routine and not about her look. Her look was only defended because it needed to be, because it was constantly brought up, which it always is with a female performer EVEN IF SHE HAS TALENT as a singer, its always about her outfit or body shape, so dont proclaim that this is the first ever thread that wasnt about someones music, i mean there are plenty of Janet,Beyonce,Madonna,Alicia threads that talk nothing about music, so jump off that. And NO im not female but they need some defense, but the industry cant have it both ways, complain about someones looks but then use their looks to sell and fill corporate wallets.

I agree -- I can't feel sorry for some washed-up, no-tap-talent pop star who generates $750,000 per month in revenue. If Britney Spears can't get her act together with her trappings, THEN IT'S NOT MY PERSONAL PROBLEM. There's a suggestion box out front where she can file a complaint.
THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

Hey im all with you on the whitney thing, but lets look a few years back when Whitney performed and looked very very thin, all i heard next day was about her "look" and this is someone who SINGS, i heard nothing about her performance.

That's not the point -- no one is saying talking about body images is not relevant, JUST THAT IT'S NOT RELEVANT TO THIS CONVERSATION. If anything, some Britney Spears defenders are using it as a way to divert from the original conversation.

How about a good, no great performance? Granted I wanted her to fail, but I would have been ready to eat crow, but she saved me from that. evillol
