Well after that diabical on MTV, Britney is fucked. MTV is done with her for sure, so now she is in the same boat as Janet. Won't matter what the song sounds like if MTV tells you to fuck off, and if Janet's Superboob tells you anything, MTV is happy to throw female pop stars under the bus when it suits them.

That being said, I do wish Janet would go back to dance pop (BTW, DJ had plenty of dance pop, it just never got recieved well because of Superboob in America...not sure what happened in Europe). Until she does, I don't see her having another hit record...however, I think when she finally gets it, the audience will be there. She won't have "janet." or "Control" numbers....maybe close to COADF, though.

I doubt she will sell 10 million albums like Madonna. Janet has never been as popular as Madonna. She is for the most part a US and Japan act, like Mariah.

But again, she needs to go back to dance pop. She needs to reconnect with her dance audience again.

I kept forgetting it was that many copies. 3 million here, maybe 2 or 3 outside of America isn't unattainable, I don't think. Janet gets back to business, truly puts the MTV thing behind her (frankly, I wouldn't be shocked if there is a real big MTV backlash after this...sounds like a terrible thing happened and I'm not just talking about Britney) and finds some new way to connect to the audience, she'll do fine.

BTW, I agree that Janet's "lead" singles were not great choices. But consider the real lead for DJ was "Just A Little While". Not awful and not straight R&B, either.

Well, I broke my MTV boycott to watch Britney’s performance. I was shocked, saddened.. First, I'm not a Britney fan, but I never thought it would be as bad. People in her camp should have NEVER let her get on stage. They should have never, EVER pitched the idea to her. She's out of shape..unfocused. I don't care if they did have to change it at at the last minute. She's a pro.. If she couldn't adjust, then she should have said so "Thanks," but "No thanks," and walked. I don't know who is advising her--if anybody--but they allowed MTV to use her and themselves in a way. MTV execs are parasites, period. Britney should have never friggin performed OBVIOUSLY. May MTV crash and burn. But, some might go down with it.

Like Michael in a way(and even Janet to a lesser extent), Britney seems to be surrounded by sycophants not really seeing her for what she has become or WORSE not even caring what she has become just using her for their own gain. It’s sickening. I would think these people would have known better. I would have hoped these people would have known better.. I’m extremely disappointed because I really thought they were better than that, but I guess concern for their own success is all they really care about, so they are just content to ride the coattails of their meal ticket for better, and now for worse. If Britney goes down, I hope THEY go down, too. She should never have been encouraged to take the stage ever. Yeah, she’s an adult and ultimately responsible, but then again even adults are vulnerable sometimes. (At least, Janet had sense enough to call-off the tour.. Hopefully, this next time around, Janet will surround herself with true professionals rather than people out for their own gain.)

Finally, I also think the artists MTV created need to transition or they will be over, too. Britney, Janet’s and even Madonna’s style of performing seem to be passe. To me audiences are getting a bit tired of the lip-synching with dancing. Most people want to see music artists who attempt to sing at the very least. I just don’t think the lip-synching is going to cut any more. Madge has tried to transition to more of a live vocalist. I think Janet and Britney if she ever takes care of her personal issues enough to make a true comeback are going to have to sing live even if they dance. They are definitely going to have to mix it up a bit more because people aren't going to continue to buy what they are selling.

Last night was a damn sad commentary about commercial music, or perhaps the commercial side of the entertainment business as a whole. It’s disgusting because I feel badly for the PEOPLE involved. But in a way, this might have been music's and MTV's "rock bottom," so it's going to have to decide how to be credible again.. if that's even possible. Do ya'll remember the song "Video killed the radio star"? Well now, MTV "reign" has run its course because people are tired of the "image" without any substance behind it.

Hit the nail on the head! This is MTV"s fuckup, too! I think MTV is very good at passing the buck and coming out of stuff smelling like a rose. I wouldn't be shocked to hear spin on the channel during one of the few moments they are live or during their news. That's what happened with Janet for sure. Justin and MTV are the same in that respect....judging from one article, Justin is MTV and MTV is better than ever...seriously, there is an AP article praising the show but that does jab at Britney.

MTV and/or the producers should have been on top of this. I know that Prince, in 1992 (or whenever he performed doing "Gett Off"...1991?) wouldn't let anyone see what he was doing. Fine, but Prince is someone you can trust to be give an excellent performance. Britney 2007, not as reliable! They should have seen what she was going to do first. And let's say the rumour I heard that she was effected by what she heard Sarah Silverman was going to say....if that was the case, let's face it...they are on a delay! They could have pulled the plug....they could have said a bomb went off or something (hell, a bomb did go off). Maybe I'm putting too much of the blame on MTV, but what the fuck is the point of airing a terrible performance like that...was it on purpose. Was it so Justin, their golden buttboy could get a good laugh? If it wasn't and this was supposed to be an awesome performance, what happened?

And let's get into the Madonna and Janet stuff.

Britney, unlike Madonna, is not media saavy at all. It seems clear that she had good people who worked for her but not anymore. I don't doubt there is a huge sycophant factor that is affecting her work and her life. But even at some point, I think it's just her and she won't listen to anybody (at least the media is painting it that way). I mean, ok, if you want to go it on your own and even try and fail, fine...but this is becoming the stuff of legend! And while sycophants are the worst parasites ever (the most disturbing being that greasy guy that hangs around Paris Hilton and insulted Lindsey Lohan), at some point, you'd almost be embrassed to be Britney's hanger on!

Now to Janet....Britney isn't like Janet because she didn't even try! Janet, despite one iffy and one lackluster album, seems to care to some extent and has a soul...I don't know if Britney has anything there anymore. People have questioned Janet wanting to be in this business, but something like "The Velvet Rope" shows she has some soul and passion....Can we say the same about Britney?

Also, I don't think this can be blamed on the type of Madonna/Janet/Britney type of performance being in the past. There will always be those type of pop stars and performers (and lets face it...no matter if her next album is shitty, Madonna will have another sellout tour and would have probably been awesome if she was on the MTV awards). Britney was just off in every way. It wasn't just that she had a bit of a belly....It wasn't just that she stopped lip-synching at one point...it wasn't that she was barely moving. It was all of it combined! If she would have been into it all the way, the audience would have been too and it would have been at least a minor success.

MTV needs to take the blame because it never does, it pats itself on the back when it runs shows like "rock to vote" and things like that to cleanse itself of the shit it puts out day in day out, just look at its programming. I feel MTV used Britney, they didnt advertise that she was going to be on, BUT they leaked it everywhere that she was "going to possibly be there", then they came up with this idea of "show the show only once" since they knew some shit was gonna go wrong, plus it would get more people tuning in or at least talking about it. MTV is very clever, they knew exactly what they were doing, dont feel bad for them.

"Gimme, gimme s'mores

"Weird Al" has got nothing on me.

She is still hot (I'd totally do her) but that isn't the kind of outfit you wear when you got a stomach....and she is sticking it out! And as said before, body was the least of her problems I didn't see the whole thing but what I did see was an empty shell of a person!

Well, if that's what you call fat, then I'd question what sort of issues you might have yourself in regards to body dysmorphia. It's pathetic that our society sees this as overweight, and this is a photograph, which adds what, ten to fifteen pounds? In older times, she would weigh less than the ideal. I don't get it.

MTV has been is serious need of a major overhaul for years now. Justin Timberlake was really on point last night when he said that they need to show more videos again. As far as I'm concerned, MTV needs to change the name of their channel cause 99% of their programming has NOTHING to do with music at all. I just hope that the Britney Debacle what the straw that broke the camel's back but I sadly, it won't. It's all about the bottom line and we, the public are paying for it.

Yeah i agree, just the fact that they air dumb shit like "The Hills" and parade people from these shows around and make them stars and then when they fuck up they TEAR them down shows that MTV is very good at eating their young. As for Rhianna oh yes that was out of line and she better watch because Karma is a bitch and just like Britney can get bad press so can you, after all she is really nothing more than a Britney wanna be anyway at this point. Yeah MTV will spin this into a "wow what happend to Britney" instead of "wow what the fuck happend to the days when we put together a show". I will stick up for Britney mainly because 95% of what im hearing today is about her "looks, or weight" which is why we have the issues we have today, plain and simple. MTV used her for ratings and they know they did, because who the hell would be tuning in for Fall Out Boy.

Yeah but Justin said what Chris Rock said about a decade ago, so hes not a prophet or visionary. But im sure Britney could care less at this point what will be said because once again people are talking about her, she doesnt care what MTV thinks, MTV has no bearing on anything Musical anymore, so what if they dont play her next video, they dont play anyones next video.

I'm with you, Justin isn't any kind of prophet but he brought up a major point that needed to be said. And with Britney and her camp, bad news is good news and she won't go away just because of this incident. That's unfortunate IMHO.

I tried to get past this with just a chuckle but thought about it almost five minutes later and just busted out. falloff

But damn look at her eyes. Empty shell is right. It's like nobody's home. eek

I know...I'm overweight and am a little bit ashamed of that. Thus, I've stoped myself from writing a full song parody, getting into a blonde wig and singing it on Youtube. I would probably also have to shave, and I'm willing to shave the beard, but not the mustache. After I came up with that. I thought a lot about expanding...but unlike Britney and MTV, I had better sense!

but nobody is calling her fat though...she is just inappropriately dressed for her new body. the woman makes millions of her image...she (or the people around her) should have known better.

exactly. she's been in the game for almost 10 years. she should have known better. nod

But you know that MTV will never take the blame. Never. Get ready for the splash because they are about to throw her under the bus! On TRL, they will have the host and kids laughing harder than even Rhianna's cruel ass was (sorry, that was out of line).

MTV always gets off clean. MTV would air an epsidoe of "South Beach" or whatever that shit is called of one of those airhead blondes eating a baby...and then act all outraged and help the witchunt effort for the girl that would follow.

I went to MTV.com and the entire show is up....the video plays really slowly (unlike a Youtube video...are they magic or something) so even if Britney was on point, it looked like her performance was slow and her mouth was never opened. Even if the videos worked well, there is nothing else on there I want to see. Everything is broken up into 53 clips (becuase, as apparently has been pointed out by how the show was shot, MTV insults its audience by assuming it has no attention span at all) and most of them say Fall Out Boy or Justin Timberlake. I like the fact that Justin is made at MTV for not playing videos. They barely play videos and most of time when they do, they are your videos....so shut up, stupid!

About Chris Rock saying the same thing a decade ago (Chris Rock's first time hosting will always be the best ever...nobody should ever try to top it!)...again, Justin pulling an Elvis! You know if MTV does change their wicked ways (I don't see it happening...I'm hoping they'll at least improve their last great thing, the MTV awards) Justin will get all the credit...and then he'll sing "Hound Dog"!

She might get off easy with SNL since they start so late (early October....by then something might take it's place) and frankly, the performance itself will be more entertaining than any lame attempts at comedy they try. SNL hasn't had a satirical bite (except for Smigel's cartoon clips) for maybe over a decade...they've been sucking as long as the MTV awards!

The late night stuff will be rough. I barely listened to Howard and what I heard from him was mostly focused on the awards and he was not kind. Sometimes he'll have surprising comments and not agree with the general public. But his comments got me more hyped for this than any of the hype before. I have to say I was disappointed though and hoped she would kick ass...But the fact that it was a train wreck of monumental proportions is something too.

Again, if Britney were more media saavy, she'd probably go on one of the shows and give the host hell. She isn't (and has lost the people around her who where). If Madonna would have tanked on a show like that, Liz Rosenberg would be getting triple overtime!

Her performance lackluster was supposedly intentional:

X17 has uncovered the truth behind Brit's less than energetic performance tonight.
A source tells X17 Brit found out about Sarah Silverman's crappy line about Britney's babies just moments before she took the stage to perform "Gimme More." Needless to say, Britney was PISSED! ... as any mom would be. Britney was so upset she walked through her performance just to get it over with (despite encouragement from her friends, including Sam who was apparently yelling at Sarah backstage) to skip out on it all together). She held up her end of the bargain and got a major slap in the face from Sarah.

Britney threatened to ditch her VMA performance just minutes before she took the stage. Want to know why? Britney overheard Sarah Silverman rehearsing her monologue in which she calls Britney's babies mistakes and takes jab after jab at Britney.
Britney made it very clear with MTV that Sarah was NOT allowed to talk about her kids, and MTV agreed. That big-mouthed bitch said it anyway.
Sam Lufti was overheard backstage screaming at Sarah Silverman because of her outrageous remarks saying: "Sarah Silverman is a seriously unprofessional person to make fun of infants to get a laugh. Making fun of kids is not condonable," and that "she should have picked on someone her own size."

I never called the girl an elephant but that my dear is baby fat!

I say she should have gone with the outfit she had on during rehearsals...

We have all discussed the fact that her outfit a poor choice. but there was absolutly NO excuse for that ratty hairewave. She could've had a better weave done in the hood. Until her hair grows back enough to blend her extensions, she needs to take a page out of Beyonce's book and invest in a lace front wig.

While I am with Britney about making fun of her kids, cause that was wrong, Britney had no excuse to put on a lackluster show. I mean if I were in that position, I'd use Sarah's words as inspiration to show everyone what time it really is. Unfortunately, a lot of people are not like that and Brit is one of those people. It's sad all the way around.

Somebody said this but it was so true. She should have come out in a wig and when the song started or into the song, she should have ripped the wig off and showed the world what her true hair is looking like. She's just stuck in the past of ripping off her clothes instead.

Well if this is true, i will further applaud Britney. The main reason i applaud Britney is for going out there and not really caring, image wise, i think she should be applauded by women especially for going out there. In the past few months i have heard the following women called FAT....Mariah Carey,JessicaSimpson,Kim Kardashian,Britney,Hilary Duff,Aubrey O Day and Katharine Mcphee. Now the infamous story is Hilary Duff who admitted earlier this year to actually trying to lose weight after she read somewhere that she was being nicknamed "DUFF PUFF" so that led her to diet a few years ago, and of course Katharine Mcphee had an eating disorder and people actually thought she was fat? And of course Mariah Carey thats all i ever hear, Jessica Simpson has dropped 20 pounds recently to be more "hollywood". I mean really this is insane. So i think Britney going out there dressed the way she wanted and looking the way she wanted should be applauded. Does she make money on her image? of course almost everyone does, but that doesnt mean that she has to look a certain way or be a certain weight. And even funnier is that most of the comments about Britney are coming from females which is wrong, its just furthering the problem. As a guy, if Britney came up to me in a club in that outfit and was hitting on me, the last thing on my mind would be "Gee i'd like to go with you, but your stomach is a little big" give me a break.
