the lyrics do seem pretty deep and direct for prince, but I need to wait till the cd arrives and I can read the lyrics. some good one liners though.

the start of "YES" with the girls going yeahiyeahiheayhiyes, keeps transporting me to "melody cool"

'i've had trials and tribulations, heartaches and pain....survived 'm all baby" etc.

ok just finished 1st listen. Really enjoyed it. For me better than 20ten. Not quite up to Lotus Flower but that could change with more listens and time. Well deserved releaseing. A really nice addition to Princes legacy. Dont really have any negatives except wanting certain tracks to go on for longer! Prince could have nailed some of these tracks live. You can imagine him taking them to another level in concert. Going to give it another listen now.

It's funny you mention that because the end of 1000 Light Years From Here really reminds me of the end of Still Would Stand All Time. I just wish he didn't bury it so deep in the mix.

no not at all. 2nd listen Hot Summer does bring the album down a bit after the first tracks but picks right back up again

It's a good album for sure and better than 20Ten, Plectrum and HNR1 but not as good as Lotusflow3r, AOA and HNR2 smile

Stand Up and B Strong seems to be a bad rip. There is a jittery noise in the background. On second listen this another highlight. Great guitar solo [Edited 7/23/21 11:45am] [Edited 7/23/21 11:46am]

Yea it sounds like the CD was scratched. I pray it's a bad rip from the leaker and not that the Estate sourced it from one of the CDR's they found. The song's too good to sound like that. I can't believe reviewers are calling it a low point. I think it's an absoulte high point. The guitar solo is beautiful.

THIS. THIS. THIS. And I hope the official release version is pristine.

To me, it's THE highlight of the album. Whatever Prince was living through when he recorded this, he chose it for a reason and I'm inclined to believe it meant something to him.

It sounds like he's singing it to HIMSELF. cry

I also love STAND UP AND B STRONG a lot but I can only imagine how amazing the version has to be that he tracked with Michael B and Sonny T. Sort of Lotuslower/Dreamer/WallofBerlin energy eek

Agreed. It's incredibly poignant and beautiful.

The entire album is cohesive and undeniably strong. 'Yes' gave me a similar feeling to when I first heard Lovesexy when I was 16.

Yes, the highlight for me so far. I was blown away on first listen. Love the shared vocals and guitar and those lyrics seem close to home for sure.

You would think they would have the masters for this.

I wonder if Number 23 can confirm if his version has the noise on Stand Up B Strong

After a first listen, Welcome 2 America is a small planned surprise: not sparse songs, but a real album done & finished and then put away, as often in our history. An album that perhaps, once released, would not have ended up in the list of his best, but which is mature, varied, musically interesting and where the singers work much more than I would have expected, even in the songs where Prince puts himself in background.

.
The two pieces that Prince had reused for another project also appear here in a completely different guise. One of the two, When She Comes, here is a marvel compared to the modest version that Prince had decided to release. But the other is not joking either.

.
Hard to tell the best things at first listen, but 1010 (Rin Tin Tin) is definitely part of the deck. The Stand Up a B Strong cover is a conventional piece that feels weird on a Prince record, but it binds well to more harmonic tracks. And the track that closes the album has a tone/voice of Prince in some places like I've never heard before.

.
In short, the Estate did a good job to program it and release it as an album, and - again - we have to thank this little man for his desire to make and make music continuously and then close it in his safe. With this record, from death, the hundred unreleased songs have been abundantly surpassed, step by step revealed until today.

.
And perhaps - now that the various Deluxes have gotten rid of the overly mythologized '80s outtake pieces that fans had revered from afar - this album arrives and shows that Prince wasn't alone in them and that the surprises hidden in the vault are much more than you might think.

.
Oh yes, the feel is to have an album of Prince in your hands again: and it feels strange and sad and beautiful at the same time.

Same noise I’m afraid. Actually thought it was my headphones at first.

Overall I hear the inspiration of Sly And The Family Stone on this album more than any other.

In particular on Hot Summer, Check The Record, Yes and One Day we'll all be free.

I just listened to it on my stereo through my speakers and didn't notice it nearly as much.

Still it's a shame it's there.
