So is 1,000 Light Years...wow, very deep to me! https://www.youtube.com/@PurpleKnightsPodcast

the lyrics do seem pretty deep and direct for prince, but I need to wait till the cd arrives and I can read the lyrics. some good one liners though.

the start of "YES" with the girls going yeahiyeahiheayhiyes, keeps transporting me to "melody cool"

ok just finished 1st listen. Really enjoyed it. For me better than 20ten. Not quite up to Lotus Flower but that could change with more listens and time. Well deserved releaseing. A really nice addition to Princes legacy. Dont really have any negatives except wanting certain tracks to go on for longer! Prince could have nailed some of these tracks live. You can imagine him taking them to another level in concert. Going to give it another listen now.

It's funny you mention that because the end of 1000 Light Years From Here really reminds me of the end of Still Would Stand All Time. I just wish he didn't bury it so deep in the mix.

It isn't his worst album.

no not at all. 2nd listen Hot Summer does bring the album down a bit after the first tracks but picks right back up again

It's a good album for sure and better than 20Ten, Plectrum and HNR1 but not as good as Lotusflow3r, AOA and HNR2 [Edited 7/23/21 12:55pm] Welcome 2 The Dawn

i prefer it to HIt N Run 2 already mainly because its more corhesive. And I prefer When she comes on this.

THIS. THIS. THIS. And I hope the official release version is pristine.
To me, it's THE highlight of the album. Whatever Prince was living through when he recorded this, he chose it for a reason and I'm inclined to believe it meant something to him.
It sounds like he's singing it to HIMSELF. I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore...

funny isnt it how reviews called it out as abit weak. I love it too

I also love STAND UP AND B STRONG a lot but I can only imagine how amazing the version has to be that he tracked with Michael B and Sonny T. Sort of Lotuslower/Dreamer/WallofBerlin energy

Im just thinking how he could have taken some of these tunes and taken them to the next level live in concert.

It sounds like he's singing it to HIMSELF. Agreed. It's incredibly poignant and beautiful. The entire album is cohesive and undeniably strong. 'Yes' gave me a similar feeling to when I first heard Lovesexy when I was 16.

It sounds like he's singing it to HIMSELF. Yes, the highlight for me so far. I was blown away on first listen. Love the shared vocals and guitar and those lyrics seem close to home for sure.

After a first listen, Welcome 2 America is a small planned surprise: not sparse songs, but a real album done & finished and then put away, as often in our history. An album that perhaps, once released, would not have ended up in the list of his best, but which is mature, varied, musically interesting and where the singers work much more than I would have expected, even in the songs where Prince puts himself in background. . . . . .

Overall I hear the inspiration of Sly And The Family Stone on this album more than any other. In particular on Hot Summer, Check The Record, Yes and One Day we'll all be free.
