THIS! Is what I was thinking all the time: who says the leak is from the finished album and not the cdr's Prince quickly put together to listen in his car to see if the song sequence worked ?
I feel there aren't any song transitions/crossfades/whatever you call it.
Here's hoping.
I had low expectations for this album but I actually like it a lot. As some people have said, there's not one song I don't like. This is not music, this is a trip
No, it's not a drug, it's something more hip Don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine Purple music does the same to my brain

Was One Day We Will All B Free totally unknown of until the tracklist came out?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yep. Actually the last 3 tracks were not part of the tracks slated for W2A as mentioned on Pricevault before the final tracklist came out, although the existence of 1010 (handwritten lyrics) and Yes (PP Vault photo of the master) were known. [Edited 7/26/21 9:49am]

I unfortunately think the clicks will be present on the release as Morris has recently stated that he was given a CD to work with (not the multi track master tape) So I would presume the "Masters" that were photographed in the vault would be the original files without Morris's production added, And the CD was the only way to get those tracks with the additional production (Hope I am wrong though) he might have better luck if he was drummin with his Dick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However without the Vault photos that would be a few more. [Edited 7/26/21 9:57am]

Hmmmm, why would the estate offer to use the HNR2 version if they used a CD that Prince himself put together. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
"Oh, Man... This version is much better. Estate had offered to reuse this version, but I explained to them that the one I had was much higher and they ended up including it in this album."
Also this is interesting. Morris mentions that Prince did - and vaulted - an entire album with Maceo Parker.

few note the backwards part on Welcome 2 America: Says something like "Clear the channel of ??? clear the channel of facts, clear the channel of sin, clear the channel..." (anyone else?) "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

I'm very glad that the estate has finally released a finished album from the vault and hope they continue with this. I didn't have any high expectations for W2A since some of Princes post-2000 output hasn't always been that great but I was surprised. W2A is not on the same level as TRC, Lotusflow3r, AOA and HNR2 but it's a good album. I wish it had been the follow up to Lotusflow3r instead of 20Ten back in 2010, then I wouldn't have been so disappointed. W2A shows that Prince was holding back some really good music for whatever reason and it makes me even more curious about the other unreleased albums recorded between 2010-13.
I'll rate it 3/5 Welcome 2 America - 3/5 I like this one and it reminds me of TRC. Running Game (Son of a slave master) 3/5 Not bad. Born 2 Die 4/5 It's very good. 1000 Light Years From Here - 3/5 It's nice to finally hear this version. Hot Summer 2/5 A nice little song. Stand Up & B Strong 1/5 Nah its the worst track on the album. Check the record 4/5 Strong track and feels like it could fit on Lotusflow3r. Same page, different book 3/5 It's decent but haven't listened to it that much over the years. When She Comes 4/5 Far better than the HNR2 version. 1010 (Rin Tin Tin) 2/5 Maybe it will grow on me. Yes 4/5 Another really strong track but I wish it was longer. One Day We Will All B Free 5/5 Best song on the album. I really like this one. [Edited 7/26/21 12:55pm] Welcome 2 The Dawn

Sounds like this release is one I want to "try before I buy." We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I always ask at Kentucky if I can try before buy, but they keep saying no. I never sure if gonna like it. First they change straw to paper and then they stop normal sugary pepsi. Stellar review from the AV CLub

I have no words for how ridiculous this review is, basically says everything from 1996 until 2010 was trash, and apparently this is fantastic. We're going to see so many reviews like this unfortunately, because theyre all scared theyll be accused of being racist if they say they dont like Princes black album

That's pretty on the money for me. The Rainbow Children and 3121 were good. Lotusflow3r is ok. I very rarely listen to his other albums from that period all the way through. Welcome 2 America is better.

Try reading the review from the Irish times! Wow the most negative review I have read of a prince album. 1 star! The good news is apparently it’s 23 tracks long! I kid you not!

Finally some honesty hehe its pretty harsh but its way closer to the truth than the other over-the-top positive drivel ive been reading

i was going to buy this album this week but am suspicious of all the OTT reviews. and then when people are saying this isnt as good as lotus flower and AOA, which while with their highlights, were def NOT great albums overall, im dubious how good this is really going to be. my feeling is that a political prince album that finds him writing about race in 2021 is not an album white liberal critics are going to be too tough on. but ive a feeling this will just be another typical album of prince at this period - a few highlights, hopefully, but the rest will just be so so.

. To be honest: why are you here if you only want to buy masterpieces by a dead artist? I will buy all the unreleased material from the vault, because I would love to hear all the songs he has created. I can understand a casual listener, but a lover of Prince's music who is in doubt whether spending $ 15 on his favorite musician's unreleased music is incomprehensible to me.

uhhh who on earth are you to judge me for deciding what i do and dont want to buy? maybe you want to read a bit closer - i didnt say i WASNT going to buy it, just that i was suspicious of the reviews. either way, if i dont want to buy a prince album, i dont have to. i am still a fan and have listened to prince more than any other artist, and read about him more than anyone else. besides, i own all his albums, even the ones from the 00s im not that keen on, so i get to voice an opinion, thanks very much, prince police. fandom is not meant to be a totalitarian state.

Listen to it by yourself and make your own judgement. Why care about reviews... "You can skate around the issue if you like,
But who's gonna get you high in the middle of the night?"

It's hardly a political album. It's pretty standard Prince song subjects. The social commentary song, the sex song, the religious song, the record companies are shit song, the fluffy pop song etc. RIP

Accurate? Cool. I’ll wait for the 23 track version of the album then. “A gruelling 23-track odyssey of farcical self-indulgence” Pretty clear that he didn’t actually listen to the album. If he’s right, it’s a lucky guess. If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!
