In what SOTT song did Prince sing about such a situation?

Actually, it's totally relevant to what he said. And in the world of communication, the shape is just as pertinent as the content. [Snip -luv4u]

And you do definitely get conditioned to it, because even after what must be over 20 years at this point, he still acts in this manner and there are zero repercusions whatsoever. There's no way to block people on this site so we just have to put up with it. Any other site would have kicked him out ages ago but no, it's perfectly acceptable here, and I've seen people acting in a similar fashion face immediate post deletion and warnings. I've distanced myself from this site twice in the past because of him, and God knows how many other people he's driven away. He's a bad apple that the farmer refuses to throw out.

Clearly not - this release is not going to fit on his CD shelf. It's a disaster!

Makes me wonder how much the vault and official catalog is worth.

.

That is part of the problem: estimating how much it is worth. Because based on that value, you'll get taxed and thus you'll also need to cut deals to reflect that value. The simple fact that there appears to be a split over who owns what, is a major factor. And then there's the problem that the music industry isn't making much money.

The price for all that? £160.00

Wow...that's fat...and the price is very good for all this.

.

Yup. I do think that two of their four albums already had the SDE treatment, so part of the investment has already been done.

Depending on culture, situation, historical context, etc the shape might vary and be not what one would expect.

.

Just because this place has conditioned you to think it's normal and acceptable for someone to talk down to you doesn't make it true.

.

Efficient factual communication without sugarcoating lazy and confused people is a good reason.

This is in the area of awards:

We do not need peope with an award for particiapation but with a prize for performance.

Also we must discern between opinion and fact.

That clarity is also reason for discussion, which you might not like.

Do I need reviews when I cannot even check whether they are right in some ways?

WB has the priorities wrong again. The time spent on makeing these reviews possible could have been spent at packaging that fits a decent CD-shelf.

The result would have been a longer lasting effect of enjoyment than a few pesky reviews.

I swear every time I come on this site there is a level of amazement on how unhappy some Prince fans enjoy being about things lol. The packaging is fine, I am sure you will find a cool way to display it

It is not about displaying; there's some wall left.

It is about storing like the other CD's.

.

If this trend persists and I am heavily extrapolating here, they will do a Parade SDE with twelve CD's, each bearing part of a picture on the front.

To see these discs together they thought of a 2' by 2' display (i.e.: 4 LP's would fi in there) as a way to beat them b00tleggars at their game.

Yes, great way to display, bad way to store.

Seems you have a real OCD problem.

.

Why is wanting to store stuff correctly suddenly an OCD issue?

I haven't been in that room for weeks.

So you lacked details to come to a proper conclusion.

Perhaps you should dedicated the energy invested towards the Estate that provided no real ways for feedback, AFAIK.

Even WB (netherlands) does not really respond.

But to get back to packaging:

I still did not see jewel cases.

So if it is a digipack, cardboard sleeve or anything in there, be it of normal size of 12" size: it is inferior packaging.

I can not simply and cheaply replace damaged packaging versus the situation with jewel cases.

.

If you think, based on whatever, that caring for packaging is OCD then compare the time you have to suffer from my writings about packaging versus the time the badly packaged items will cause issues.

Not just with me, but worldwide.

Then your suffering will look neglegible.

udo said:

I understand the issue. Back in the day, I had storage for LP and 12inches, 7inches, cassettes, cds, books.

.

So the tourbooks were a problem, but they kinda worked with the LPs. The cd longboxes from the US were a problem, they didn't fit anywhere really. (threw most of them away in the end) Multi cd boxes were a bit hit and miss, as they could be just a bit higher if they had a cardboard box.

.

Now... the SOTT deluxe will feature a book that they will, luckily, also add to the cd's, not just with the LP set. So the form factor they went with, because of the book, is that of LPs. I think that decision is justified, as the alternative would have been again no book for the cd set. (or something quite inferior)

.

So it seems you don't like getting the book with the set and would have preferred a set that would fit in the cd cupboard. I get that, but if the choices are (because of the choices they need to make for this one-off run, they need to sell it all before the end of the year, if you look at the rights situation) between:

.

1-Every deluxe gets the same deluxe big book, causing all packaging to fit in the LP cupboard

2-The cd deluxe gets something for the cd cupboard and part of the book in a much more inconvenient format. Also, there is no guarantee it fits in all cd cupboards if there is a cardboard box around the cds

.

I think option one works for more people. At least it isn't a see-through hockey puck. I don't even know where I have that thing... the cd's are in a 6cd box with a printout of artwork. Of course, nothing is stopping you from doing something similar to the cd set of SOTT deluxe.

.

And yes, I am a bit OCD about this. I think you might qualify as well. biggrin

Indeed.

I do hope the mastering sounds like on 1999 SDE.

I do hope to hear many more details, finally understand some lyrics, etc.

I do hope to 'get' the vibe like I did when I was younger.

I know I can. lol

I was pretty much a cassette kid in '87, but I bought the SOTT vinyl because I had to have that big blue heart sticker. And while I listened to it several times on vinyl, it wasn't long before I taped it and went that route. Then in '89 I bought the cd (my 1st cd ever - two jewel cases in a longbox, $50 CDN) and have listened to that ever since.

So I really haven't heard this album sound like it should in 33 years. Three cheers for Bernie! biggrin

SOTT was a cassette album for me--as was everything from Parade to prince (well, I was still picking up 12-inches and older used associated artist releases on vinyl). Cassette was the format I heavy-listened to those on, only beginning to listen to things on CD with the Hits/B-sides release. So my better part of a year going to sleep to SOTT was done with cassette. That's what I hear when I imagine it in my head. I've obviously listened to the CD since then (my cassette's long gone), but, well, let's just say I'm really looking forward to a good sounding remaster, and I hope that's what we get.

eye have stil got my sott cassette as my go to listening altho if the rereleased a cassette version with tinted clear shell like they did purple rain i may be tempted to purchase a backup copy .. as for storage .. as someone who makes custom cassettes for all my prince bootlegs and outtakes .. i see no reason you could not just make custom jewel cases for all your cds and simply store the sott book with your books .. its fun and all you need is a printer and a decent photo edit program .. eye am looking forward to making custom cassettes of all these new outtakes and live shows .. i will store the book next to one of my oversized prince books .. the 1999 deluxe was different than the pr deluxe so they havent had anything consistent yet but the cdbooklets are real hard to read so i get the new approach .. a crystal ball deluxe release from sony would be great! but they need to do around the world in a day before they run out of time .. maybe a box of everything pre 1999 .. then they can hit the soundtracks

Just think about...Frankie goes to Hollywood "Inside the pleasuredome"....a double album on 180g vinyl, three 10" singles, a cassingle, a 5 track download-only instrumental EP and a DVD...and a book.

Very interesting...but always expensive....now....even more: 548 Euro on Amazon...that's 644,40 Dollar now.

I don't think, Sign deluxe is expensive smile

I'm mos def gonna buy the original remastered album along with the Super Deluxe and go straight 4 the vault and live stuff. I just want the original so I don't have 2 go 2 the box ev'rytime I wanna hear it. Can't WAIT! Hopefully (someday,) "Dirty Mind" & "Controversy" will appear remastered with vault trax as well as perhaps "The Black Album." Either way, I'm happy with whatEVER The Estate grants me! It's just SO NICE 2b able 2 hear his music in crisper, better sound! I'm STOKED! <3

Wait.

We're in a contest of some sorts?

Why didn't you tell me sooner?

.

No need to bring people down

.

That was never my intention.

.

or question why they're content with the release.

.

Being content is never a black and white situation.

It is the sum of things.

Some might be great, others less great.

To see things as simplistic as black and white does no honor to reality.

.

Not everyone is or needs to be as critical as you. Cuz if we all were, we'd live in misery.

.

You try to make things sound like I am depressed.

If you cannot take reality then there's other issues at hand than me being in supposed 'misery'.

You draw way too much from just a few words.

As you could read elsewhere I can sometimes do that better.

.

Now when will WB, the Estate, Michael or whoever do a decent job?

One where packaging, music, mastering etc are all OK?

Stuf that fits on my shelves, no censorship on songs, great mastering.

How hard can it be?

Dude, there is a difference between saying, "This CD case does not fit on my shelf, that's a bit annoying," and saying, as you have:

"This is a huge problem."

"Warner Records, Michael Howe, and the Estate have no clue about what they are doing."

"I hope we can find some of their address info in the judicial papers to inform them of these issues impairing their pocket..."
"WB has the priorities wrong again."
"Decent packaging is more important than prerelease reviews."

"What has the world come to?"

"Badly packaged items will cause issues. Not just with me, but worldwide."

etc. etc.

Seriously, you think THE WORLD gives a shit about whether or not SOTT will fit on your shelf? Take a step back, breathe, take a minute to consider your priorities.

You ever hear the phrase, "Don't let the perfect stand in the way of the good"? Think about it, it might bring you some solace.

This is sooooo dumb!! Not fitting on a CD shelf? I'm seriously reconsidering my participation on these boards if this is the level of pettiness we've resorted to. Here we are, on the brink of a game changing release, and people are actually upset. Not with the music mind you. But with the fucking box it comes in?? I can't...
