I'm completely fine with the format of the packaging. This is one of my favorite albums ever, it's arguably Prince's magnum opus, and it deserves special treatment. They're pulling out all the stops with the big-ass book, the special box, the peach-and-black CD artwork... I don't see how any true Prince fan could get so bent out of shape about this.

.

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned how it's better to have a full-sized book than a shrunk-down CD-sized pamphlet. I agree. I loved the "1999" set, but reading that booklet with my 54 year old eyes was torture. Especially with the color of the font clashing with the colors of the backgrounds.

.

And I keep my actual CDs in sleeves in binders on my shelves, and store the jewel boxes and other packaging in plastic bins. I can go grab a CD off the shelf in three seconds. So once I get the boxset, I'll retrieve the discs, and safely store the packaging.

.

However, instead of packing the book away, I will probably keep it out with my other Prince books. I have a feeling I'll be flipping through it many times over the next year.

Yeah, it was horrific! I ended up having to take pictures of the pages and expand them on my phone to make the legible!

I couldn't be happier that the same book is being shipped with the CDs, even if it makes the package bigger. I was all set to splash out on the vinyl just to get the full size book.

It's still avaiable from Amazon UK - CD and Vinyl deluxe.

EVERY single relevant contact info (incl. personal ones) can easily be found online – and perhaps you could find it too if you'd spend just a little time actually looking for it instead of whining.

A simple request is 'whining'?

I what kind of dystopian reality do you exist?

My searches did not yield too much; so assuming I did not search is wrong.

Your Bart impersonation fails on many counts.

.

We need relevant info for the Estate (money side and arts side), WB (Howe c.s.), heirs (all of them).

Then we can impress upon the truths that we find and the lack of releases of those.

.

Also we can direct the SOTT issue(s) to them. lol

No it wouldn't... You're thinking about the released plastic "hockey puck" thing, I'm talking about the "crystal" ball (prototype) that openend up from up top and revealed the 5 discs in the center of it which was too costly to manufacture to warrant the $100 price tag... But would have been an awesome thing to have; yes the CD's were shit, but the packaging could have been epic...

that he wanted or released the CD wallets for "The Slaughterhouse" and "Chocolate Invasion" instead of jewel cases/jewel boxes...

.

Digipacks and the like are for cheapskates.

Or people who like something more stylish than a generic and cheap looking jewel case stuffed on a generic and cheap looking CD shelf owned by a generic cheapskate...
Besides, the CD wallets, even though fake leather, were anything but cheap for those albums, so you're just simply wrong...

How about directing all that wasted energy at How(e) Prince's vault is overseen

.

Kindly send me any contact info you have available...

How about doing some fucking research... Google is you friend, right?
If you just used all that energy and point it at the real problem or for starters even used that energy to try and "look for" (publicly available since the 1990's... This is really getting pathetic...) contact info, instead of whining about puny "problems" like useless shit about your non-relevant CD shelves and the packaging of a DELUXE SET (I guess you haven't seen many or own any just because they don't fit on your generic shelf) you could maybe have something nice for a change...
But obviously the look of your generic CD shelves are more important than fighting for and demanding proper and respectful legacy releases from your hero...

And people wonder why most industry people and others look upon Prince's fans as fucking idiots and a joke... If even his fans don't care then why bother putting in effort for them?

Such a fucking waste...

.

And that's simply because you and others like you only whine on here and other circle-jerk "communities" instead of pointing your arrows at the right targets... Or, even worse, you applaud them for these garbage releases and even give them money for it instead of boycotting them and letting your voices be heard... By now you deserve this shit you're getting... Take a fucking stand or accept the shit your supporting... But, as usual with you whiny lot, it's just the typical "Voor een dubbeltje op de eerste rang..."

I did not yet read what you think is improper on these releases or any missing releases.

I posted my criticisms often and wide enough around here.

.

I can look at the Polydor releases of James Brown's old materials like `Make It Funky – The Big Payback: 1971-1975` and `Dead on the Heavy Funk: 1975-1983`.

These are tasefully done, have nice info, sound great and do fit on my shelves.

Can these be your reference too?

Yes, I'm calling him an idiot since apparently he haven't even seen any of the HUNDREDS of 12"-sized CD box sets that came out ever since the mid-'80s – and continue to come out today too, as for some miraculous reason 99.99% of the CD buying public has either no problem storing these releases or they are grown folks who know better than to complain about a box set's dimensions (something they aren't forced to purchase).

The hockey puck, not being the Crystal Ball that was envisaged, still does not fit. It doesn't fit with anything. It ended up in a drawer somewhere, with the cd's in separate 6cd box. To add insult to injury, every other format released later (including the hockey puck store release) had some kind of artwork included. If SOTT deluxe would be released like that, I'd be upset. As it is, it fits with the vinyl.

Do "boxsets" ever fit on "CD shelves" anyway? They're boxsets, not standard CDs. I used to peruse the boxset section when stores were more plentiful. Literally could be any size/dimensions imaginable... at that point you move to bookshelves and save the CD shelves for your jewel cases/standard digipacks.

Sure...
Sadly, a too small portion of dedicated fans have been fighting 4 years now for a respectful legacy strategy... Fighting an uphill battle against idiot "Fams" who applaud and give them money for subpar releases...
And here you are wasting your time whining about unimportant packaging that doesn't fit on your unimportant shelf...
Changing the packaging to your shelf needs still make these releases an insult to Prince's legacy and his fans... Apart from the sound quality of some of the content on these releases these releases are still as shit as any bootleg...

But obviously the look of your generic CD shelves are more important than fighting for and demanding proper and respectful legacy releases from your hero...

ok, I'll bite...

-Purple Rain deluxe: the remaster wasn't very good, some audio glitches, lots of missing tracks and so-so artwork

-Piano & Microphone 83: apart from stealing the name and the rehearsal not being too special, they didn't even do a minor noise reduction and other audio problems. Well, I don't see the point of this release, but better to have it then nothing, I suppose

-Originals: no explanation of wether this will be a series or what the thinking behind it is, some horrible mixes, not true to the original songs.

-1999 deluxe: fairly good remaster, no audio glitches, 2 fan favorite tracks missings (but probably many others not included either from the period), fairly representative live shows

-SOTT deluxe: good remaster (judging from prerelease singles), fairly good selection of unreleased tracks (still missing some), no real thought has been given to the albums that were envisioned between Parade and SOTT, finally decent artwork

-SOTT singles: baffling release, but fun for some, I suppose

.

So.. to me it seems they are improving when it comes to releases, with audio quality as good as the best bootlegs or better. What do you feel are the problems with the releases?

He only posts these sonewhere else for a select few with details on the contents (he already done this for the SOTT SDE also.) I want to read those too.

Wendy Melovoin feared couple of years back posthumous releases coming in the same form as Graceland with multiple compilations somewhat haphazardly put together. And I think it's fair to say that's already happened.

Roadhouse Garden wasn't part of the Purple Rain recording sessions but included on the deluxe edition.
Songs don't always flow well into the next track.
Sub-quality production edits like on Wouldn't You Love To Love Me. They sure cleaned that up?! Really, wouldn't it have made sense to hold back on that for Originals 2 until the sound had been cleaned up. Like wait for a deep learning algorithm. Or reproduce backing tracks note for note through a sequencer. Anything.

The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

If you can add value to someone's life then why not. Especially if it colors their days...
