I was at Target at 9:15 (they open at 8) and they didn't have it out yet. Had to wait for them to bring it from the back for me. Oh well, at least I got my pick from all they had. wink

God, that is so much like me. When I go to Target tonight, I will look through each one, and find the one that is "mine."

When I saw they weren't out yet, I asked the kid working there, he said "I'll go get you one". I said "Could you make sure none of the corners are bent up, I'm a collector". He came back with the whole box and said "Take your pick. I get it. We get a lot of collectors here." LOL.

It hasn’t even arrived to any of the Target’s in my area (Miami). They told me they have a truck coming in tomorrow and it should be in stock then. Smh.

It's called "Cinematic Mix," not remix. The distinction should matter in terms of what's been done to the song.

True it should but not everyone in record companies is as pedantic about these things as a fan would be so I wanted to see if my ears were playing tricks with me.

I agree with you though. If it's just a new mix emphasizing the Claire Fischer strings, then it doesn't bother me either.

The Cinematic Mix is basically THE FAMILY’S VERSION WITH PRINCE’s GUIDE VOCALS.

Unacceptable. It would take all my effort not to act the fool when I let them know how I felt about it. LOL!

For the hell of it, I went to Target's website...you could drive to West Boca! sad Well, out of curiosity, I checked for Sheridan, Wyoming. You'd have to go to Billings, Montana if you wanted it today. I lucked out, it is in stock in many Orlando area stores, so I will have it in a few hours.

I pre-orderd the Japanese version and got a shipping confirmation last sunday.
Usually it takes about a week to get here in the NEtherlands, so hopefully I'll have it around early next week.

What’s the website you used to order the Japanese import? Bit wary of the ones on eBay, in case they are dodgy fakes.
There may or may not be something coming!

I actually meant the terrible remixes (like Slave To The Rhythm). And even worse: Wanna Be Startin' (feat. Akon). This so called Cinematic Remix lets us hear Prince's naked voice recording for a few measures. It touches me.

OK, IDK, to me it's all the same. Now if it's posthumous and they're gonna come clear with it because they felt they needed that to sell the shit, then I don't need to approve but I can live with it. But if they say it's "as we found it" and it's not, then it's a no go sad

I see what you mean.

As bad as things are in Prince world, and trust me, they are bad...it is worse as an MJ fan. The idiots did not even release all the best outtakes. Like the Dangerous one...uh...what is it, "If You Don't Love Me?" Or the incredible acoustic version of "Give In To Me." As a complete fanatic of MJ, it hurts that so much material is rotting away. No Victory tour DVD/Blu Ray...Bad in Japan and Australia should have been out by now.....and as far as fake vocals? Who knows? MJ used vocal alteration on "Shout" the B-Side to "Cry," a lesser known single from Invincible.

I usually avoid MJ discussions here, but so far, things are worse in Prince world...then again, neither has been what it should be or could be. sad But I'm happy we at least have originals smile

Jesse did the original music but Prince wrote the lyrics with Morris and created the melody.

I do wonder what their standard was or will be for possible Vol 2? Take "Cool" lyrics by Dez. Sure he seems to have reclaimed it the last several years but still. But I would love to hear his version.

As much as Originals was an improvement over the last release, I want them to move on to just releasing the best outtakes available. Witness, Original Old Friends, 86 versions of Can't Stop, Data Bank...which would've been the best track on Originals to begin with, as The Time's version is terrible in comparison.

I finally have the Target Exclusive lol

A tad let down. It should have included the synths and have it just be Prince + strings + Claire Fischer orchestra + Eric Leeds sax solo + background vocals and not bring the drums, etc after the 1:25 minute mark

Like we already have that, don’t just change the intro, barely slap on the orchestra on top of the original version and call that the “Cinematic Mix”!!
I feel insulted.

they have the same problem Prince had... too much music... and as far as I know they are still working on getting it all archived and organized and cataloged.

As for the ‘Frankenstein’ version argument, it’s too early to tell if this is even an issue. This issue would go away if estate simply provided technical information, plus, untouched versions may come at a later date, in more hardcore comprehensive sets.

One could only hope...

This is not the problem whatsoever, you seem to have no clue...
The prince Estate is the only entity we want this stuff to release, we don't care about "exclusivity", we just want The prince Estate to release this stuff so bootleggers will be cancelled out as much as possible...

If the ‘legacy’ is being eroded, the elite traders are as much to blame as the estate, as they are criticising from the shadows, rather than blowing the issue out in the open.

Again, you have no clue...

Neversin.

Opinions mate, opinions.

I've always loved your commentary and I hope it continues, and it's got it's sources, but we can't treat everything as gospel, in the same way we can't treat opinion as 'no clue'.

Lets talk about the Cinematic version of NC2U.

After hearing the argument that the estate sourced it tape, can anyone explain the quality of arrangement of this mix? The version in traders hands that appeared in the bootleg mainstream a couple of years ago was the reference point for the 'frankenstein' debate last year, but the cinematic mix does not sound like vocal isolation software.

So it begs the question; if the estate does indeed have a multi track, were the 'experts' all wrong last year, (based on their only reference point) and, how many other mixes might exist?

I was hoping for the Prince 'Family' version too, but actually, I like this different take on it. It's not half Prince version/half Family version. There is clearly different instrumentation on this. The guitar licks at 2:16 are particularly lush.

I'm only a couple of day into this, but (sonically) this could be the best version in my eyes. Funny thing is, if its found to be a 2019 remix, everyone will rag on it. If its found out to be a version from the vault that Prince mixed in 1991 before re-recording, everyone will claim it's the the 'definative' version.

If you heard this was one of Prince's mixes, would you still feel insulted?

Man, can't people get along. From what I have known with my association with hardcore fans, and my own interactions with multiple Prince associates, Prince was not exactly tight with anyone in his family with a few short lived exceptions. So "The Estate" is a collection of people who are related to him, but it seems they know little about his music. In fact, it seems at least 75% of the active posters on these forums are better qualified to mine the vault for the fans who actually care about it. Is the estate really any different from bootleggers? Well, I know I am going off the deep end, but the bootleggers know more about what we all want than the Estate, Troy Marter, Steve Howe, or whoever these people are.

I've read all the arguments here about Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Wolfman who all seem to have some input. While I believe there is some funny business going on with these mixes on Originals...Meat is right by saying opinons. As much as it pains me to say it, my opinion is that Tony M was an overrated piece of garbage. Does not make it fact, although rapping about Manure is a pretty good example of how awful he was lol.

I do see a few on here being a bit harsh to people simply giving their opinions...I don't think anyone really deserves such treatment, unless it is me telling Bart Van Halen to Google "NPG Music Club" and see that his signature is outdated as the NPG Music Club can't exist to approve his posts...whatever that means

I really, really love the Cinematic Mix. It's incredibly powerful.

With that said, I do appreciate the concerns over its authenticity. With any artist you'd want a posthumaus release to reflect their artisitic intent. But with Prince I'd argue it's even more important because he was even more of a control freak than most other artists. While he did occassionally let other people remix his songs throughout his career, and he even worked with a producer on a couple of his later albums, he was generally pretty opposed to anyone altering his music in any way. Some other artists are not only tolerant of that, but actually enjoying seeing the new directions people can take with their stuff.

On Sex Shooter, the drums sound like standard Linn snare, but then on the released version they sound more "processed".

.

.

Do they just do that in post-production or you think he re-did the drum track with different settings on the Linn?
