More info: it will be a double cd, 29 euro (more or less) and a lot of "album/edit version" on it.

This rules out Nothing Compares 2 U being his original studio version

Anyone have any idea as to whether either release will be available on streaming platforms? (e.g. Spotify).

Wow, P approved this track list - head & sexy mf - very interesting

Wonder which version of Sexy MF. If it's the original clean edit, then it's not surprising.

If it's the uncensored version, then that would be a shock. Even more of a shocker if it's the updated version, which was played on the PA at one of the Indigo shows in '07. That is unlikely but would be another reason to buy the set.

Updated version of Sexy MF?? I don't think I was aware of such a thing.

That said, those Indigo nights were pretty amazing so my mind probably doesn't remember everything. I may well have been there and heard it and not processed it correctly.

Was it a re-recording or a remix? Clean or naughty? I freaking love that song.

Did you seriously think there was ever a chance of that happening. Of course it was going to be the Hits/B-Sides version.

This is great news. Other artist have many Greatest Hit compilation cds so I don't what's with the negative talk.

Greatest hits compilations are all about the music labels. It has nothing to do with the artist. The more greatest hits compilations are issued, the worse is the state of success from that artist. Or the artist is dead. As is the case here. From here it's a small step to a Christmas album. Or as someone said in the TV series 'Vinyl': "Christmas albums is where artists bury their careers".

How are they going to do an Xmas album, that would usually mean the artist recording specific material for one.

.

.

Look, we all wish he wasn't - but he's gone. People talking about "I'm not buying it because he didn't authorize it" blah, blah - what you've never bought an album by a deceased artist before? Come on. Prince is no different to any other artist.

.

"Why isn't this on it? Why isn't that on it?" - There's only so much they can fit on -it is a double CD, it contains several singles that haven't been on a greatest hits release before. Disregarding the B-sides disc, I think this release rivals Hits 1+2 in terms of tracklist and probably betters it in terms of singles included.

.

MBGITW was his final big hit, his only UK #1 - I'm sure if they could've put it on in time they would've over something like a poor charting single like Glam Slam. To me this says there are still legal hoops to jump through before they can include material like this.

.

Thinking about what we could've got, I think this 2CD set and the announcement of PR Special Edition is nothing to complain about. It's only six months since his passing. There are many more releases to come in the future. chill pill

Re-recording and clean. Had a sample of "Everybody dance now" from C&C Music Factory's, Gonna Make You Sweat, in place of "You sexy mother fucker".

I do think it is a little dangerous for Warners to always highlight a narrow slice of Prince's career.

.

For example, by always ignoring tracks from The Gold Experience, this will make casual listeners ignorant of that era. If Warners then wished to release a Gold Experience deluxe edition, it would pick up less interest.

.

Warners know that the casual buyer will be attracted to the bigger hits, so this is a good opportunity to sneak in the lessor known singles.

.

This will then educate the listener to Prince's later work / albums with Warners.

.

Just a thought.

smile

.

WBR apparently cannot use TGE tracks. I wouldn't be surprised if WBR have urged Prince repeatedly to do remastered and expanded releases and to allow them access to later material for inclusion on compilations.

It wasn't listed as such on the back cover of The Hits? They forgot? It decreases the value of it's inclusion? I don't know.

.

The only reason it's there is because it's one of his best known songs, if the live version hadn't been edited for the Hits, I doubt it would've been included here at all. I'm sure if they were including Prince's studio version they would've said so in the blurb purely for it's marketing potential. This is the Hits/B-sides version, plain and simple.

That makes this release officially meh.

I mean: I did not like P doing the hits live anymore so why like the hits compilations?

I will play the '4ever' only 'new' song now.

I'm still holding out hope for some of those, because I have trouble believing When Doves Cry is gonna be the full album version.

Somebody should run the numbers and see if the tracklistings of each disc add up to 80 minutes...

LOL!!! at the negativity.

The greatest hits ain't for us the diehards. It's for Mr. and Mrs. EverybodyElse, and it will help keep the cash coming so we the diehards can have things like a Prince museum, more releases down the line, etc.

I'll gladly get both releases as a matter of supporting the legacy, but of course the PR Deluxe is what I'm really looking forward to.

i agree completely. i guess they would have done so if they'd stretched the release to 3 discs,
but they probably figured that would scare off occasional listeners and new fans due to costs,
or just the sheer bulk of material.

lol. warners still doesn't want to release a 3 disc album lol
