^ Wow doesn't have much relevance for Christmas. I was just thinking of something upbeat and more recent it wasn't really a suggestion. Same with "7". although the latter being available on P4E.

Tweeted the legend that is Serpan too (i may be in trouble for even mentioning the name!). Serpan would Defoe support it I think. I may not even be using twitter properly - I'm 40, it's all a bit confusing. Comin str8 outta Preston...

lynx said: It's too religious For a casual listener it's too drawn out and takes ages to kick in. It's singularly probably the last track id think of. It's massively too long n as such on every level is completely radio unfriendly. Why does it have to be relevant to Christmas. It's years since a Xmas no1 has been seasonal in the UK

None of those would hit a mass market

. Thanks for your feedback jcurley. Feel free to suggest another one, as we're all still discussing choices at this stage. . You are right in that it doesn't necessarily have to be relevant to Christmas and it is true that styles and themes have varied a great deal in the past. However, a great majority of number ones still tend to follow a crescendo like SWSAT does and I think it also helps to have a song that inspires unity and which has an uplifting resonance, simply because of what this number 1 would also represent for the fans after this emotional year. . Finally, let's remember that it is also the intent and the strategy behind the song that can make this happen, and not just the song itself. This has greatly been demonstrated in the past with successful number one campaigns led by radio DJ Jon Morter. Life Matters

Even tho it's been released before something in the vain of Fall In Live Tonight would be more popular. If that had had airplay n wasn't Prince it's so cheesy it would have been huge. Or something like an edited version of Good Love off Crystal Ball. Hey I'm all for spiritual but I think the days if people thinking Jesus at Xmas are behind us. Because Im still going with it...

Neither Serpan or Dr F have replied. It could be I'm doing it wrong. Be a good idea if someone who knows how this stuff works had a go too! [Edited 10/24/16 4:12am] Comin str8 outta Preston...

. You must be reading my thoughts Dibblekins! I too think Gold would have been perfect, probably even better suited than SWSAT, it's a happy popular tune without sounding too cheesy or too religious, yet contains a great message and the Gold theme goes well with the end of year festivities... and let's not forget that amazing guitar solo at the end, what more would one want! If anyone wants to have another go at finding this, I will be more than happy to re-add it to our list. . I actually thought of Diamond and Pearls too and even Thunder when I was scratching my brain yesterday and thought the same about that mention of Jesus, but it is also quite catchy like you said so I will add to our list of choices anyway. After all it is all about breaking the mould isn't it? . I am still up for SWSAT but I'm also very gutted about Gold though, even my daughter now thinks it is the best one for Christmas! Sorry about the delays in responding everyone, I need to have my keyboard fixed as some keys are a bit temperamental at the moment. I've only had this laptop for a few months, see what this forum has done to it. Life Matters

. You are exactely right Lovejunky, same problem as with Gold, I will keep on looking but if it really is the case it's quite shocking isn't it... Life Matters

. I'm the wrong person to ask I'm afraid, but I have a close friend with some connections who said she'll help me with that side of things, nearer the time. We really need to decide on that song first and also make sure no one buys before Friday 16th December and perhaps some of our US orgers could also get involved in this (come on guys, don't be shy lol)" , which would of course help a great deal. . Just to add that we could of course all buy a physical copy of the chosen song, though it is more costly and in this digital age a download will always have more appeal to most people, and will increase the chances for it to succeed. . Here is the UK Charts rules page for those who are interested. Life Matters

I'm up for it, Cherry - but, yes, we need a shortlist and then put it up for the vote. And share on Twitter and Facebook #Prince4Christmas
So, do we have a shortlist now?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
No, not yet. I want to give more people a chance to have their say before I make the shortlist. There is still until the end of this week for people to post their suggestions, after which I will set up the online poll.

Another Lonely Christmas ... I've always loved this song so much but it's gonna be very sad playing it this Christmas Forever changed

The songs that have been suggested so far are: .
. For those who aren't afraid of a sad song, two very powerful ones are There Is Lonely or Empty Room. I know what y'all are thinking but they are still outstanding songs that fit the circumstance, and it is available on iTunes as well. Old Friends 4 Sale also could work as a melancholic song, it has that Christmas jazz feel and mentions being stuck in the 'snow'... It would be an original choice.
. Does anyone know if Empty Room is available on iTunes or other official sites? I can't see C-Note anywhere other than tidal.

Thank you BombFunk. A lot lof Prince songs sound sad to me, some more than others, and to be honest, even the happy ones somehow feel bitter sweet in places. It will take some time before it all feels normal again, and I doubt it will ever be the same as before, but it will get better. Life Matters

I understand, thank you for clarifying. The reason I asked is because Bombfunk said two things, one being that she loved the song and the other that she was going to find it sad to listen to at Christmas, I just wondered which part you were agreeing with. And I also agree, that it is a sad song. My problem is that I find a lot of Prince's sad songs also very beautiful. I couldn't help adding those titles to the list above, I wonder how other people feel about them in relation to this project. Life Matters

If we are talking about capturing a broad audience i.e. None prince obsessives and you want something sentimental for the season. Something like Wherever you go, whatever you do off The Rave album would work. It's light, it's pop but also emotional
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I would have loved Wherever U Go, Whatever U Do however I don't think it's available for download either. . . Out of the list so far, my Top 3 are (based on mass-audience) . 1. Still Would Stand All Time (never charted before but from No 1 album) 2. 7 (reached No 27, No 1 album, one of my most favourite Prince songs) 3. Diamonds & Pearls (reached No 25, No 2 album) . What about..... The Arms of Orion, nice softly sounding ballad, about love, loss, the stars, God? (reached No 27, No 1 album)
