It just seems pointless (to me) to fork out 99p or whatever it costs to download something from iTunes for a lower quality version of a song I already own...

On the other hand I'm quite happy to spend £10 for 39 songs I already own to get an official version of Moonbeam Levels! Now, if someone at Warners had the bright idea of a physical release of Moonbeam Levels as a single, with a couple of other unreleased/ alternative versions, the campaign would make a bit more sense to me! Like I said, it's probably an age thing!

Now you've got me wondering how old you are???

Lol maybe they're trying to find out how old I am lol

Anyway, it's not for me, and I don't see it working - unless WB actually got behind a particular track on the back of the new compilation - but best of luck.

You never know with things like this...

.

It's worked twice on two previous occasions with campaigns from groups of people.

.

1. 2009 - Rage Against The Machine getting to No. 1 over the X Factor single (that group of people wanted someone else other than X Factor to be No. 1)

.

2. 2013 - The Munchkins - Ding Dong The Witch is Dead reaching No. 2 after another campaign by people, the week Magaret Thatcher died.

.

After a year of 2016 musical deaths I think this could be another year for a grass-roots campaign and as today the majority of sales are digital now, it could be even more likely.

True, true...(although if I was being pedantic Ding Dong...didn't work if it only reached no.2!)

It's also failed just as often (Viola Beach and Eagles of Death Metal spring to mind).

My gut is the 2 you mentioned worked because they were protesting against something...or at least perceived to be protesting against something (RATM v X Factor - both unlistenable twaddle in my opinion). I just don't see the same momentum gathering behind this...although, if the X Factors winner single is a Prince cover.....

But we are... we're protesting against the bad music in the charts lol. The momentum as you say is that it would fill us with tremendous joy to see Prince reach the charts, because it really is about how great an artist he is and we want to see his work spread everywhere, his music deserves to be in the spotlight forever... And this is not going to happen with negativity or by focusing on why this shouldn't happen. Not everything is fuelled by negativity these days, some things stem out of positivity too you know. Have you had your plus sign today?

How about suggesting or tweeting to Warner Bros that there is a Prince X-mas number 1 campaign, in hopes they will release Moonbeam Levels as a single for us all to get behind?

It would be in their best interests.

Yes it's another option and I am actually expecting something like that to happen with or without any campaign. You can always try and let us know their response. And that doesn't stop us from doing this too. As another orger said earlier, I wouldn't mind seeing Prince fill the top 10. cool

.

I tweeted Dr F and a few other groups earlier... The Purple Stream re-posted about the Prince4Christmas page yesterday... People are steadily joining and showing an interest but it is still early days.

.

For now the participation numbers being low and the song choice not finalised, the campaign isn't perhaps convincing enough. The involvement level somehow does not reflect the number of views that this thread has had so I'm guessing people are just watching how the campaign is evolving. I am sure things can change quite fast if each one is willing to do their bit and share the info on their instagram, twitter, and facebook accounts, small streams make big rivers don't they... I might start involving more people of influence, but the fans also need to show their interest and commitment to this to add more weigh first. Also let's remember is that what will be asked from each person at the end is only 99p for a track, so there really isn't much to lose. smile

.

It will be interesting to see how things develop after next week's poll.

Back to the music... and recap on the results so far, with the first 4 positions.

.

1. Still Would Stand All Time

2. The Cross

3. Good Love / The Ladder

4. The Beautiful Ones / The Arms Of Orion / Another Lonely Christmas / FREE URSELF / Paisley Park

.

I think we need more votes! Have another look at the list on the first page and let me know your favourite three.

Torn between SWSAT and Diamonds and Pearls now. SWSAT is better but D&P has the more commercial appeal. This is a tough one haha!

You can give me your top 3 if that helps. smile

Ok,

1- Diamonds and Pearls
2- SWSAT
3- The Ladder
The Sampler Set is great!

To recap on this, so far we've got:

.

  • Still Would Stand All Time
  • Another Lonely Christmas

.

I would love to add The Love We Make and Last December, but some of you might be concerned about the 'religious' aspect, although I do think that these are beautiful songs that could really work for this. In 2008, Alexandra Burke won the crowds with her more gospel-ly version of Hallelujah, and it worked!
.
The other thing we need to remember is that (obviously) our man will not be here to perform and therefore anything that allows for a choir (or that already includes one like Still Would Stand All Time) is a strong advantage, from a promotional point of view.

.

Awaiting further suggestions smile

Not another Lonely Christmas..I dont know...

as a posthumous hit...??? It doesnt vibe well with me..

But the idea of a Choir singing SWSAT got me...

then again all of the songs mentioned in this thread sung by a choir would appeal

Hi Lovejunky, that was an older recap, the recent one is this:

.

1. Still Would Stand All Time

2. The Cross

3. Good Love / The Ladder

4. The Beautiful Ones / The Arms Of Orion / Another Lonely Christmas / FREE URSELF / Paisley Park

Quite a few people have liked ALC actually, and it's a good song although I do agree with you, about the choir idea.

And if SWSAT wins, we'll have to get in touch with the Steele Singers... biggrin

It's been said already, but there's no way this should be any song other than Moonbeam Levels.

It's a great song, it's poignant, and it's fresh enough to most people to be worth getting behind and buying...

Anything else is just a bit silly, I think. Moonbeam Levels will be a new song to most people, it'll be newly released.... it's the only really sensibly choice, as great as the other songs all are.
