I think we can start selecting our favourite 3, in preparation for the shortlist.

.

So far we have the following songs to choose from. I have gleaned a few more from the "What Prince song did you have in your hear today" thread and other regular popular choices.

As you can see there is quite a mixture of upbeat/slow/sad/happy styles...

.

  • Still Would Stand All Time

  • The Cross

  • Sometimes It Snows In April

  • Another Lonely Christmas (many of you have mentioned that this is perhaps too sad)

  • The Ladder

  • Wow

  • 7

  • Good Love

  • Fallinlove2nite

  • Diamonds and Pearl

  • Thunder

  • The Arms Of Orion

  • There Is Lonely (another sad one)

  • Old Friends 4 Sale

  • Comeback

  • The Beautiful Ones

  • Call My Name

  • Beginning Endlessly

  • Future Soul Song

  • The Question of U

  • I Wanna Be Your Lover

  • FREE URSELF

  • Paisley Park

  • Dolphin

I promise I'm not trying to be a smartass or anything - I was just wondering what this thread was about? I'm confused.

.

Is it "what Prince song best evokes Christmastime?" or something else?

.

It seems like there are a lot of very different songs on the list - I get why people would suggest "Last December" or "The Same December" as Prince's number one 'Christmas song' because of the month obviously. But some of them seem more puzzling, like "Call My Name."

.

I think I must be missing something...

.

EDIT: Question: in the UK, the holiday music chart doesn't actually have holiday music? If any type of song can chart on the holiday chart, what makes it different from the standard singles chart?

Just a shame Last December couldn't be considered.

Of that list - Another Lonely Christmas, 7 and Good Love (which is purely a nod to my son, who loves that song out of absolutely nowhere!).

So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

Umm, the song list seems to have expanded substantially.

Starting a thread on Prince.org isn't going to reach 5000 people. You need to get the hashtag out on Twitter and perhaps start a facebook group.

You can run a poll on Twitter but you can only have 4 options. So you need to get this list narrowed down to 4 songs.

@Drfunkenberry

@Housequakecom

@PrinceNewsUK

@PrinceWatchUK

@PrincePartyUK

Are some of the people you need to get in touch with on twitter. If you use facebook then I suspect these folks are on there too.

We are planning a campaign to make Prince reach the UK Christmas charts, but it doesn't necessarily have to be about Christmas, as any popular choice could win.

Please check the original post, which explains it all ( if you haven't already done so), you can also add your own suggestions to the list as we won't do the poll with the final 3 until next week.

Also, the song will have of course to be available for download as a single purchase, hence why some great and ideal songs couldn't be selected.

I hope this answers your questions. smile

Thanks Noodled24, you are right, this has already been mentionned on the previous pages, and was going to be our next step, once the final song is chosen (next week). And yes, the list has expanded after adding the latest suggestions and a few more to encourage more people to participate. Perhaps you will be able to help us propagating the info once we are ready, as I am not too savvy with all things hashtags wink

eek Ooops, sorry Dibblekins, not sure what happened there. Will amend this now! Thank you for your choices. I am now keeping count of everyone's favourite three on a seperate document, just to be safe. wink

And yes it really sucks about Gold... sad

My new Top 3 from that list is...

.

.

1. The Arms of Orion

2. Good Love

3. Still Would Stand All Time

.

.

In addition I think the hashtag #Prince4Xmas should be used. It could coincide with #Prince4Ever being publicised so when people start to type in #Prince4..... then both results should prefill and appear.

CAL3 - Correct, the Xmas chart is a normal selling weekly chart (It is the chart that is announced on Friday 23rd December this year counting sales from 16th to 22nd December, therefore telling us what is the UK Xmas No 1) It is like any other week throughout the year. Any song can be in it whatsoever. There literally is no difference. So any song, sad, happy, rock, pop, heavy metal, rap is in it.

.

I'm not sure what other countries do, whether or not they make a big thing about what is Xmas No. 1 but the UK has for decades and it always seems to be an accolade for an artist to try and get.

Thanks mickeyaddict, don't worry, there are many different ways of doing this. I will get onto the social media / promoting the info very soon but first we need to know what song we are going for and also try to avoid people getting excited / starting buying too early. I have already set up a FB page for this and it will be ready for next week. The info concerning the poll for the final three songs will be on there too.

I really like this idea CherryMoon. I relistened to SWSAT in light of your post and, while I love the song, I feel it's a little too downbeat to really catch on with the general public at Christmas.

.

It's a shame 'Gold' isn't available to buy - I think this ticks so many of the boxes.

.

Is it too late to put a vote in for 'Paisley Park'? It's a catchy, upbeat song and since Paisley has been in the news so much this year it could resonate more widely. I also like the 'Paisley Park is in your heart' sentiment for the fans.

.

Otherwise, my vote would be for:

1) The Beautiful Ones (although I'm a little reluctant to choose something from Purple Rain)

2) The Cross (although not sure Prince would have approved of this anymore sad )

3) Diamonds & Pearls

.

Happy to help get the message out on Twitter once we've settled on a choice.
