Curious to know if anyone has seen the "gift bags" that were passed out during Prince's Memorial? Some of the items say "1958 to Eternity". Looks like items the family plans to market in the future. A gift bag at a memorial? Tacky and classless..... Does anyone really believe Prince would want this? They will probably be selling these items at the fan memorial in October. Something is very wrong with this picture.

No one is rich, yet. First the government has to get paid based on what the estate is worth. That estimate is based on what they believe the estate might make in the future. Then the rest gets divvied up among who the court considers heirs and that's not very much when you look at the actual liquid assets. I really wish he'd left a will. It's breaking my heart to think that most of his legacy could end up going away for taxes. I really don't like that the tax bill is based on a number that's a guess at what the estate might earn. It's not right.

It's not right. --- Why does everyone think a will means you don't have to pay taxes. Taxes will have to be paid will, no will, or trust. He could have set up a charitable trust but we the public will never no about it because trust do not go thru the court. He was the executor of his Dad'd estate and his Dad did not a will. His brothers and sisters acted a fool so I think he knew they would contested a will so he let the state divide it evenly. Not sure why he did not make provisions for the music but I do not think he was expecting to die so young. I am also fascinated by anyone saying a few million his not much!!! It is a lot if you had nothing prior and you did nothing to earn the money in the first place.

I understand however; I just feel that Ps family should have and could have done more. I understand that Prince would probably not want a funeral with people crying--he would want us to celebrate his music and his legacy, but still -- the least thing they can do is have a place where his loving fans can come and pay their respects.

I'm sure they have the money. How are the expenses being paid for PP then? I read that Bremer Trust is going to sell-off all of Prince's properties (he owns about 14 around Chanhassen). The most expensive property is around 1.2 M. Prince deserves to have a beautiful Memorial.

I agree! I feel the same way as you do. Yes, Sheila E seems to be the only person who is grieving the loss of Prince. Also, I feel his family is not doing right by not having a proper memorial.

How do you define "proper memorial"? One that is on TV that you can watch? You really think Prince would have wanted that? Of course if he just had a will that spelled this all out we'd know what he wanted... Paisley Park is in your heart

EnDo: Not sure who you are speaking to here, but I never said I was entitled to anything. I'm just saying the family could have given him a proper public memorial. I don't think that is asking for much. No need for rudeness here.

I don't know why people keep bashing me here. What I mean by a "proper memorial" is a service where ALL (whomever wants to be there and pay respects to Prince) can be there (allowed to be there) -- instead of all these private ceremonies or a service where you have to "pay" to attend. Do you think Prince would want his loving fans to have to pay to see a memorial service for him? I sure don't think so! But hey, what do I know? Bracing myself now for some more hate.

I'm not sure Prince would want a memorial service period. I'm not bashing anyone and I apologize if my comments came across that way. Anyway the event in October is for the fans and I think it's unrealistic to expect it to be free. I'm looking forward to that event. I think it will allow people to grieve but also have fun which is what Prince would want IMO. Paisley Park is in your heart
