No Bump in Sales from BET Awards?

In the latest Billboard, dated July 23rd, the first week to include the sales from the BET broadcast, "The Very Best of Prince" DROPS down from 34 to 36?

The tribute and such had no effect on getting people to seek out Prince music.

Seems a little odd, but perhaps the performers themselves got a bump?

I think you overestimate the influence of the BET Awards.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

--- He sold 4 million CDs after he died and the Ultimate is on track to be 2nd best selling cd of the year. Skipper did good.

Does that 4M figure include singles sales or is it just albums?

As hard as they tried I do not think the BET awards have a lot of influence. I think Beyonce and Jesse Williams got more airtime after the awards.

The BET does have a relatively big audience for cable, but so many of their songs were just snippets of songs from an array of albums that I am not sure it would pull any new potential fans to buy something in particular after the performance.

Neither of those are correct.

He did sell over 4 million combined singles and albums in the U.S. alone after his death.

THE VERY BEST OF PRINCE is currently the 4th best selling album of the year in the U.S.

The 4 M figure is singles and "album sales" combined; meaning that with today's digital buying they just group it together.

In no context, is Ultimate the 2nd best selling album of the year.

Then you'd discover that you are incorrect. 4 million included singles and "albums;" "Ultimate" is far from the 2nd best selling album of the year.

What the fuck difference does it make if singles or CDs are combined to come up with that number. This information is going directly from Billboard and you are bitching about single and cd sales when new artist can barely give their music away. Billboard is the tracking Ultimates sales take it up with them.

[Snip - luv4u]

You're only confirming that you a rude and ignorant person.

Ignorant because you don't understand the difference between singles and CDs; it takes 10 - 20 singles to make a CD; the 4 million figure is for singles; some of those singles were bought as an "album"

Ignorant because Ultimate isn't even the best-selling Prince CD of the year; that goes to the "Very Best of" and then "Purple Rain."

Rude because you resort to name-calling to cover up your ignorance.

Rude because I started a thread and in your rude way called me wrong.

Once again you are a rude ignorant person and I didn't even name call you once.

Wrong. He sold 2.5 millions albums worldwide 2.5 months after he died.

The only ways to make a boost in Prince sales with BET was to, like I said weeks ago :

- get a performance from top stars such as Beyonce, Jay-Z, Bruno Mars...Nobody cares about Sheila E, janelle Monae...lol what a joke

- get stars singing only songs from one album : HITNRUN2.

not true.

numerous articles and billboard numbers showed he sold over 4million albums and singles combined in the u.s. alone after his death.

maybe 2.5 is the worldwide number not including the u.s. but in the u.s. alone the figure is over 4 million. with THE VERY BEST OF PRINCE almost selling 1 million copies alone in the U.S.

The 4 million total was albums and songs sold in the US in the first week following his death. Worldwide numbers are clearly higher, as are the cumulative sales to date.

Not sure where anyone got hte idea Ultimate would be the #2 album of hte year when VBOP has been the best seller.

Whatever the number is, it's more than most artists since most people rent music these days (or just get it for free off YouTube).
