New topic PrintablePerfume, like your name. You know Prince earned that money and he worked damn hard for it. The fans willingly paid to see and hear that magic. I agree that at the tribute there should be some kind of memorial ceremony..some moments of remembrance for our man. I get a feeling there may well be. Perhaps Tyka will lead this. I'd love to hear a choir sing for him too. Let's hope. People around the world did cry real tears for him and I would like to think that those people who can't be there are able to feel like their tears are also a part of this celebration of his life. It's been difficult without a memorial, he was cremated privately and that's it, complete silence. People have funerals for a reason. A funeral happens for people to say goodbye to the person they loved. They are important and allow people to show love and respect for the departed and mourn with others.
The funeral ritual, too, is a public, traditional and symbolic means of expressing our beliefs, thoughts and feelings about the death of someone loved. Rich in history and rife with symbolism, the funeral ceremony helps us acknowledge the reality of the death, gives testimony to the life of the deceased, encourages the expression of grief in a way consistent with the culture's values, provides support to mourners, allows for the embracing of faith and beliefs about life and death, and offers continuity and hope for the living.
http://griefwords.com/ind...;site_id=3 we can't attend a private funeral, that's for close family and freinds but a public memorial would have been something for the people outside of the inner circle that loved him. An acknowledgement of the relationship between him and his fans. Tyka said he loved his fans and obviously we loved him too. That relationship has not been addressed or acknowledged. I know the tribute is trying to do that, well I hope so. Let's wait and see. . [Edited 8/5/16 5:56am] Baby, you're a star.

Amen to what you said perfume. Like Prince's passing was not hard enough and the manner in which he died and we still do not know the full story on Prince's passing. So another slap in the face is no public MEMORIAL for all his grieving fans and for the whole world to see. Prince was not only huge in the U.S. but so many other countries. It still boggles my mind. I wonder what Prince's fans in other countries think about the U.S. not having a public memorial service (not Tribute concert, memorial). Musical tributes are great and all, but words need to be spoken too, rememberences need to be shared and a final pay respects needs to be exchanged amoung the public. Maybe the Tribute concert will be part Memorial too, we shall see. "A strong spirit transcends rules." - Prince

Has anyone stopped to think that perhaps Prince, being the private person he was, wouldn't have wanted a public memorial? I'd much rather have a celebration of his music than a somber, depressing memorial service. Prince was full of life, energy and fun. I think that's what the concert in October will be all about. Maybe you are right Rogifan, and maybe Prince did express his views on this topic before he passed to family and friends. It sux we don't know for sure. I along with many many others on the org and in the world feel a public Memorial is essential in the healing and moving on process. I have attended many memorial services that were not somber, bleak but were uplifting, moving and profound. [Edited 8/5/16 7:03am]

(had to correct type-o's my bad : ) [Edited 8/5/16 7:04am] Why can't this October event be that? This is what Tyka posted on her FB page about the event: Tyka Nelson, Princeβs sister, hinted at the announcement last weekend on her Facebook page, where she called the concert βa day when we can grieve, share stories and dance together for a man who touched our lives, in so many different ways.β She added, βI regret not being able to give [you] this opportunity sooner.β
I don't think there needs to be a memorial AND a tribute concert. They should be able to do both in one event. [Edited 8/5/16 8:02am] [Edited 8/5/16 8:02am] Paisley Park is in your heart

So I know I'm speculating and creating my own wish list, but I really hope they get some of the people that he wrote songs for or that covered his songs (and we are all familiar with his version of the song in his voice, rather released or unreleased) to sing those particular songs? Like Alecia Keys for "How come you dont call me", Tevin Campbell for "Shhhh" (and perhaps "Round and Round"...always loved that one in GB), Melody Cool (Mavis), I Feel for You (Shaka), "She's Always in my hair" (DeAngelo), "Love Thy Will Be Done" (Martika), "If I was your girlfriend" (T-boz and Chilli of TLC), "When you were mine" (Cyndi L), "You Make My Sun Shine" (Angie Stone), Take me with you (Apples), Obviously Sheila singing Love Bazzar and Glamourous Life, among others, Tamar singing "Beautiful Loved and Blessed", "Nothing Compares 2 U" (as much as I hate to say because she was unkind after Prince's death...but she did sing it ...Shinead O...maybe we skip her. LOL) And all the others....there are so many. And Gwen S. singing "So Far So Pleased"...although not my favorite song, Sheryl Crow singing "Baby Knows", Morgan James "Call my Name" And they should get Kat Williams to dance on Prettyman.
Would be cool to have Lenny play "Dreamer"! And some other guitar laden stuff. John Mayer (I know, no connection, but he could do his blues stuff well), Maybe Slash doing BAMBI? haha Idk I could also hear Tina Turner singing "Let's Pretend We're Married". That would be awesome.
Of course all the regular suspects and band members as well. Oh and Carlos S. would be great for a few guitar solos. Just please...have a connection, not just random celebs. I know I listed a few non-connected ones, but I just hope most had a connection, worked with him or had songs written for them, etc. And obviously adding in some of his more known songs (and lots of them that the fans knew, but werent "hits" per say), I dont know who is best to sing them.
And I hope they play some videos of P talking and having fun. Prayers, etc. Totally agree, this should be a memorial, not just a typical concert.
OK...those are my two (or three) cents. Feel free to rip them apart now. haha [Edited 8/5/16 9:13am] [Edited 8/6/16 8:21am] "Put on your boots Alfred...let's go!"

Those that want to get angry can do so, but you are correct! We as fans are not owed anything! He did not owe us anything either but CHOSE to share his music with the world. For any of us to demand anything from his family or anyone connected with him is very innappropriate! I do think it is very kind and generous that they are doing this at this fans requests.

no one is twisting the fans arms to attend or spend money on this memorial event, however, Tyka did say there would be a event which is now slated for October... im just saying....I truly hope this is broadcasted for no cost to the fans All over the world to see. The bets truly did a good job of memorializing Prince, we can only wait and see. Loveandkindness

seems like prince liked to do things different so maybe this event will be beyond our imaginations a funkeral would be more fitting than a funeral. the word "memorial" gets me thinkin about mj's memorial, and I shudder to make those kinds of connections. Sounds like they will be including some space for grieving. I envision myself crying through the whole thing even if its a party atmosphere. i'm glad they're lookin in2 it being televised -- seems like a good way to reach the most purple Rmy members. flowing through the veins of the tree of life...purplemaplesyrup

Like many of you, I'm disappointed in the rumored performers and was hoping for something more focused on his bands and proteges. However, we need to remember that there was no will and so a big tax bill is coming due very soon.
Half of the estimated value of his estate has to be paid and the goverment doesn't take IOUs. I'm seeing this event as a way for the estate to raise a large portion of the money quickly without having to sell off the rights to his vault or, God forbid, Paisley Park. I have to believe they're trying to preseve as much as possible for a future museum. A big show with big names could be what they need to keep everything else together. This situation is so much more complicated than any of us can imagine.
If they do have the likes of Lady Gaga, I'm not so sure you'll find me at the stadium. If the ticket prices are astronomical, you definitely won't find me there. However, since that awful April day, I've felt like I won't be able to properly grieve until I make my pilgrimmage to Minnieapolis and Paisley Park (a trip that I've been wanting to take since high school and thinking he'd still be there when I finally did). I want to be with others who loved him and his music because it's only you guys (the other fams) who understand and that's the way it's always been.
So, even if I don't go to the concert, you'll find me in Minnieapolis that week because I want to be there to meet all of you. To cry with you, laugh with you, sing with you, dance with you and share stories with you. I've loved him and his music since 1982 when I was 6 years old. No other artist has ever or will ever have that kind of impact on me and I know it's the same for many of you. I don't care what the final list of performers is for the show. I just care that we're all going to be coming together to celebrate him and it's going to be something the world has never seen and will probably never see again. [Edited 8/5/16 22:55pm]

Amazing that a story - which only listed two artists that might be asked to participate - is generating so much depression around here. Do people dislike/distrust the family that much? Sad. Sad that something we should be excited about (at least I am) is depressing people. Shelby J confirmed that she would be there so clearly some of his former band members have been asked to participate. Everyone should just take a deep breath and wait for more information to come out. Paisley Park is in your heart

It is not about trusting or liking his family. Folks want what they want and it's all good. Excited is not how I would describe my feelings of a tribute concert for the late Prince. Fans who have not had the memorial, funeral that has been coming soon for months are frustrated. A tribute concert is great but a lot of folks were waiting for a memorial not lady Gaga or whoever. Yeah taking a deep breath is a good idea.
