Has anyone stopped to think that perhaps Prince, being the private person he was, wouldn't have wanted a public memorial? I'd much rather have a celebration of his music than a somber, depressing memorial service. Prince was full of life, energy and fun. I think that's what the concert in October will be all about. cool

Well, there was no will so who knows what he wanted. But I agree he would have wanted a celebration and I'm sure it will be one.

seems like prince liked to do things different so maybe this event will be beyond our imaginations smile a funkeral would be more fitting than a funeral. the word "memorial" gets me thinkin about mj's memorial, and I shudder to make those kinds of connections. Sounds like they will be including some space for grieving. I envision myself crying through the whole thing even if its a party atmosphere. i'm glad they're lookin in2 it being televised -- seems like a good way to reach the most purple Rmy members.
Funkeral...I like that!!! I invision dancing, singing, hugging, arms to the sky fellowship...for all...decorated car, festive wear just love and tears ...blankets and picnics and all night dancing ...kinda a Woodstock....a Funkstock!!!! funkeral. its just gotta be tuff on the whole family friends and love ones.. I'm sure every musician/artist who loved him wants to be a part of this..

FUNKSTOCK! cool yes sounds like a good idea! biggrin

I've been thinking about where his ashes are. It would be nice for some kind of memorial that we could visit. What if PP gets sold and torn down? There's no marker, grave site, statue. I live in Mass what if I wanted to lay flowers or something, where would I go? Where is his final resting place?

So I know I'm speculating and creating my own wish list, but I really hope they get some of the people that he wrote songs for or that covered his songs (and we are all familiar with his version of the song in his voice, rather released or unreleased) to sing those particular songs? Like Alecia Keys for "How come you dont call me", Tevin Campbell for "Shhhh" (and perhaps "Round and Round"...always loved that one in GB), Melody Cool (Mavis), I Feel for You (Shaka), "She's Always in my hair" (DeAngelo), "Love Thy Will Be Done" (Martika), "If I was your girlfriend" (T-boz and Chilli of TLC), "When you were mine" (Cyndi L), "You Make My Sun Shine" (Angie Stone), Take me with you (Apples), Obviously Sheila singing Love Bazzar and Glamourous Life, among others, Tamar singing "Beautiful Loved and Blessed", "Nothing Compares 2 U" (as much as I hate to say because she was unkind after Prince's death...but she did sing it ...Shinead O...maybe we skip her. LOL) And all the others....there are so many. And Gwen S. singing "So Far So Pleased"...although not my favorite song, Sheryl Crow singing "Baby Knows", Morgan James "Call my Name" And they should get Kat Williams to dance on Prettyman. lol pimp pimp2

Would be cool to have Lenny play "Dreamer"! And some other guitar laden stuff. John Mayer (I know, no connection, but he could do his blues stuff well), Maybe Slash doing BAMBI? haha Idk I could also hear Tina Turner singing "Let's Pretend We're Married". That would be awesome. headbang

Of course all the regular suspects and band members as well. Oh and Carlos S. would be great for a few guitar solos. Just please...have a connection, not just random celebs. I know I listed a few non-connected ones, but I just hope most had a connection, worked with him or had songs written for them, etc. And obviously adding in some of his more known songs (and lots of them that the fans knew, but werent "hits" per say), I dont know who is best to sing them.

And I hope they play some videos of P talking and having fun. Prayers, etc. Totally agree, this should be a memorial, not just a typical concert.

OK...those are my two (or three) cents. Feel free to rip them apart now. haha boxed lol

You nailed it! If this were anything like the lineup I'd be there!

.

I had planned on spending the $ and time to attend the memorial concert as I expected it to be about Prince with his fans getting together to honor him, but don't plan on it now due to it being such a money grabbing event which will be full of fans for whatever "A" listers they pay to perform. Kinda makes me sick....

Eventually every cloud runs out of rain.

People need to quit making stuff up! No lineup has been announced. No tickets have gone on sale. Calling it a money grabbing event is so disrespectful to his family and everyone else working to make this event happen. Is this about Prince or the fans? Cuz what I'm seeing is a lot of posts from fans complaining that this event isn't going to be what they wanted it to be.

Agreed. Let's just wait and see. Prince fans are very hard to please a lot of the time so I am patiently waiting on the line-up for this show before I book any flights.

Hopefully it will be along the lines of the Freddie Mercury tribute from way back. They did it right.

I myself have no ill feeling about the family. I think they will do their best to make it a memorial that fans will appreciate. I was only saying it would (hypothetically) be awesome if they used some of the artists that originally sang his songs in the line up, instead of using artist that will try to sing a rendition of his songs but had no real connection to them. Unless it's a line up of all people that don't relate to Prince I will be going if I can get a ticket. I agree that no details have been released so this is just us talking and discussing. For me personally I will just be happy to be around the fams that loved him most. And to be in the city he grew up in, lived in and loved so much.

Yes, Freddie Mercury tribute is exactly what I was thinking of. I want this to be the mother of all tributes. I've toured US Bank Stadium; it's awesome and deserves an awesome show.

I've been listening to some of P's live stuff lately and I'm really digging Cause and Effect. He did killer versions at Dakota Jazz club and Montreux in 2013. I'd love to see the 3rdeye girls do this number with someone. Not sure who would be the best fit though. And as I said earlier Lenny Kravitz doing When You Were Mine would be awesome. biggrin

Am I correct in recalling that Tyka said there would be ONE service because multiple services would just be too much? I guess that was true, until they realized they could spin the tears of grieving fans into gold.

Did someone remind these folks that the vast fortune they're being genetically tested for is the fan's money? It's 38 years worth of allowance, babysitting money, first job money, paycheck money, tax return money...? And it's not just the money, it's the decades of time, love, and respect that have been invested. There's real grief that countless people outside of Prince's immediate family and inner sanctum are suffering. Folks all over the world cried real tears, some having to take leave from their jobs in order to grieve, and yet no closure is granted for these people? How?

We watched Michael's service

We watched Whitney's service

We Watched Muhammad's service

Yet there's NOTHING comparable for Prince -one of the most prolific and anointed creators to ever visit this planet, and there's...nothing ceremonial for his fans and the WORLD to recognize, honor, and give thanks to God for him, or to celebrate his return to Source? That's unacceptable. In fact, as a great man once said, "That's dog". Do what you will, but at least livestream a prayer and a release of doves from PP. Good Lord.

I'm all for the family selling official merch, etc., doing tribute shows, and making a profit. Get that money. However, only after they provide a nonmonetized vehicle for fans to properly grieve. Otherwise, I'm not here for it.

I agree. I never like that Prince <and the impact to his purple army/fam> is seemingly under-recognized, but that's what it looks like in comparison, when mentioning all these other legends that had the services but Prince hasn't. It's been 3+ months already. disbelief

I'm with you. A fan since I was 6, so 34 years and I've wanted to take this trip since I was in high school. That was when he was having regular fan parties at PP. My best friend and I dreamed of road tripping after graduating HS and going to PP, Glam Salm, First Ave and all the other spots. I'm planning on going whether I go to the tribute or not because I want to be in MPLS with other fans who understand. My BF has said that I need to be with "my people." I'm not sure how I feel about the concert yet but I do feel there's something special that'll go down that week. It just might not have anything to do with the tribute concert. I hope the family will open up PP for the fans to visit and pay respects while we're there for the show.

The original talk I read online - not here - was that two factions of the family were fighting because they wanted to make as much money as possible from the television rights to any type of memorial. Personally, I think it is way beyond when this should have been done. October? During football season? Anyone check the NFL schedule to see if a game is scheduled that night, because sometimes they play on Thursday? Honestly, the ex-wives and BET did better by Prince than his family. And you notice no big names have been announced to participate. I just hate this. Just hate it. He deserved better. Much better.

Stop blaming the family for things we know nothing about.
Don't forget the entire estate is in probate.
Charles Koppellman and Londell McMillan were hired by Bremer to manage the entertainment aspect, NOT the family.
If they had their way, I'm sure things would be very different.

Yes people need to stop going after the family. We have no inside information. Carping from the outside is just in poor taste and not befitting of a Prince fan. Btw, Prince's cousin said in a local TV interview tonight that the tribute was going to be wild. It sure sounded like the family is involved in making this event happen.
