A-list talent is OK to have and those are cool people, but definitely NOT if it drives up the price of tickets. The people I really care about being on the bill for this tribute are:

1. The musicians and singers who played with Prince and can play and sing his music the way it sounded when they were playing and singing it with him

2. Other artists he produced and wrote music for

~

I am definitely still hoping for some kind of memorial.

~

Happy to have my travel booked... hope there will be other events that weekend too! Would love to go to something every day on the weekend following the 13th.

Agreed. I would want people he performed with, recorded with or wrote songs for. But with a venue that large I think they need to go beyond Revolution, NPG and 3rdEye band members.

nod I agree with both of these comments. I actually looked at First Avenue to see what was shaking. They already have events booked that don't seem in any way related (at least to me).

I wonder if perhaps something at Paisley Park <After Dark>?! That would be something special!

Also, I put a posting on the fan gathering page for this, but if we have enough Purple Army in town, it would be kind of neat if a local single plex movie theatre (there are a few licensed ones in the area) would be interested in screening a movie or two on the 12th or the 14th if nothing else is shaking. So a huge gathering of the Purple Fam can get together. Would be something special too. I totally don't mind even doing the canvassing but need to know who is interested so we know what kind of numbers we're looking at. AKA if you're reading this and ARE interested, let me know in that thread in the fan gathering forum smile

Interested! I think for sure we need to plan some events. I would imagine most of us will stay through most of the weekend? Especially if there are things planned.

If that was the plan all along then why wasn't this planned long ago? (As this will be a profitable event, and the family or whomever is putting it on will be making piles of $$$) If the initial expenses were a problem, I'm sure the stadium, performers, etc. would have accepted payment on the back end if needed.

.

I'm from MN. and have been waiting....As my avatar suggests; I'm a bigtime fan, and have spent thousands on his music, concerts, etc., but something about this whole thing seems tacky and just pisses me off a bit. Am I alone?

P.S. If the family is reading this, I take this post back if the profits are to go to P's charities, and the ticket prices aren't so expensive that it limits the ability of his true fams to attend.

A free event would attract non fans..people looking for a free day out with kids. Who needs or wants a crowd that are not even into him but came along because it's a freebie. This way mainly the fans and people who really want to go will be there as they have to buy tickets. Free events attract the world and his wife looking for something to keep the kids occupied.

Very good point. I'm not opposed to paying, but I really hope it doesn't go to support his family that is looking to make money since they no longer have his assistance to support them. I mean, either way I'm planning on going but it would definetly make me feel a little more warm and fuzzy inside knowning the money is going to a good cause.

I agree. I also feel the same about performers that might be tied to Prince on one song but not really someone that played wand toured with him for years. The A list performers might attract the general crowd instead of the Prince fans. I would hope that the true fans are there instead of a say Alicia Keys fan (and it's not that I'm not a fan of hers), but I'd rather see Purple Army in the seats instead of another perfomer's fan. Does that make sense? ONLY because I'm worried about ticket sales and if we will all be able to get them.

I totally agree with that. Wouldn't want big artists drawing people who are mostly just their own fans. If this is the memorial we get, it should be shared with people that truly care about him and people who Prince was/is a big part of our lives.

yoda

I also agree that it shouldn't be free (to keep people who aren't really fams out) but I really hope they won't gouge fams on ticket prices for the good seats! I know I want to be right up front, and I hope the prices will be reasonable/manageable. I am already paying plenty just for flight, hotel & car.

My guess is there will be a few factors in setting ticket prices. They'll need to be expensive enough to keep away people who aren't fans but would just go for the experience or because they want to catch a concert in the new stadium. But they can't be too expensive as to turn people off and cause accusations of gouging fans. Lastly I'm sure demand will be through the roof so keeping them high enough might weed out some of the casual fans so there's more tickets for the diehards. Londell's tweet made it sound like they're working on either an online stream or getting it on TV. I'm a little bit more skeptical about TV but I wouldn't be surprised if they had a website where people could watch it live online. That would really make sense as so many people will be unable to travel or get tickets.

Well, she already did her tribute at BET so that's probably why she won't be a part of this. The show can go on without her just like BET went on without others

No Shiela? That's a big disappointment! sad and yes would rather see the people and bands that played and toured with Prince instead of bigger A list acts. I love me some Lenny but I would rather see the time, Sheila, Rosie, the revolution, npg, etc. his bands, not just people that might have done one cover. My opinion.

It looks like the tickets for her show went on sale a couple of weeks ago. It's interesting that she said she was asked to be musical director(?) of the tribute show a few months ago, but maybe that has changed. Hopefully she will end up being at the tribute.

Absolutely. This event should be for Prince and his fans and nobody else. The fans that are still grieving for him, who supported him and loved him, buying his music and attending his shows. I've read a multitude of posts here expressing a real sense of loss and pain at his passing and I hope some of those people get to go to the tribute. I don't think Prince would want it any other way.

Good point. Didn't even occur to me, but you are right. At first I was kind of on the fence about how I felt with them charging a fee but I actually thinks it's better this way now. And more meaningful to his true fans. I do hope its televised though, so that the fans that can't make it will be able to still be a part of it.

Awesome! That was one of the three I was scoping out! I will check with them first thing once the more information is released about the event. Hmm. Or maybe just send a preliminary email suggesting it, to see if they even have available evenings. I think Wednesday would be the easiest because weekends are usually less avail. Or even a late night showing after the tribute concert? How far away are they from each other. I'll have to do some investigating and see if they would be interested in making it a fundraising for one of the charities Prince supported - that way we can all feel like we are contributing in his memory ( in case the big tribute event is not). Kinda a bummer First Ave already has things scheduled that week - the week BEFORE they have something like an Ode to the Purple One. Things like THAT should be happening on the weekend we are there.

Has anyone heard where people are planning on staying? I was thinking Chanhassen to be close to Paisley Park, but I saw a post by a Mpls orger that said driving downtown to US Bank Stadium or other places could take up to 2 hours in rush hour traffic. I can imagine lots of people texting and calling each other to decide when to fly and where to stay, but I haven't seen many details posted on the org yet. Would love to find out.

Without traffic it's not bad but if you're driving at all during rush hour plan for at least an hour drive. My plan is to park at the Mall of America in Bloomington and then take light rail to the stadium. It's a really easy/cheap option and it takes you right to the stadium.

Is it difficult to get from downtown to Chanhassen without a car? Do you know anything about the local transportation or coach buses? Wonder if I should try to get a movie theatre closer to US Bank Stadium for the screening instead Chanhassen - I assume most people coming into town will stay near there, no? hmmm

there is a weekday/daytime express bus that runs between downtown and the chanhassen transit station, which is maybe 2 miles from paisley park, costs around $3 -- metrotransit.org

nod and since it is a tribute instead of a memorial, it seems ok to charge more -- hopefully it could help pay off the huge taxes due in 2017. even though there have been worldwide and televised tributes already, this just feels like the event that will attract the most hardcore fans from around the planet. if there are some 70000 tickets, i would guess that at least 10000 attendees will be superhardcore. that might make holding other events at smaller venues such as pp more challenging? i'm thinkin pp may remain closed to the public until it becomes a museum, hopefully in 2017? but definitely would be cool for smaller groups to plan extra activities.

Charge yes, for sure, but gouge the most committed fams for great seats to a memorial tribute - no - that would not be cool, and overcharging fans at this tribute is not going to make a huge difference in the $150 million towards taxes. They need to get multiple great things released and all Prince fams everywhere need to support him and buy the things that they release.

Bus routes to/from Chanhassan into Mpls are likely around rush hour only and most definitely do not operate in the evening. Uber, taxis or renting a car will be the only way to really get back and forth.

I think there is now a tour that operates sporadically that takes people around the various Princey sites from Mpls to Chanhassan and I would guess it would be fully up and running (or it should be) for tourists who will be in town around that time.

As for where people stay, it would make the most sense to stay in downtown as that's where the tribute is and that's where there are good restaurants, bars, etc. Chanhassan is a bedroom community. Some great parks and such, but nothing really to do. I never understood why Prince fans coming to town insist on staying there...

I am happy to help plan but we probably need some local people to plan. It would be healing for all of us to have an opportunity to eulogize the man we love so dearly before our celebration that evening. I am not thinking anything complicated. Maybe some balloons, some eulogies, some prayer, maybe we leave a tribute from all of us at Paisley, whatever. Is anyone down?

Sounds good to me. If I can get a ticket, I'll be at the memorial concert. It would be nice to meet up with the org members. We need each other!

I will be be coming from Seattle WA USA I would def like to meet up and get to know the orgers.. I'm working on some special one of s kind symbol neckless...i silversmith for my orgers some with organite... As Prince was worried about the cemtrails some with his birthstome, some with silver and gold and maybe a few copper ones. If we have a official gathering I would be proud to gift one for s raffle prize. Much love.

It will be interesting to see what the ticket prices are, how many get scalped etc.

Am I a rotten fan/fam for not feeling any need to support the family? Sure, I will probably continue to buy any releases from the vault but for the same reason I always have: because I loved his music.

But I honestly don't feel any obligation to "support" a gang of family members that even Prince didn't bother to provide for after his death. Disclosure: I really didn't know much about his family before his death and what I've learned since doesn't impress me. Maybe I'm just bitter about how long this has dragged out already by trying to make it spectacular.

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade - I think it's great that so many here are attending and from so many places! If I lived in the area I would totally go too. I hope it is a wonderful celebration of an incredible talent for the fans.

There are at least 2 from Fort Wayne, IN here. Maybe we can meet on the way up? Or if tickets arnt bad from Indy we could head up with u. We were thinking of driving since its only 9 hrs. Tickets looked to be starting around $350 and going up. Seems a bit salty to me since we are buying 2. Id rather save $$$ for events up there. nod let me know. That's if we "get" tickets for the show sad
