Having a Medical back ground first we cannot validate another person level and tolerance OF pain. We can only measure our own. Fentyl yes is a very powerful drug usually prescribed but in very extre e cases of terminal illness. Fentyl does lower respirations and blood pressure. It could very easily send someone into a forever sleep.
However what was the cause of death be it natural ,accident, whatever We had him and his music in our lifetime, We did not learn if him late in his career. We had the Red corvett, Nikki, Crean , Adore, and Our PURPLE Rain WE HAD PRINCE IN ALL HIS GLORY NO MATTER THE WHRN, WHY, or HOW WE HAD PRINCE . We were truly blessed to witness his unique gift he shated. But like yes all his time was up he had to leave us his assigned job from the master of the universe PRINCE WAS TOLD JOB WELL DONE YOU GAVE THEM YOUR ALL NOW REST BEAUTIFUL ONE

I WILL MISS HIM AND WILL ALWAYS LOVE HIS MUSIC. AND WILL NOT BE CONVINCED HE WAS not THE GREATEST ARTIST ENTERTAINER OF ALL TIMES. HIS MUSIC WILL LIVE PAST THE END OF TIME

REST IN ETERNAL MUCH DESERVED PEACE
Loving Prince until the End of Time.

Blakbear

Am I the only one who had the really inappropriate reaction of: ".... you don't say..." to the listing of his build as 'petite'?

As to the rest of it, he was 57, for fuck's sake, with a body that had taken more punishment than is reasonable; he was sick. And tiny, with no reserves. OF COURSE this killed him. Let's just take a step back and breathe, people.

For me, the silver lining is that it is indeed over for him, and I am personally glad it's done; like his hairdresser said, the man left it all on the stage like he was supposed to. He did so much good in the world, and I for one and willing to let him be. Will I miss him? Hell, yes. He basically informed my entire life, and will continue to do so for the rest of my life. I can't ask for more. I keep thinking if he was that miserable for the last 2 months of his life -- and from everything I read, he probably was, even if he didn't show it -- then thank GOD it's over.

Naturally, I want to know if there was more to it than just too much Fentanyl.... but I think I'm good if I never find out. I keep circling back to hoping the man was at peace at the end.

I was given a script for Fentanyl for complicated bilateral carpal tunnel, something that flares up from time and time today. My doc gave me another script after exam but didn't take the whole bottle of the first, still have 'em. I am back in the pits.....I was feeling like, maybe, he really did just bug out...wishful thinking but the six odd weeks since his reported departure, I've just been soaring on his music to help me get through it all. Now, I'm numb and just can't move, my heart feels like it's slowing down and I'm ready to sleep for a long, long time. Where do we go from here? Another nail in the coffin, sometimes the only thing that gets a person through whatever is music, drugs, sex, alcohol, shutting away....what is playing is the boot from his Atlanta show featuring Black Sweat, damn that was only a few days before he landed in Moline.........I can't hear him now. Ready for long sleep.

hug rose this is a hard time, right now.

Oh for the love of God.... why Fentanyl? >>>>> BECAUSE HE WAS TRYING TO MANAGE CHRONIC PAIN!! <<<<< it's not odd at all. hell, several orgers have already written in this thread that they were prescribed Fentanyl for a variety of pain management from a torn spleen to carpal tunnel.

we don't really know. I get it and I don't get it at the same time. Prince knew about Elvis, he was a fan, to the point of writing a song about how he wasn't gonna end up "face down" and what happens? he ends up just like Elvis. that's the part i'm trying to understand, was he in such pain? we don't know, or was he just an addict or both? did he have cancer? it'll all come out in the wash.

I'm still immersing myself in videos and his music, when he was alive and happily being the genius we all know he was.
.
I understand the speculation regarding the cancer drug prescription, but Keith Moon was doing horse tranquilisers and he was no horse.
This news today has brought me right back down again.
.
Without being too overdramatic, I'm honestly relieved Prince is now out of the pain he was clearly in. Very very sad day again today.

I doubt Prince wanted to die the way he did. He had an addiction to pain meds and needed help. sad

Prince and stage fright? Yeah, right.

Don't you remember that very first interview Dick Clark had with Prince? Prince was so struck with stage fright that he couldn't even talk. Dick Clark said it was THE hardest interview that he ever did with a musician - he said that Prince couldn't talk, but he sure could churn out the music.

i heard pepe willie say it was stagefright and i've heard dez dickerson say prince planned it out just to be wierd. Man did thing for a reason usually. He just seemed like he wanted to piss of Clark to me and to have people look at him and go "what the fuck" which he accomplished quite well.

Poor Prince, I am so very sad for him. He must have been in so much pain to use a drug like this. There are many, many unanswered questions, but myself I am not seeking to know anything further, I have to let this go and move on with my life. It won't bring him back and I'd rather remember him in happier times. I will miss him for the rest of my days. May he rest in peace.

I get the impression Prince had a pretty bad case of social anxiety based on the interviews I've now seen and the things people have written about him. I can totally see him having extreme stage fright, maybe not later but definitely in his early years and who knows how long he has been taking meds to some degree.

Another interesting thing to me is that both times he OD'd in the weeks leading up to his death, each time was at night. Perhaps he was trying to get some sleep.

I know, I wanted to learn what could have caused his death and the reason for the overdose, but to release the paper itself describing his final state of dress and the scars on his poor body, makes me cry even more, I don't know why. It just is so intrusive. I know this is part of an autopsy, but to give this info and not the state of health seems so unimportant and somehow obscene.

you think this was intrusive you should go read michael jackson and whitney houstons autopsy's, they even said Michael had functioning testicles. Whitney had a hole in her nose and false teeth.

Things that had nothing to do with their deaths and reasons that led up to it.. With Prince if there was something terminal rather than chronic, I think that is what those who love him would rest easier with. A chronic conditon then his loss could have been preventable. Terminal, party over oops out of time....

admission is easy, just say U believe, then come 2 this place in your heart.

ya, i was thinking they might tell us all the gory details like they had to remove his afro wig before the cremation or something. so this is a pretty vague report, michaels stated every little centimeter of his body, as did whitneys.

This has had time to sink in now. After all it was not really a surprise.

I thought I needed to know why he felt the need for opioids. What was causing the pain.

But reading such personal details about him made me feel uncomfortable. Scars? His underwear??

No. I don't need to know anything more than this. The end came swiftly and probably painlessly. He is sleeping now.

He had reasons, and they are none of my business. Only his and anyone involved in the investigation.

He is not in any pain anymore and probably didn't even discover what happened. I really just needed to know how he died, that it wasn't in a horrible way.

Peace, brother.

Yep. I'm confused too.

Anecdotal evidence from those around him suggest a problem with his legs, as did his use of a cane, and decreasing lack of movement over the years when performing. Now we also have evidence of scars on his legs, suggesting some form of surgical treatment.

So, his use of painkillers is understandable.

But... We still don't know if he was prescribed Fentanyl, or if he was buying it illicitly - or both.

That dealer's story in the Daily Mail holds more weight now. Nobody else mentioned Fentanyl prior to the official autopsy results.

But if you believe there's truth to that dealer's story, you have to believe that drugs were taken decades before the pain, for recreational or mood-altering purposes. I can believe that. He worked in the music business - uppers and downers grease the wheels of the machine. Some here have an issue in believing Prince took drugs recreationally. I don't. It's very easy to believe.

And just because an underlying medical complaint wasn't listed as a cause of death, doesn't mean that he didn't also have an ongoing illness aside from joint pain. You know, if you have cancer or HIV and get ran over by a truck, the cause of death is the truck, not a tumour or AIDS.

I don't care if he was a drug dependant patient, or a drug addicted star - or anything inbetween.

I just want to know that he wasn't in unbearable pain for a long period of time - either physically, mentally, or emotionally.

I just want to know that those around him didn't enable his drug dependancy so that they could continue to leech from him.

I just want to know he was happy when he passed.

I'm not sure if this has been asked; haven't had time yet to read through everyone's replies, but since Prince overdosed the day the plane had to make an emergency landing why would it not be considered a suicide at PP? He evidently knew how much he took the day the plane landed, so why would he do it again???? Here's my thoughts on my question: 1. He forgot he had taken a dose and took another dose of fentanyl resulting in overdosing. 2. He knew he was taking too much but the pain was still there so he was chancing it just hoping he wouldn't OD and hoping the pain would go away. 3. He didn't really care anymore because the pain was just too much. Sort of like whatever happens will happen just as long as pain is gone but he truly wasn't deliberately trying to kill himself. So what do y'all think? I'm heartbroken all over again. Why oh why oh why. We lost such a generous, kind, person.

I read somewhere, I don't remember where or I would post the link as I am supposed to, that Prince's family begged the Medical Examiner to NOT write "Suicide" on the report, if that did indeed turn out to be the case.

I just don't think he could handle the pain anymore. If only he would of waited until he had talked to the Pain Managment Doctor - I think he would of gotten some relief.

RIP Prince. We will NEVER forget you. Thank you so much.

Oh please just because other orgers were prescribed Fentanyl for pain managment doesn't mean it's the gospel. They are not M.D.s - just taking something some doc gave them that they probably shouldn't have. That's the problem. Doctors prescribing medicines they shouldn't and that's how a patient becomes addicted. My understanding is that Fentanyl should only be prescribed for pain management related to cancer. At this time we do not know if Prince had an underlying medical condition.

*sigh*...

You both clearly don't understand opiate addiction at all. It's f**king serious. I urge you to educate yourselves on the topic. As i said earlier, it is a hidden epidemic killing many people daily.

Prince had an addiction, it killed him, and no, he didn't know what he was doing.... he needed intervention and serious help.

This could happen to any of us, it could happen to you and your families... our friends, partners, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers are dying everyday from opiate addiction in the community.

Frankly it is out of control, it's a modern day scourge affecting many lives and hopefully Prince's death may shine a light on it and bring about changes in the medical world.

Don't trivialize addiction, learn from Prince's death and you my save someone's life oneday if you intervene and take them seriously and get them help for their addiction.

Sorry to have to say it but Prince may still have had AIDS. It's just not what actually killed him. That drug is used frequently with cancer patients. Many celebrities have hidden they had AIDS when they died.

It doesn't really matter. I think he had to have had a serious illness to do this to himself.
