This is the Billboard tribute, being a musician ain't got nothing to do with doing well on the Billboard charts. She'll do good, Madonna knows where it's at.

Sorry but anyone who thinks her speech about mj was good is delusional. She kept comparing herself to him , making it all about her. It was nauseating.

Here is what anyone with sense organising the tribute would do .

You have guest performers singing a prince song and go through all the bands. So i'd have d angelo first and you start with 3rd eye girl and work your way back. You make it a 30 min tribute to fit in as many of prince's bands and make it an actualy TRIBUTE. extend the show or take stuff out but madonna is no ' tribute' to someone on prince's level.

Do people not realise it will be ages , if ever, until we see his like again?

Exactly. She's about as sincere as a smiling prostitute. She loves to make everything about herself. I don't think she would be Prince's choice by a long shot.
.
Whether it's a musical tribute or a speech - she's the wrong choice.
Baby, that was much too fast... 1958-2016

Prince is a musician. Musicians that he respected, worked with, and wrote for, should be honoring him, point blank period. Maybe Madonna could add an 'OOWEESHASHACOOCOOYEAH" as back up, seeing as how she and Prince were contemporaries, but not carrying the entire shabang. That's called a hell to the naw on all sides of wrong.

It should be The Revolution, Sheila E., Stevie Nicks, Slash, D'Angelo, The Bangles, The Time, Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, Maceo, Andre Cymone, Candy, Rhonda Smith, John Blackwell...An ensemble that reflects Prince's diverse musical mastery and global impact. Needs to be a monumental jam session. A Jam of the Year (corny, but hey). High musicianship is required here, not a bleached blonde fluffernutter tribute.

We can hope that this is what we'll see when the family holds their tribute/funeral for Prince in August. That would be the best thing ever (next to him just being here with us).

Welcome to "the org", Mumio…they can have you, but I'll have your love in the end nod

Next year's Rock Hall of Fame induction will include an extra-special closing jam session, guaranteed...

If they chose Madonna because she and Prince and MJ dominated that era of music do be it.

What I fear is that she will make it about, not Prince.

That would suck.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I'm not cool with it. Prince is a musician he should be honored by musicians. Why not get his contemporaries and people he worked with to do it. IMO it should be D'angelo, Miguel, Lenny Kravitz and Bruce Springsteen since they respected each other are from the same era and are both amazing band leaders. With Revolution, Sheila E and NPG

The problem with Madonna is not that she will make it about her. I worry that she will make it too much about the old raunchy Prince... Which he obviously would not want

In any case Madonna would not have been my first choice

Bruno Mars, Maxwell, Justin, Adam Levin I would like to something from each of them

I'm just waiting for Pitbull's name to be mentioned next, then pretty much every performer who wasn't even born before Controversy and had nothing to do with Prince will have been mentioned. rolleyes

I am waiting on the BET tribute, it better be all that!!!! Stephen Hill being a major Prince fan has huge task. Plus they have to clean up the Grammy slip up for Natalie Cole(just disrespectful). Madonna will do an ok job if she stays in her lane but most people don't they get emotional and extra{think DAngelo on Jimmy Fallon} I may not watch, have decided yet.

Beautiful, Loved and Blessed

Thank You Prince

Ugh, the horror. Adam Levine, if ever there was a man who personified the opposite of everything Prince stood for in the pop world.

Wow -- you'd think the passing of our great musical hero would improve our collective humanity for the sake of solidarity among those left behind, but here we have lots of petty, intolerant and disrespectful reactions.

Madonna is the only one left among the three major solo artists that defined the eighties. Just for that reason, she is a great choice. Add that they collaborated musically and the fact Prince entertained her whole entourage when they had a party at Paisley Park only months ago, where Prince performed while she looked on admiringly, and you have reasons to believe Prince did not share some of the nasty criticism being posted on this thread.

For the record, I am not a big fan of hers, I just find the reactions narrow minded and dare think Prince himself would find them quite awful.

I am right there with you on that. I still cannot process that he is gone. It doesn't make sense in my world and never will.

I don't think D'Angelo made it about him and watching that makes me cry all over again. He was moved. He lost a friend and it hurt him and you could see it in his playing.

He did good, but too much of his career copycats Prince. Like asking Ready 4 the World to represent Prince.

Instead of D'Angelo, how about D'Georgio?

Ew, no.

All she'll do is make it about herself and butcher his music.

I don't care that they knew each other, that they worked with each other, or that they were contemporaries. She's still not capable of doing a good tribute to him.

Janelle Monae, Solange, and people who worked more closely with Prince would be nice.

Not looking forward to it, I must admit. Just brought back the image of that awful Lady Gaga tribute to Bowie. sad

I dislike Gaga and everything about her, and her using the LGBTQA community to get record sales, and be some false beacon of support. That Bowie "tribute" (I use the word loosely) was rushed, and more about Gaga dressing up like Bowie, than Bowie's genius.

prince

Back to Madge:

yes

It is a perfect choice. She was the perfect choice for MJ,d too. The three of them ruled the 80s, all were born within weeks or months of each other, and one greatly influenced the other. It was a healthy competition among all.

prince

The ill sentiments aren't necessary. We're mourning the greatest musician and songwriter in history. It's not about musicianship or record sales - it's about the man who left too damn soon.

But Gaga is bisexual. And Madonna has done the same thing you're accusing Gaga of.
