Prince obviously thought enough of her to work with her in the 80s so why shouldn't she pay tribute to him? This isn't about being the 'best musician', it's a tribute from one artist to another. Get over yourselves.

The reason I could do without Madonna has nothing to do with her, but more in honor of Prince.

Prince has been vocal (especially lately) about real music by real musicians. In my humble opinion the best way to honor him would be to use those types of people that he was always promoting: The Time, The Revolution, D'Angelo, hell even the Foo Fighters (if you want ratings).

The fact is that the people who are watching Billboards are not tuning in for the Prince Tribute and the people tuning in for the Tribute aren't going to do it because of Madonna, in fact I think more would tune in to see the above mentioned and say - Mint Condition, Shelia E, Stevie etc., as they know they are bands and artist that truly understood his music better than Madonna, One Direction, Justin Beiber etc.

So them using Madonna is a cop out...and in my opinion (and only my opinion) a slap to what Prince has been sayign all along .... Real Music by Real Musicians.

And befor you ask me what is a real musician....well ask Prince, those were his words....but I believe the did speak on The View about those who study music and understand composition, harmonies, etc.

Because of their half-baked mistakes, we get ice cream, no cake; all lies, no truth; is it fair to Kill the YOUTH ~~ Party Up

Let's hope all Madonna will do is a speech (and a speech ONLY) ... I understand why Prince did NOT want to go on tour together with her. Prince was serious about his art, always trying to perfect it, become better ... now watch this RECENT clip, it's ridiculous and beyond pathetic.

Serioiusly? Prince attended Madonna concerts and give high acknowledgement to her in many 1990 interviews

Madonna has always been known to put on high quality concerts.
Prince had his antics too that I could have done without.
So what if she is having fun on her show, she has that right.

Again, my objections is not based on Madonna but on Prince. I would like to see his old bands, who know how the songs should be played and the musicians he sponsored, spoke with, collaborated with, etc. or showed honor to honor him.

Not that Madonna doesn't fit any of those categories (I am sure there are arguments on both sides) but I want more than Let's Go Crazy, Little Red Corvette and Purple Rain. I want to see the music he wrote with The Time, The Family, for Mavis, etc. played.

I would like to see his music come out the box that popular music wants to keep putting him in.

Madonna has known how to play guitar since before she was famous, in the first or second band she was in, she was the bass player. I forget which album or tour, but she played guitar on one of her early 2000's tour also

Lol...cmon man! She is barely a singer.

Well no one said she was good at it! Lol. Just that she knows how. Except for her business sense and ambition, she is basically a mediocre talent

My Prince tribute would include the following artists together on stage in some sort of long musical session honoring Prince and all his different genres of music: Janelle Monae, Esperanza Spalding, Maxwell, Lianne La Havas, Paloma Faith, 3rd Eye Girl, Wendy and Lisa, The Revolution, D'Angelo, Kate Bush, Sade, Chaka Khan, Steve Vai, Gary Clarke Jr., Carlos Santana

.

And what do we get? Someone who playbacks during live concerts and rides around on a tricycle to entertain the masses ... rolleyes

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

It sort of makes sense because Billboard is about music product sales and not about artistry. It's about money, not music. And Madonna was a big profitable "icon" during the 80s and so was Prince.
