because madonna can play a bit of guitar etc doesn't qualify her to pull off a prince tribute... she certainly doesn't have the vocal chops either

to me... if it's going to be one person... the only one worthy is stevie wonder... someone prince admired greatly as a musician... he's a level that prince deserves

if they opened it up to be a multiple musician thing there are a whole bunch of people i can think of

what if she played a song that was simple a ballad on guitar as a tribute to Prince? I mean what are we expecting for a tribute. Madonna at 57 can handle and stick with the dancers in her group, Prince was a dancer too. Stevie couldn't do movements and such.

for me... tributes are fine... from anyone... but when it's someone chosen for an award show, it's different imo.... if madonna did that at her gig... cool... but i don't think she has the musical chops to be chosen under these circumstances

If she just speaks about him it'll be fine. She spoke eloquently about MJ at the VMAs. Hopefully she won't sing. But we'll see.

It makes little sense to me, though I can appreciate the past they shared.

We are assuming this would be a performance though, but it might be a spoken tribute, like Madonna doing an intro before a compilation video (which I am sure she can hold her own with some stories.)

However if she does perform, she is many things but not a multi instrumentalist. I agree, I am not sure she could represent his range of musicality. I don't want it to be commercial, either... & sometimes I find her disingenuous & gratuitous, sure Prince was as well back in the day, but I'm not sure her style would really respect his wishes...

Sorry but anyone who thinks her speech about mj was good is delusional. She kept comparing herself to him , making it all about her. It was nauseating.

Here is what anyone with sense organising the tribute would do .

You have guest performers singing a prince song and go through all the bands. So i'd have d angelo first and you start with 3rd eye girl and work your way back. You make it a 30 min tribute to fit in as many of prince's bands and make it an actualy TRIBUTE. extend the show or take stuff out but madonna is no ' tribute' to someone on prince's level.

Do people not realise it will be ages , if ever, until we see his like again?

Of course people see that - I read something likening him to Shakespeare the other day in terms of what his historical impact and legacy will be which really rang true to me.

I also think Madonna will go down in history too - but not for the same reasons. She's a remarkable woman who has made a huge mark in this world whether you love her or hate her.

However as much as I don't want Madonna to sing Prince at the awards (and I'm a HUGE M fan) the comments about her being the last of the 58r's and the last of the huge juggernaughts of the 80's left IS accurate whether you love her or hate her. In that respect it's right for her to do this in this instance. This being Madonna it's going to get huge press attention whether it's positive or negative.

Her MJ speech was quite self-indulgent BUT I enjoyed her anecdotes about her time spent with him and I adored how she admitted that she along with so many others had been wrong to be negative about him over the years. What do you want her to say? Facts about his life? Personally I want to hear about her personal experiences of Prince and the impact he had on her life and career.

Equally I don't want her to sing Prince music, but Madonna will do as she pleases.

Again, they were 80s superstars together. And when I think of MJs memorial speaches the BEST one Brook Shields!! Because in many ways she did the same thing. She talked about how it was to be young stars dealing with the whole fandom and how the connection gave a parrelled insight into MJ the human
.
Madonna humanized MJ the same way. It was personal. It wasn't some mechanical; this is what Michael Jackson did and go on to list achievements. When my cousin passed away 2 years ago, her memorial started out cold to me, it was a reading it was an uncle who preached at us/her because he couldn't express his feelings for his niece. But when the friends got up that is whent the water works began to pour, they talked about how she touched them throught the time they knew her, they talked about how they were affected and changed. They cried. That was when I saw my cousin in a way I did not know her.

.

@ Whitney Houstons memorial, all the preaching and stuff made me upset. The best speach was Kevin Costner. He talked about a side of Whitney he knew come up as 'preachers kids' he talked about his need for her to play the role in Bodyguard, he talked as much about himself as he did Whitney. And that made it touchable. That made it human. I didn't need to watch it anymore after Kevin was done.

There'll be plenty of tributes during the next year or so, Madonna certainly deserves to do at least one of them ... not only because she's the last one remaining from the 80's Big Three, but also because she was a longtime friend who worked with him and dated him. It's a no-brainer that she gets to do one tribute.

I agree. Prince did like n respect her. Yes, she may be light on talent but she does have artistic vision and, if anything, she has always strived to better herself and worked her ass off to get where she is.

If we're being truly honest, almost none of Prince's female proteges could even carry a musical note.

Madonna is Prince's only peer in the industry right now. NO, she is absolutely not as talented as he was, not even close, but she is a FAR more commercially successful performer.

So just wait and see what happens. We might be blown away on Sunday.

Ummm.. almost none? If you've got a selective attention span perhaps. At least a quarter or more of them could.

My Prince tribute would include the following artists together on stage in some sort of long musical session honoring Prince and all his different genres of music: Janelle Monae, Esperanza Spalding, Maxwell, Lianne La Havas, Paloma Faith, 3rd Eye Girl, Wendy and Lisa, The Revolution, D'Angelo, Kate Bush, Sade, Chaka Khan, Steve Vai, Gary Clarke Jr., Carlos Santana

.

And what do we get? Someone who playbacks during live concerts and rides around on a tricycle to entertain the masses ... rolleyes

If any of his bands perform they should just do instrumentals and backing vocals without his God or guitar... That is what it sounds like when the doves cry. That would be a tribute... If everyone just shut up and listened to the silence the world has without him. It would be sad but totally capture the essence of what we have lost. God... this is the worst. Its just the Billboard tribute. Seriously, get over it already. There can n will b other tributes with other people honoring him. Enough picking on n trashing Madonna. Now, i havent been a fan of her or her music in over 20 yrs but i think she is the appropriate choice. Unless u were alive n old enough to remember the 80s then i dont expect u to get it. Her, Mj n Prince were all born within 3 months of each other and became the hugest pop stars of the 80s..Prince n Madonna pushed the envelope with their sexuality n public persona.. I kind of doubt shes gonna try n seriously perform any of his music so just chill n go with it.

The Queen of Pop will pay homage to another member of music royalty, Prince, at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. Organizers announced today that Madonna's participation in what promises to be one of the highlights of this year's BBBWs. The legendary has-been will pay tribute to someone she last collaborated with 27 years ago by joining The Weeknd in the first of at least eight duets to be performed that evening.

.

Madonna & The Weeknd - Push It Up

Justin Bieber & Celine Dion - Jughead

DNCE & Fifth Harmony - Graffiti Bridge

The Go-Gos & Shawn Mendes - 1999: The New Master

Britney Spears & Nick Jonas - Right The Wrong

Troye Sivan & Tove Lo - FunkNRoll (Kirky J & Joshua W's Epic Fail Mix)

Pink & Demi Lovato - The Flow

Ciara & Ludacris - Wedding Feast

Larry Graham & Tyka Nelson - Sister (Uncut Extended Version)

.

This year's god awful ceremony will air live at 8PM EST on Sunday May 22 from the TMobile Arena in Sin City. Bought and paid for awards will be thrown randomly at the audience by the supremely talented Ludacris and Ciara.

Ha Ha - A good one lol I skipped the first paragraph and went to the list. All while reading the list, I'm thinking why these songs lol I knew it was a joke when I got to the last item in the list. lol lol lol lol

Exactly what would that be? None of those people.............including the ONE with Real Talent should be doing a tribute to Prince. That B.S. u are insinuating has nothing to do with race.

For me it's really sad how hateful and disrespectful everyone is towards Madonna. Prince Madonna and Mj changed my life. The world would not be the same without their music and social awareness for justice, love, freedom, and compassion. They had a connection and she is the only one of the music trinity left. Prince respected madonna, Madonna respected prince and that is all that matters. The rest of u haters can all gett off!
I'm done with being nice, my idols are dead and I hate this evil hateful world! I don't have to like it either! Nor put up with ignorance from so called prince fans. Not prince fans in my heart.
