Storming in Ohio... I truly don't ever recall purple like this before. And it's happening in many places around the world.

Severe thunderstorm warning for some

I just made the mistake of watching the 20/20 special. It's so stupid. And the host asked everyone to tweet their favorite song with a hashtag. FUCK YOU, EVERYONE ASKING FOR "YOUR FAVORITE PRINCE SONG". I would have done it every day before that sad fucking day & would have made compelling arguments for a rotating cast of songs. But I'm not your monkey and I'm not playing your stupid game. This isn't a throwaway to me. This is my life, and my heart is breaking.

DON"T WATCH THE MEDIA BS! I haven't watched one media event nor read much on-line. Prince means to you, what you let him mean. Don't let "THEM" destroy what you already knew in your heart; that is how the legacy of Prince will continue. I loved Prince's music a long, long time ago...before there was an internet and I knew absolutely nothing about his life. So, that will continue with me. But Prince only means to you, what you want him to....

It's just so fake and stupid.

Honestly the only thing that surprised me and made me smile was that jamie starr photo floating around.

I'm annoyed by the bandwagon jumpers too. Now all of a sudden everybody wants to tell me how awesome Prince was but when I tried to talk about him while he was alive they couldn't be bothered to check him out.

And the ones who just want to talk about the tabloid stories.... talk to the hand

In fairness this generation didn't know who Prince was, nor how incredibly talented he was. That was an major mistake Prince made by removing all of his music from the web. Now this gen sees how amazing Prince was, which is why he's dominating all music charts at the moment. I try not to judge the new comers harshly in retrospect.

100% this. If his history was more accessible on YouTube for today's generation his ridiculously major presence and contribution would be a part of their lives. I remember his eighties videos when they were released and the hoo-ha around a new album but those are my memories.

Anyway, just to say that people have talked to me about songs they never realise he wrote and performances they've seen online - that they love them. It's kind of a comfort. I just wish he hadn't had to die to get the recognition he deserved. That's human nature though. While MJ was alive, during his latter years, it was all gossip about this and that. As soon as he passed it was all forgotten and the press celebrated his music again.

My photo with the prince mural in Sydney has been shared by the source. The artist is trying to get approval to do a five storey piece in Minneapolis. Hope it happens! Having this gem so close to home has been a source of great comfort to me.

Again, you guys aren't reading what I actually wrote. If you go back and read you will see than I'm only talking about people I personally know and talk to, not generations in general. Just to clarify my circle is people in their 40s and 50s, not the younger generation. Why would I criticize people who weren't even born?

I'm also not talking about the people who called to check on me and offer words of support. To be clear, I am referring to people who all they had to say to me when Prince was alive was that he was too weird/gay but now they wanna call me and yap like old church ladies gossipping over the fence because they read something in the tabloids.

If they simply didn't care for his music I was fine with that, but don't call me because all of a sudden the media says it's okay to like Prince? No thanks.

All the media and those that weren't true fans, know about Prince is the song "Purple Rain". It's all you see and hear, and it makes me want to scream at them that he was so much more than just Purple Rain, but then I think, at least they are learning of him, even if it is only Purple Rain.

Yesterday evening my 8y old son said he was dreaming that he could get a Purple box with a book, CD and t-shirt -like the fans got outside PP- 4 my fathersday.

So sweet, I may never get that box but it's just like I got one from my son.

And it shows he knows how his dead touches me, he saw my tears as I was watching the evening news on that day.

Like Mary Sharon after Christopher's death, we have to hold on.
I still shed a tear from time to time, because of the unfairness of it all.
But tears also come from the beauty of Prince's path, his strong will and faith.

"God Is Alive", "With Love There Is No Death", in short all of Skipper's views on life and the afterworld have become part of my soul a long time ago.

What he stood for, I made it my own, even if I left some things aside (I understand the message, but I still think that "The Universe is me" is a little off). I never understood the JW and all the intolerance it brought to the table, especially from the man who made an album with such universal ambitions as "Lovesexy". Even the Club, all of sudden Prince and his music were only for the chosen few. I cannot judge him for that, I'm pretty sure Boy Gregory's death hit him way harder than we suspect. He needed to be part of a community.

One of the major things I owe to Prince besides the art, is faith reaffirmation in times of trouble.
In many ways, his artistic expression was proof that God exists.

I don't think Skipper saw God as a talent dispenser ("let's see, who am I going to bless this century?"), but more like a promise : "If you trust me unconditionally, I'll give you what you're asking for".

Prince's trust in God was in the way he worked, day after day after day after night.
This is not a sterile faith, it's something that requires work, and much love and patience to be able to sustain it for so long.
God's payback? The moments of trance, those rare and brief moments where Prince was invested with Grace and the Blue Angel was a sword cutting through dullness and mediocrity.
When I say "rare and brief", it's only because I want to resist the temptation of saying that everything was pretty fabulous. It was, but sometimes the great would become magic.

He left a lot of Gospel to hang on to. "Love Thy Will B Done" in Paris 1998 is one of these extatic moments. Small Club's "Just My Imagination" too, and some other usual suspects.

His faith is so strong, it's infectious.
He cures my sadness. He gives me strength.

And I have this suspicion that Skipper always will.

The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter
No Child's a failure
Until the Blue Sailboat sails him away from his dreams
Don't Ever Lose, Don't Ever Lose
Don't Ever Lose Your Dreams

I dare say your son just gave you a gift far greater than the purple box...

Wrote this for another site the day after, I figured I'd paste it here... I was torn up at first. Then I got drunk with friends, watched Purple Rain on Vh1 while reciting the lines and singing the songs. Then I went to the club parking lot by myself. Drank a beer, looked out the sunroof at the stars and listened to the 1999 album as LOUD as what was in my cigar. I realized how much I got from him. How he shaped my politics with Ronnie Talk To Russia, Controversy and Pop Life, my Christianity by mixing sensuality with spirituality and he dipped my style in Cool and made me the Sexy Motherfucker I am today. He's the god and the man and teaches you how to best intertwine the two with sex and love. He'd love this shit. How every channel has a package on his career and how the coverage has eclipsed the death of other stars even as broadcasters mention them in the same breath in order to encompass the breadth of his magnitude. The elevator took him down and now the world is resplendent in his royal color from the Eiffel Tower to Niagra Falls. He died as pretty as he ever was while escaping the ravages of time. That's a feat worthy of any legend, though he'd been one for thirty years. It's the end of an era but not the end of an icon or his ideas. The music never dies.

I believe in God. I look at the signs from the rainbow above Paisley to the purple storms and snows as a good sign of someone or something trying to communicate to those left here. I believe in things that can't be seen, but felt... in a higher power (God) and for me those signs are a great comfort. I stay away from the media as much as possible. You never can draw out actual truth from most of it, because it's too tainted with heresay, gossip and lies, most of which have been purposely included to entice the listener into staying "tuned". Like most, I prefer to listen to the multitude of messages within the music from the actual person... untainted... truth.
