The new Bilal is better than this song though, as much as I like it.

Thanks for the heads up on THAT, I didn't know about the new Bilal. Looking forward to giving it a spin! wink

It's amazing.

It's just like prince to tease us with a COMPLETELY different "Masterpiece", than the forthcoming funk classic "Stare". D'angelo wish he can b this prolific... biggrin

How can one human being b this brilliant 4 over 35 YEARS!!! Also it's a prince ONE-MAN-BAND PRODUCTION.

I still don't think you have a grasp of the meaning of "masterpiece". The word is used to describe an artists best piece of work. Not a good or even great piece of work, but, specifically, his BEST piece of work. How can every single recording be his masterpiece? Please pick a different word that more accurately desribes your enthusiasm. Pretty please, sugar on top, all that... wink

Can't you shut up already about this or that artist being better than Prince. Either its Bilal or D'angelo or whoever. Why don't you go hang out on their boards.

I do! But I just talk about Prince on their forums.

I hear drum sounds in this song that sound a lot like the drums in "Amazing" by Kanye West. I believe they are taiko drums. Maybe it is just me.

The more i listen to it the more i like it. It really sounds something genuinely different from prince. even though to me, there doesnt seem that many different instruments or elements to it. Is kinda simple but really effective at the same time. I dont know, i carnt explain it. Which is a good thing to me!

Here we have the same situation as all new stuff prince drops, folks listen to half the song, come here to bash it, then a month later after 3 listens, the "HARDCORELOVER is growin on me" posts start to appear. If I had a dime for everytime his has hapened........

Give the songs a few listen folks, give them time to perculate, give them time for your mind to recognize the patterns and the beats.

Peace

You'd be a pauper concerning me. I'm an - either I like on first listen or I don't - type person. If I don't like it on first listen, more listens don't change my mind and more likely than not only make me discover more reasons of why I didn't like it in the first place. razz

Hm... #different. But is it pleasing? Not sure. Cool atmosphere, nice build, and I definitely like storytelling in a song. But the lyrics seem a little corny, with some fairly dated concepts. I feel like only handful of people, including the fictional protagonist of this song, are really loving hard rock these days. Maybe I'm just agreeing with the "life in a bubble" comment, up the thread a bit. Maybe I should have had my coffee first. Is it better with coffee?

Life in the bubble Its his life as a rock star which none of us are. If you have been to a show, ladies damn near orgasm when he plays a solo..shrugs

Plenty of rockstars can relate on a "regular" life level. It's just hard to listen to a guy in his 50s talk about strawberries and whipped cream.

Yes I mean just go and listen to one of the streaming prince radio stations for a while and you forget just how many, and different sounding songs prince has written. So to still be sending out different kinds of sounds etc is pretty mindblowing really.

very good point. This song dosen't sound like anything he's ever done or anything else i've heard by any artists.

I'm hearing it. I was actually thinking of LL Cool J's Doin' It, but I guess he got it from Grace Jones.

Yeah doesn't sound finished to me... Maybe I need another listen but based on the comments I expected a better "song". Not saying it was terrible at all ....just saying I expected something that sounded more finished

I bet this is the song he gave to Rhianna

How has WBR approved these releases and musical teases? What is going on with The MEGA WBR secret deal???

I don't think WBR has a say in what Prince releases with who or when. It's hard to say if they are even still working together.

I kind of feel similarly. It cool. I like it. It's exciting. But something sounds 'off' about it but I can't put a finger on it or even point in the general direction....maybe its the above....

V10LETBLUES

Great track. Love the crazy guitar hook. I don't know what people are talking about when they mention bad production, I think it's far more nuanced and grown up than the the cheefest production on AOC.

Anyway I really like the track. Unlike his last album where I would be embarrassed being caught listening to any of the tracks playing in my car,..this one makes the cut.
