There seems to be a lot of haters of this album.

But. From MPLSound I really like:

Dance 4 Me
U're Gonna C Me
Here
Valentina
Better With Time
Ol' Skool Company

I like these songs as much as I like songs on Lotusflow3r.... woot!

Valentina's my SHIT! I Love that track. Hypnotic Latin feel with a seering geetar solo...all while imagining Selma's tetas. I mean...heaven? No? [Edited 6/24/15 18:52pm]

MPLSound is far superior to Lotusflow3r to me. I love every song on that album. I love your reasoning for liking Valentina! Every time I hear that line about her tat tats images of Hayek's tits in my mouth overwhelm me!!!

I'm glad Warner Bros. said no to the 3 Disc Crystal Ball album, the Camile and Dream Factory albums. I've seen so many configurations of these albums and the released SOTT seems to be the best version that could've been put out.

Vanity is not talented! Never was and never will be. ------- I have no problems with Tony M. -----------------Not a fan of the fro either, although I understand it's probably a lot easier for him to manage---------I agree that his taste in women is not too good and it's sad because he could be married to a lovely woman and have kids by now if he wasn't such a wanker in the department.

I agree with this.I think the 2-LP SOTT album is perfect the way it is.

Where does your taste differ from most other Prince fans'? I can think of two which apply to me: -'We Can Funk' does nothing for me, whereas I know a lot of people here love it. -I think 'Come' is a lot better than 'The Gold Experience'. Obviously these aren't the most contoversial opinions in the world (I'm not saying 'Planet Earth' is better than 'Purple Rain' for example), but I'm interested to know what ideas you have about Prince that get people jumping down your throat.

We Can Funk is an amazing song, under rated by many people on here.

TGE has great songs, but as an album overall it sounds dated, over produced, and very corny compared to Come... IMO Come has stood the test of time much better than TGE, while during back when Come and TGE were released, TGE got all the apraise and Come was just side lined and ignored...

IKR? But the 'fro in the pic is the artist's interpretation, which I happen to like. If Prince's 'fro actually looked like that, I'd be cool with it, but sadly it does not and that's the problem. lol

I stated this one many years ago, and I still believe it:

I believe Prince "leaked" the Black Album on purpose with the intention of it becoming a bootleg. (This opinion borders on being a conspiracy theory).

I think The Black Album only helped to promote Lovesexy, and Lovesexy very very much helped promote The Black album. The Lovesexy tourbook is practically an ad for the Black album, and that "hidden" message in the Alphabet Street video (don't buy the black album, I'm sorry) was some reverse psychology. If he really didn't want people to hear that album or buy it, he wouldn't have mentioned it so prominantly on tour, even singing Bob George throughout.

But the biggest "clue" was in the first track (My namesake "Le Grind") After searching everywhere for this hard-to-find (at the time) bootleg, the first thing the listener is greeted with is Prince saying :

"So you finally found it. Good. I'm glad" eek

And remember, this is an artist who used lots of fake names (Alexander Nevermind, Jaimie Starr, Joey Coco) and even sped up his voice and attributed it to "Camille" and eventually went by and unpronounceable symbol. And if The Black Album was reallly such an evil record he didn't want anyone to hear, he never would have let WB go ahead and put it out years later.

To me, Prince's Black Album stunt is one of his most impressive and imaginative. It was at the time, and might still be, the most famous bootleg of all time

I don't think Prince comes off as a very intelligent person, at least in the stereotypical "book smarts" sense. He may have a philosophical mind, but there are many times when he seems a little dumb.

I think he is more of an idealist and an artist---which can make him seem really naive about a lot of things. I think "intelligent" might be the wrong word. I mean, he is considered a musical genius (Ray Charles is also called The Genius) but, as you said, that isn't the same as book smarts. Artists tend to be idealistic and that can make them seem almost simple in many ways.

I do think he is easily swayed. I certainly thought he was much more intellectual prior to Larry Graham's religious influence.

Emancipation is his best album of the 90s

New Power Soul is good.

I think Lovesexy is ok. Black Album is much better.

Symbol is one of his worst albums.

Like Sign o the Times the way it is. All the songs work where they are and Its Gonna Be a Beautiful Night is a great song.

Don't think Prince had some master plan for TBA. Reportedly some copies went undestroyed (promo copies, boxes of product ready to be shipped). Prince incurred a substantial cost to stop the album release at the last minute (he wouldn't have let TBA get that far in the manufacturing/distribution process on purpose). And if this was some brilliant marketing scheme, then Prince could have chosen to release the album and easily capitalize on sales of TBA at that time (which he saw be bootlegged an estimated 500,000 copies).

.

It's not so much that Prince was that bothered by the album itself, altogether, but he reportedly had an experience at that time, an epiphany, whatever... and Prince apparently associated TBA as being related to that experience and, therefore, something to disassociate from. That's really the only explanation for why Prince canceled TBA. The material on the TBA itself is really not that offensive.

I really enjoy listening to Animal Kingdom. I can ignore the lyrics and just enjoy the music and melody of the vocals, there is some lovely guitar work in this song and I think it is the best track of the The Truth album.

you all are posting the popular opinion of this album, which is not so hot in most Prince fan's opinions on the org. But for this thread, about personal unpopular opinions, I'm saying just the opposite, it is his strongest most cohesive interesting all the way through album for me. The Black Album that is.

Are you kidding? biggrin The Black Album is loved by most fans.Whenever we do those 'Lovesexy vs.TBA' threads,TBA always seems to get the most love.

All the years I've been on here it seems like people worshipped Lovesexy way more than The Black Album. Check a ranking survey on here, there's got to be one handy... you know, rank the 80's albums or something like that.

"Adore" is the most overrated Prince song in history. Yep, from 1976 - 2015, there has not been one song in the fandom as overrated as "Adore"

I could not care less that Prince plays oldies during performances. I have loved all the oldies from the 70s on and still love them today. If he plays some new songs, cool, if he doesn't, that's cool too!
