(CNN)Moved by the unrest in Baltimore, singer-songwriter Prince has recorded a song critical of the killing of young African-American men, a publicist for the artist said Thursday.It is a tribute to the people of Baltimore but will also address political and social issues throughout the country.


Prince's Paisley Park Studios has not yet announced a release date.

This sounds interesting.

I'm not fully sure of whats been going on though, did some people want to organise a protest against the killing of a black man by a police officer and the mayor was like "yea do it" and then it got out of control?

I don't pay a lot of attention to the news lol.

All I saw was some dude dressed as MJ dancing to beat it on twitter and I thought that was cool.

S.S.T./Brand New Orleans was a definite social reaction song.

yeah, and we know how many people listened to that one..........but good for Prince.............Baltimore needs some love right about now and it is not just about Freddie..........it is about the state of black youth in the entire country, especially men (not just about cops either)

I think after the CNN announcement Prince got 24h to get this song premiered otherwise there'll be purple riots.

Good for Prince recording it...let's hear it. Let's see what sort of lyrics he comes up with when moved and inspired...

There are protests going on in Baltimore over Freddie Gray's death in the hands of police. Protests also have been taking place in NYC, Minneapolis, DC, Philadelphia and Cincinnati, Ohio so far. A larger protest will be held this weekend in Baltimore. About 10,000 expected as some reports stated earlier this week.
