Uh, there must be more song lyrics than these:

BALTIMORE
lyrics by Prince
NPG RECORDS, copyright 2015

NOBODY GOT IN NOBODY'S WAY
SO EYE GUESS U COULD SAY
IT WAS A GOOD DAY
AT LEAST A LITTLE BETTER THAN THE DAY IN BALTIMORE

DOES ANYBODY HEAR US PRAY?
4 MICHAEL BROWN OR FREDDIE GRAY PEACE IS MORE THAN THE ABSENCE OF WAR
ABSENCE OF WAR

R WE GONNA C ANOTHER BLOODY DAY?
WE'RE TIRED OF CRYIN' & PEOPLE DYIN'
LET'S TAKE ALL THE GUNS AWAY

ABSENCE OF WAR- U AND ME
MAYBE WE CAN FINALLY SAY
ENUFF IS ENUFF IT'S TIME 4 LOVE

IT'S TIME 2 HEAR,
IT'S TIME 2 HEAR

THE GUITAR PLAY! (guitar solo)

"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

This is not a fully developed song at all from reading the lyrics. Even I would throw these lyrics away. Doesn't make me very hopeful about the music... sad

I have a feeling this is not going to be good. He should just do a tribute concert in Baltimore or something. He could open with "We March" and close with "Let's Go Crazy" and then people could spill out into the streets literally going crazy and setting the town on fire one more time.

Protests also have been taking place in NYC, Minneapolis, DC, Philadelphia and Cincinnati, Ohio so far. A larger protest will be held this weekend in Baltimore. About 10,000 expected as some reports stated earlier this week.

Aah fair enough. I saw some report saying they'd been letting animals out from the nearby Zoo but I don't know if that was true or not. Sounds crazy.

no. Not true. National news is all about selling ads and stright up making up bullshit.

No you are wrong. Neil Young wrote the song Ohio in reaction to the Kent State killings as soon as it hit the news. Prince is not the first musician to react to national events. You are blinded by your obsessive love for Prince and your ignorance of history. That said I think its good to see musicians dealing with real issues and not just love songs about pancakes. Kudos to Prince.

shhhh. there ARE no other musicians as far as this dude is concerned - dont burst his bubble - lord knows what he will do.

Basically fans have to wait for Jay-Z to answer Prince's call to stream "Baltimore" on TIDAL. Why not go to iTunes and release it that way. It'll be quicker and will get highest exposure while the story is in the headlines for the moment.

If P would just compose a WELL-WRITTEN song in protest and sing it the way he did "Free" on the B'day 1984 boot...

how far into social politics he can really go

Like someone else said a Baltimore concert, but then how much would he charge and who would be able to attend. Would he be willing to break form and do songs that could bring people together as well reflect the whole of the situation black white poor rich etc

Very much looking forward to hearing "Baltimore", despite the tragic circumstances that inspired Prince to write it. Does my heart good when I see him serving as a positive example to fellow artists, by using his platform to make a statement in a display of compassion and conscience. heart

.

I'm digging the artwork, too. Very cool.

I'd prefer he chose Baltimore as his next hit-n-run stop. The song lyrics aren't cringe worthy as I was expecting, so that's a good start.

Wish he'd do something as good as Nina Simone's "Baltimore". Looking forward to hearing it though. I won't be purchasing tidal for that shit though.. As someone posted above, just put it on iTunes.. keep it simple.

Change it one more time..

Even though Eye'm sure the track is brilliant! Eye wish prince would have recorded "Baltimore" as a one-man band. Eye prefer him in the studio that way...NOONE attacks an instrument like him

But the inviting of the press in attendance was thoughtful. Plus eye'm sure the guitar solo is smoking!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are the lyrics so far according to the news link posted on this thread. I just copied and pasted. If Prince is going to write a song about the tragic situation in Baltimore, his lyrics and music should reflect his disturbance, turbulance, and response in a way that is more than a throw-away media statement--that is not his history and it shouldn't be now (with the exception of Purple & Gold LOL). Just my opinion.

Jill Jones posted a link on FB (I can't copy and paste on the org) that has more complete information about the song and the recording of it. Very interesting. He also talked about Joni's health problems and had tears in his eyes while discussing her. It's on myfoxtwincities.com. Wish I could share the link but it doesn't work for me.
