I haven't seen anyone on this thread say they want him to express the lyrics in an angry or aggressive manner. I've read where some have said that they wonder if he would take it to an edge, like he has in many of his political songs, without the sugarcoat, which doesn't mean being aggressive or angry, other than getting straight to the point about the issue, like in 'Dreamer' and 'Colonized mind'. I mean it is bold enough in his 'Baltimore' song he mentioned Mike Brown's name with Freddie Gray's in the song, and some took an issue with that already, but it is what it is, so basically, he already took it to the edge without aggression or anger and steered the rest of the lyrics in the direction of peace and calm, but yeah it has sort of a political tone so far. I like the guitar playing, but it's all a bit pretty, isn't it? Not what I was expecting and the back-up singer doesn't really do anything for the song.

I actually kind of like it. I'm glad it's not somber in tone. Considering the iffy lyrics, I think uptempo was the right way to go. Also, the harmonies are really gorgeous.

This is really odd. A so-so song by an artist who hasn't had a hit in ages, being released on a music service that costs twice as much as other services, and seems like it was still-born out of the box (though this may change in the future, I don't see it doing so now). Had Prince wanted this to reach the masses, he would have released it on iTunes and Spotify (and quite honestly, made a better song).

This was actually released in 1972, and it was also on his 1988 Live in Europe album.

The song sounds like something that would play on Sesame Street or a DVD for kids. Sorry, but the oppression faced by racialized minorities in a capitalist patriarchy deserve better than a trite message of "Can't we all just get along?"

BALTIMORE - Reclusive rocker Prince took the stage in Baltimore on Sunday evening in a "Rally 4 Peace" concert in response to the death of a 25-year-old man of injuries suffered in police custody and the riots that followed, telling the crowd: "We are here for you."

The Grammy-winning musician, appearing at Royal Farms Arena along with his backing band 3RDEYEGIRL, performed such hits as "Raspberry Beret" as well as a new song called "Baltimore" which he dedicated to the city.

"We are here for you tonight," he said.

A statement released by the venue earlier this week promised other "superstar guests" at the concert.

A promotional image for the show urged attendees to "wear something gray," in apparent reference to Freddie Gray, who died in a Baltimore hospital a week after his arrest on April 12.

Gray's death became the latest flashpoint in a national outcry over police killings of unarmed black men and other minority groups in the United States, and provoked weeks of protests punctuated by a day of riots, arson and looting in the city on April 27.

Days later Baltimore's chief prosecutor announced charges against all six police officers involved in Gray's arrest, ranging from misconduct in office to second degree murder.

Prince released "Baltimore" on Sunday ahead of the concert, which features performer Eryn Allen Kane and includes a mention of Gray.

Though Gray was not killed by a gunshot wound it also urges: "Let's take all the guns away."
