It's not going to be political at all.
Prince is coming from a spiritual perspective, not a Black political perspective -he's never been there.
The Cross, Uptown, Paisley Park, Party Up, Love Sign etc 20Ten that's where he will come from

Colonized Mind? Dreamer? Did he not mention police brutality, racial profiling, and MLK Jr. in 'Dreamer'? Not to mention the lyrics start off as "Eye was born & raised on the same plantation
in the united states of the red, white and blue " Sounds political to me. I mean come on, he referred to the U.S. as a plantation. Not like he was lying given the history...lol.

I am wondering if he will take the 'Baltimore' song to that point. We shall see.

Hold up... the funniest thing to come out of this latest Prince interview is that Prince is drinking alkaline water? biggrin That's almost as comical as his chemtrails argument.

One thing about Prince the last 20 years or so: if there is an ignorant idea, or a bullshit cause he will find it and stick to it like glue. Trayvon Martion was an actual tragedy. The two situations, referenced in the Prince song, not so much.

Honestly, my heart goes out to the good people of Baltimore who are victimized first by the Freddie Grays in their community, then by the ignorant kids who revel in lawlessness, and then finally by the media narcissists and celebrity opportunists. The 1%-ers who put on t-shirts, sing songs and wave for the cameras, because this is a 'I-was-there-when moment'. At the end of the day, they hop private jets and return to their mansions, Bentleys, and privileged upper-class lifestyles. The poor in Baltimore will still be broke, busted and disgusted when the dust settles, the sun comes up and they've burned down what little they had. The dopeman will CONTINUE find refuge in their communities, pimp their daughters and terrorize their daily lives.

They can burn Baltimore back to the stone-age, but poverty isn't going away anytime soon. If anything, it's spreading. Jesus said the poor will be with you ALWAYS. And Baltimore is just the latest example of a Black society, deifying a thug and community cancer (Tupac, anyone?). Fix whatever you want with law enforcement but nothing will change becaue the reality is that there isn't enough personal accountability in black communities. Impoverished is one thing. Impoverished and violent is an American-Black thing. Until that changes we ain't ever getting ahead.

Anyway, like many things Prince, 80's Prince did it better. "A Place In Heaven" has the best line for Baltimore, and it's a mindset that you know Prince himself truly believes. When I was a poor black child living just enough for the city, lol, these Prince lyrics regularly popped into my head when I went to school: "Life's what you make it, stop whining baby(stop whining baby)/It's all up to me and you". Prince ain't gonna tell Baltimore that, because he knows they don't want to hear it. In fact that's what all successful African-Americans do. We bounce up out the hood because we know the people there don't WANT to be successful, and will take out dreams DOWN with them if we let them. So... Prince can pretend to give a shit, but reality is he really don't and... you kind of know which of his women is feeding him this garbage. Can we move on, Prince? You can tell already the song is bad, but it's always entertaining when Prince summons the press.

Once again, creating stories claiming to know what all people are thinking and feeling.

Do you act out these make believe scenes in the dark by yourself with dialogue? lol

With a little help...blunt absolut weed

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

What followed was an unexpected and improvised version of the Waterboys hit, “The Whole of The Moon”.

Following a lively call and response period with the crowd, at Prince's behest a young woman walked to the front of the stage and began singing her heart out.

That woman was Detroit-born, Chicago-based Eryn Allen Kane, a singer who was invited to Paisley Park to record vocals on the new song “Baltimore.”

Contrary to reports that it was completed last week, Prince is taking time with the song to make it very special.

Fittingly, the live set ended with Prince inviting the audience into a communal chant of “Baltimore… Peace 4 ever more.”

Oh yeah, that one too. If the song is about Baltimore, then I can't see how it won't be political. It is likely it may touch on the current societal ills, like police brutality, protests, etc., at least with the mention of M. Brown, and F. Gray's names specifically in the song , in which their incidents were what jumpstarted the protests and brought national attention to the police vs the Black community situation, so I would think that's what the song's focus may be about. We shall see.

BALTIMORE -
Music superstar Prince will be headlining a special Rally 4 Peace concert on Mother's Day in Baltimore.

Sunday's concert will be held at the Royal Farms Arena and the funk-rock group 3RDEYEGIRL will also be performing. LiveNation also says other industry superstars are expected to attend.

“In a spirit of healing, the event is meant to be a catalyst for pause and reflection following the outpouring of violence that has gripped Baltimore and areas throughout the US," said in the concert announcement release by LiveNation.

Those attending the concert are being asked to wear something gray in tribute “to all those recently lost in the violence.”

Prince recently recorded a protest song called “Baltimore” following the death of 25-year old Freddie Gray and is a tribute to all of the people of Baltimore.

Tickets will go on sale Wednesday at 5 p.m. EST. A portion of the proceeds will benefit local Baltimore-based youth charities.

For more information, go to www.livenation.com.
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Remember there is only one destination and that place is U
All of it. Everything. Is U.

I think it's sad that there is so much negativity about Prince no matter what he does or what he says he is human not perfect and he is not going to please us all the time! He is here to entertain us nothing more his personal life is his own his business decision is his own regardless of what we as fans think about it. Fans only concern is that Prince creates and performs for us nothing more! It's his choice to do it the way he wants to if fans don't like it that's to bad! We really don't know everything that goes on behind the scenes of this mans business and personal life and how it affects him and I believe that he is hurt and disgusted by all the negativity that is being said! Haters and speculators you should be ashamed of yourself you have not walked in his shoes and you don't know the condition of his heart or his emotional state! LEAVE PRINCE ALONE!!!!!

So all that wiping eyes and being near tears talk was just more of the same ol' bullshit?

.

Maybe that was the initial reaction/emotion while recording the song "live as it happens"...

It'll be interesting to see how much is left of that initial recording when it's released.

With the announced concert Prince is making a statement he's moved by the ongoing Baltimore events.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit local Baltimore-based youth charities...well that's nice.

In the meantime though, while we wait with bated breath to hear this "COMPLETE Masterpiece" ...check this out:

http://www.essence.com/20...ocumentary

Nina Simone's 1978 cover of Randy Newman's "Baltimore" is still celebrated as one of the most beautiful pieces of social commentary. Fast forward 37 years and the song, and conditions in Baltimore, still apply.

ESSENCE Festival alum Jazmine Sullivan covers the sublime protest song for the Netflix documentary What Happened, Miss Simone (out June 26). Sullivan’s cover will be featured in a tribute album accompanying the documentary. Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill, Simone's daughter Lisa, and Common will also be featured. Listen in!

Yeah, I mean it isn't a song Prince wrote

Baltimore is social commentary, with utopian spiritual 'let's all come 2gether' intentions
Some people want Prince to be angry and aggressive with this, but that isn't who he is
I want to hear the guitar solo, he might put some of it through that

I haven't seen anyone on this thread say they want him to express the lyrics in an angry or aggressive manner. I've read where some have said that they wonder if he would take it to an edge, like he has in many of his political songs, without the sugarcoat, which doesn't mean being aggressive or angry, other than getting straight to the point about the issue, like in 'Dreamer' and 'Colonized mind'.
I mean it is bold enough in his 'Baltimore' song he mentioned Mike Brown's name with Freddie Gray's in the song, and some took an issue with that already, but it is what it is, so basically, he already took it to the edge without aggression or anger and steered the rest of the lyrics in the direction of peace and calm, but yeah it has sort of a political tone so far. We shall see what the final lyrics will offer.

Ugh! I grew up in the church, so Prince, as far as I'm concerned, is preaching to the choir. Because who doesn't know that getting along is best! Who in Baltimore doesn't know that? And just because you want peace doesn't mean you cannot be angry that it isn't there yet. I wanted Prince to sound like he knows that pease is not so simple.
