I don't know why people assume that those who don't like this want another Purple Rain. PR isn't even in my top tier. And I can hate this track on the merits - not because I'm looking for a rehash of something else.

You may not, but I can't count the times I've read that he's not the same as he used to be, he used to be groundbreaking, what happened to the dude that wrote PR and SOTT. I wish people would just listen to a new track and like or dislike it for what IT is without some preconceived notion of what they think it's SHOULD be. It's really not fair.

I just want to say that if you're waiting on a ground breaking, soul changing Prince record, you're not gonna get that now so don't hold him to the standard he set 30 years ago. Prince is not wasting his talent, he already gave us the best music anyone could from 1978-1994. 'U know' is certainly not the worst thing he's ever done and not the best, it's a simple sample with good, catchy vocals that made me move.

dont forget that a lot of the reviews you will be reading are written by youngsters whose exposure to P will be back when they were very young / school age. Therefore they are listening through non biased younger ears rather than hardcore old ears like mine & yours! For P that's a really good thing. Now, if they would just sort out the marketing!

Frustrating for all the reasons I mentioned. I respect the opinions of others, I just hate that it's always so negative. I know that I'm not big on jazz, therefore I know that this new project that's possibly coming up I might not appreciate. I will , however, appreciate the fact that it is result of their hard work and respect them enough not to tear them apart for using too many horns or some stupid shit. Admittedly, the autotune is annoying and I wish he hadn't used it, but he did and it's not my place to say he's wrong for it. It's his song..

In the ten pages of this thread, I haven't seen a single comment like that. I have, however, seen a lot of people who like this song accusing those who don't of a) being old and b) preferring to live in Prince's past. It's hugely irksome.

Maybe not this thread but it's common for fans to say his new music is bad/mediocre/etc because it's not as good as what he once did. Like I said, I respect everyones opinion and the fact that you're not a fan of this song. There are plenty that I dislike or downright HATE but I have a tendency to put myself in their shoes (not just his but the other people that worked on it) and knowing they might read this thread makes me feel bad for them, I guess.

Same here, the auto-tune is a joke for so-called 'real musicians' and Prince puts a hypocritical spin when it serves his purpose. I like it.

Prince songs go into many catagories for me, Screwdriver being a great house-cleaning, car washing song. Don't need to focus on every detail of it on repeated listens and just enjoy. Whereas songs like When Doves Cry, Thieves in the Temple, Anotherloverholenyohead (and many others) have me constantly listening trying to hear smething that I didn't hear before.

I don't know how well 'Rock n Roll Love Affair' was received but it's one of my favorites the past years.

I love RNR Affair and Screwdriver. But from what we've heard they don't seem to fit sonically with either of the 2 upcoming albums. I'd imagine there was a project which included these at some point but it became another to fall by the wayside.

There's no reason for you to be angry or frustrated.It's not that serious As you know,Prince is a very diverse artist who plays many different styles and has many different influences.Every fan is not gonna like everything he does and that's cool.Accept the different opinions and move on.

I agree I love RnR Love Affair. I think it wasn't included because it features Andy Allo and the prior incarnation of 3rdeyegirl before Donna joined. Of course they could have re-recorded it and released it. Just my 2 cents.
