why is it frustrating? If YOU like the song, blast it really loud and knock yourself out Why does it matter what other fans think? All that should matter to you is your OWN opinion/enjoyment of the song.I don't understand why some fans get frustrated/angry at negative opinions.

You may not, but I can't count the times I've read that he's not the same as he used to be, he used to be groundbreaking, what happened to the dude that wrote PR and SOTT. I wish people would just listen to a new track and like or dislike it for what IT is without some preconceived notion of what they think it's SHOULD be. It's really not fair. Everybody stop on the 1...GOOD GOD! Uhh!

dont forget that a lot of the reviews you will be reading are written by youngsters whose exposure to P will be back when they were very young / school age. Therefore they are listening through non biased younger ears rather than hardcore old ears like mine & yours! For P that's a really good thing. Now, if they would just sort out the marketing!

How do you know (and who are to judge) why people don't like this? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Frustrating for all the reasons I mentioned. I respect the opinions of others, I just hate that it's always so negative. I know that I'm not big on jazz, therefore I know that this new project that's possibly coming up I might not appreciate. I will , however, appreciate the fact that it is result of their hard work and respect them enough not to tear them apart for using too many horns or some stupid shit. Admittedly, the autotune is annoying and I wish he hadn't used it, but he did and it's not my place to say he's wrong for it. It's his song.. Everybody stop on the 1...GOOD GOD! Uhh!

Agreed!! I'm also a hardcore fan, and I think this track is sexy as HELL!! Eagerly anticipating both new CD's!!

I'm speaking specifically about the people that voice their hate for the new because it's not like the old. Everybody stop on the 1...GOOD GOD! Uhh!

I like the new, just not this one. RIP

I have, however, seen a lot of people who like this song accusing those who don't of a) being old and b) preferring to live in Prince's past. It's hugely irksome. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

This song sucks shit on its own lack of merit. No comparisons to classics necessary. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Maybe not this thread but it's common for fans to say his new music is bad/mediocre/etc because it's not as good as what he once did. Like I said, I respect everyones opinion and the fact that you're not a fan of this song. There are plenty that I dislike or downright HATE but I have a tendency to put myself in their shoes (not just his but the other people that worked on it) and knowing they might read this thread makes me feel bad for them, I guess. Do you like R&B or do you like his past R&B tracks? Just asking because I wondering if people dislike it because it's not a style they usually listen to? Everybody stop on the 1...GOOD GOD! Uhh!

Same here, the auto-tune is a joke for so-called 'real musicians' and Prince puts a hypocritical spin when it serves his purpose. Like when he said on the Arsenial Hall show that his beef with WB was they wanted him to release music faster (when it was the exact opposite) and he said he's 'oldskool' and is into releasing albums.... but his last 10 songs were released as singles.
'U Know' makes me gag 'Breakdown' is success 'Rock n Roll Love Affair' = a hit 'Groovy Potential' and 'Extralovable Reloaded' are groovy 'Pretezbodylogic' stinks 'Breakfast Can Wait' and 'Clouds' are unmistakably Prince. 'Clouds' is growing on me.

I'm disappointed this wasn't included on either album. What did you think of Screwdriver? [Edited 9/1/14 17:24pm] Everybody stop on the 1...GOOD GOD! Uhh!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I like it. Prince songs go into many catagories for me, Screwdriver being a great house-cleaning, car washing song. Don't need to focus on every detail of it on repeated listens and just enjoy. Whereas songs like When Doves Cry, Thieves in the Temple, Anotherloverholenyohead (and many others) have me constantly listening trying to hear smething that I didn't hear before.
I don't know how well 'Rock n Roll Love Affair' was received but it's one of my favorites the past years.

I love RNR Affair and Screwdriver. But from what we've heard they don't seem to fit sonically with either of the 2 upcoming albums. I'd imagine there was a project which included these at some point but it became another to fall by the wayside. RIP

There's no reason for you to be angry or frustrated. It's not that serious As you know,Prince is a very diverse artist who plays many different styles and has many different influences.Every fan is not gonna like everything he does and that's cool.Accept the different opinions and move on.

Lyrically interesting.I think he's talking about Warner Brothers.

After listening to it again I do too! I don't think it's just about a relationship or a woman 'sinning'.

lol I hear you. I'm definitely not losing any sleep over it
I really like RnRLA. If I had my way, it would replace PBL but unfortunately I don't have that authority.

I agree I love RnR Love Affair. I think it wasn't included because it features Andy Allo and the prior incarnation of 3rdeyegirl before Donna joined. Of course they could have re-recorded it and released it. Just my 2 cents.

wow. utter shit. What makes this song just a teensy bit decent, in my eyes, is that it follows Clouds, which is quite possibly the worst Prince song I've heard in my life, that shit made me wanna cry. . I agree with everyone who thinks this is gonna be Prince's worst album.. seriously, listening to the crappy 3rdeyegirl collabs/leaks and AOA leaks makes fucking Musicology and 3121 look like classics. . I may be a little biased, however. Musicology/3121/Planet Earth/Lotus came with a decent fashion, at least. Prince in suits, normal hair, professional looking, Idunno, but it somehow made the ERAS seem more likeable and maybe this added onto the fact the songs were no longer groundbreaking like in the 80s/90s but were still relatively enjoyable, not bad at all. . THIS SHIT TAKES THE CAKE, I SWEAR. Terrible terrible terrible fashion (those shades! those pants! those wierd ass fur things he drapes around himself! that horribly outdated afro not seen on Prince since 1978!) he looks more like a 2014 Jimi Hendrix tribute act playing Chris Brown outtakes . Seriously, even the mainstream artists of today Katy Perry etc are MUCH better than Prince. Why? Because nowadays Prince and them are all performing the same type of music. Only difference is they know how to do it and Prince is still stuck with his head up his ass, knowing that no matter what he puts out it'll be heralded as "THE NEWEST SONG OF ICON, LEGEND, MASTER PRINCE!!!!" . So fucking disappointing. I wasn't a Prince fan in 2010 (I became one in 2011) so this is my first Prince album released during my fandom. And WOW it's shaping up to be his worst album of all time . For a title like AOA (which sounds like his signature scream), I expected better! Maybe do, just not like did before

I don't like most mainstream music today but I'm not going to gripe about it like it makes me miserable.

. no, but when he starts looking like Jimi Hendrix and singing like Chris Brown, the whole image is just a complete turn-off. Like a fat panty-wearing clown playing the tamborine. . You're right though, the image shouldn't matter. However, when the music is already bad, a bad image doesn't make things any better
Maybe do, just not like did before
