wow. utter shit.

What makes this song just a teensy bit decent, in my eyes, is that it follows Clouds, which is quite possibly the worst Prince song I've heard in my life, that shit made me wanna cry.

.

I agree with everyone who thinks this is gonna be Prince's worst album.. seriously, listening to the crappy 3rdeyegirl collabs/leaks and AOA leaks makes fucking Musicology and 3121 look like classics.

.

I may be a little biased, however. Musicology/3121/Planet Earth/Lotus came with a decent fashion, at least. Prince in suits, normal hair, professional looking, Idunno, but it somehow made the ERAS seem more likeable and maybe this added onto the fact the songs were no longer groundbreaking like in the 80s/90s but were still relatively enjoyable, not bad at all.

.

THIS SHIT TAKES THE CAKE, I SWEAR. Terrible terrible terrible fashion (those shades! those pants! those wierd ass fur things he drapes around himself! that horribly outdated afro not seen on Prince since 1978!) he looks more like a 2014 Jimi Hendrix tribute act playing Chris Brown outtakes lol lol

.

Seriously, even the mainstream artists of today Katy Perry etc are MUCH better than Prince. Why? Because nowadays Prince and them are all performing the same type of music. Only difference is they know how to do it and Prince is still stuck with his head up his ass, knowing that no matter what he puts out it'll be heralded as "THE NEWEST SONG OF ICON, LEGEND, MASTER PRINCE!!!!"

.

So fucking disappointing. I wasn't a Prince fan in 2010 (I became one in 2011) so this is my first Prince album released during my fandom. And WOW it's shaping up to be his worst album of all time barf

.

For a title like AOA (which sounds like his signature scream), I expected better!

Wait. So the quality of his music can be judged based on what he's wearing? sad

[Edited 9/1/14 18:18pm]

.

no, but when he starts looking like Jimi Hendrix and singing like Chris Brown, the whole image is just a complete turn-off. Like a fat panty-wearing clown playing the tamborine.

.

You're right though, the image shouldn't matter. However, when the music is already bad, a bad image doesn't make things any better

I never heard Prince sing like Chris Brown.

I like R&B. I just think this song (and Clouds, Breakfast, and Breakdown) is terrible.

I don't get R&B from this song at all.

I love Breakdown, Clouds, Breakfast and snippet so far, most favorite so far FunkNRoll. "U know" not as much but maybe its a grower?? Will be good to hear how this fits on the album and doubt I will skip tracks. Overall I'm pleased with what I hear from both projects. Prince is diverse and he can please everyone

There are a number of artists that I consume their catalogue as a whole and not per song. My other musical obsession, besides Prince, is Frank Zappa, who considered his entire output to be one composition. I don't mind U Know at all right now and I'm confident there will come a time when this song and album will be on the top of my hit parade. There have been plenty of Prince albums that snuck up on me even ten years after their release that was indifferent about on first listen.

For those who don't like U Know and say they're not buying AOA, Stop lying! Y'all are going to buy it! U Know is straight funk! Definitely a head bopper. I'm digging this more than Clouds. This song really sparks my interest in AOA. BTW I'm a HARDCORE Prince fan.

i like the music, although the use of a sample seems to contradict a lot of what P was saying about sampling in the emancipation era... guess he's 'evolved'

.

it's not a bad track. i think i like it more than clouds. the vocal will have to grow on me, but it's not bad at all. i hope P does get a little bit of the grit back in his voice

Whitecaps a song from the 3rdeyegirl record is streaming on the same website. Lord have mercy Prince has lost his fucking mind with the lyrics. They are laughable. I am astonished that he would release whitecaps

Look if it was my teenage daughter writing those lyrics I would say good work...keep it up. Understand this is fucking Prince

I liked hers better lol.... That being said there is absolutely nothing wrong with Prince sounding current. I like the song although again he has trouble delivering the vocal rhythmically ....he stumbles a couple of times. Rapping really does give him some trouble.

I'm digging it more than any of the other recent tracks. Prince has decided to make a "no surprises" middle of the road R&B album with AoA. Fine I guess. Harmless enough. Not breaking any new ground (listen to FKA Twigs if you want something "new") or showing off with crazy thick, wide breadth, chock full of ideas music (listen to Kimbra's Golden Echo) but pretty much what I guess we should expect from Prince now.

Poor dude is over 55. Let him be and go softly into that good night.

The dumbed down vocal auto crap effect made me stop after about 20 seconds. After all the time I've spent defending his recent output, I'm finally truly pissed. Even if there is a good song in there, which I don't know, since I had to stop it after 20 seconds, I really don't care. So sad that such a brilliant artists has to stoop so low as to follow the trends of young awful artists who can't sing at all. Can you imagine Bob Dylan doing this? Stevie Wonder? Hell No.

Nice!!! That's a great album track. It's a good sign that it had me bobbing my head, smiling, and grooving on first listen. I wouldn't say it's a single or radio song, but that's totally fine.

This album is looking up. I'm psyched to hear it. And honestly, I'm satisfied now with the number of previews and early releases/singles. This can tide me over until the album release date.

Same here! Actually, I may be crazy...but I think it's something that I think my teenage kids can get in to if properly packaged as part of this promotional blitz. I said it when "Clouds" was released. That track sounded contemporary (with a hint of classic styling), and this new one sounds even more geared for that type of audience. All I can really say is, I'm straight diggin' it!! Can't wait to hear the rest!!

What's the sample of?

I agree, I like the music. I kind of hope he's sampling himself. I don't dislike the song itself, but naturally, I wish he'd write great songs, not just produce great arrangements of mediocre-to-shit songs

I really dont know what people are expecting

The Mila J song Blinded is pretty good and so was the mixtape she released

Prince has just moved into modern times and its time most people on here moved to it aswell

You are not going to see another Purple Rain, Sign O The Times etc ever again

.

I like Clouds but like this better but thought The Breakdown was terrible

Parts of U Know have that Pharrell feel about it - its the sound at the moment so just deal with it

.

I like the fact that he has gone back to his black RnB sound

Maybe the only critisiscm is he has lost his edge a bit

It's comments like this that make me wonder if there is a comprehension problem on this site.

Nobody is asking that Prince retread anything. All folks want is good music.

This U Know abortion-of-a-song ain't it.

I really like it, SEXY as hell!

I'm torn on how I feel about the fact that the music is almost directly lifted from that Mila J track. But as long as the artist herself is cool with it, then I can't really complain.

I noticed this, too. He sounds like he doesn't have enough breath to complete some of the phrases. Like in the very beginning, the line that ends with "pleasure, pleasure," he sounds like he can barely eek out that last "pleasure."
