Opinions must not really be welcome then. I want to buy it, but if I didn't want to buy it, I would feel free to share my opinion. This site is again too full of people who are either too positive or too negative, and can't seem to live with knowing that there is room for debate and differing opinions than yours. Sad.

opinions help us discuss feelings about the songs. statements refering to purchase do not. its that simple.

I like it. I also liked Breakfast Can Wait, Clouds, Funknroll, and Breakdown. I've only heard This Could Be Us and the Gold Standard a couple of times and like those too. I'm kind of shocked how many people are saying they like WHITECAPS and this one is getting all the hate. I haven't been this excited for a new Prince album since Emancipation, even though I'm down to about 4 that I haven't heard yet.

Thank you! I'm sorry but Whitecaps is kinda corny to me. Breakfast can wait, Clouds, U know - all of em have been pretty good to me. Yeah I'm actually excited.

It all depends on how you define a hit.

The more that the fans hate this song, the bigger this will be a hit with general audience lol.

Yes, Prince has had dozens of big hits since 2009...no, since 2006...uh since 2004...uh since 1999...nope, uh ummmm since 1997? Try ONE top 40 hit in 1995, and don't forget that "1999" re-entered the Top 40 in 1998/99 at #40. So in the last NINETEEN EFFIN years, we are talking One Top 40 hit.

He's done with the charts....get over it. Now if someone would tell Prince to stop chasing hits, and NOT use Auto Tune, we'd all be better off.

"U Know" is simply not a good song. It's mediocre at best.Sounds like something Drake would do.

"Clouds",on the other hand,is great.

I've heard This Could Be Us and The Gold Standard full versions at Paisley Park parties a couple of times. I love This Could Be Us. The Gold Standard is faster paced than all the other ones that we've heard so far from this album. I'm hoping the ones that I haven't heard are as well.

This song us bloody fucking awful. The only good thing about it is the title is "U Know" instead of the even stupider but more Princelike "U No."

This is worse than Wedding Feast and Purple & Gold.

Between this and "Clouds" it looks like Prince is trying to hit that quiet storm / contemporary R&B vibe hard. Sampling that track is part of that vibe. And he's brought back the wet reverb to the mix.

I like the music a lot. I like the chorus a lot. I don't like Prince's lead vocal much, at this point. All it's missing is lead guitar to add that Prince signature to it. I think lyrically it's unrelateable, but overall I kind of like this song. "Can you feed me, baby?", lol. Another titty-licking reference. smile This better not be the best new track on the album, because it's still hella flawed, but it feels like a strong step to a Prince resurgence, well a step anyway, lol.

This is just atrocious shit music that he should be ashamed of.

.

It's like panning for gold with Prince these days. You might get the occasional speck of gold but there are so many shit nuggets in the pan too. Frankly, i'm sick of sifting through all that shit and feeling stinky.

Interesting that the so-called 'hardcore' Prince fans are hating 'U know' but the media is loving it and they haven't liked anything Prince since Musicology. It is a legitimate attempt at hit making from Prince in a long long time.'U know' IMO is a catchy, head-nodding, track that has caught the attention of young kids who haven't been exposed to Prince besides youtube. It's a smartly worked sample and vocal. I see complaints about it being simple, like Prince hits like 1999, I would die for you, If I was your GF, Sign of the times, etc aren't musically simple? Prince's early success has created an elitist/entitled group of fans that won't like anything unless if follows a certain "Prince" criteria. I heard from my uncle who is in the industry, who was a kid when Prince dropped his hallmark albums and he told me he couldn't stop playing the song. It's like fans here feel the need to hold Prince's talent to some otherworldly standard and blast him for making simple, good songs. I hated everything in 2000's besides a few tracks here and there. I joined this forum a few months ago and never posted until today because it's the first piece of music from Prince that actually made me get up and dance. I was eager to see what the fans thought and everywhere but here people love it. I actually heard it was on wbls radio in NY. Listen I'm not here to pass judgment for something so subjective like art and music. If you don't like it then fine that's an opinion you're welcome to have. I just want to say that if you're waiting on a ground breaking, soul changing Prince record, you're not gonna get that now so don't hold him to the standard he set 30 years ago. Prince is not wasting his talent, he already gave us the best music anyone could from 1978-1994. 'U know' is certainly not the worst thing he's ever done and not the best, it's a simple sample with good, catchy vocals that made me move. biggrin

I agree. He seems to be going for a "Mr.Goodnight"-type vibe/sound.Imo,it works on "Clouds" but doesn't quite succeed on "U Know".

It is so frustrating to read the comments on the new music sometimes. I don't know what people want from this man.
He owes us NOTHING. It's HIS music. HIS creative output. Perhaps those of you ripping him to shreds should show him how it's done. I would hate it if I were constantly compared to my past. It's not 1987 anymore. He's not going to recreate SOTT. It's not fair to expect that of him (and some of you do, you know it whether you want to admit it or not)
Is this song what I expected to hear? No, but is it the worst thing I've ever heard? No! I like it quite a bit, actually. If you don't like R&B, it's obvious that this song isn't going to be your favorite, but this is nothing new. He's done this style before. I actually welcome it after so many rock-oriented tracks from 3EG.
I don't know.. If you guys are the fans, I don't want to know what the people that don't like him have to say. If he is happy with this album, I'm happy for him. Don't like it? Don't buy it and keep it movin'!

I'm with you, I hate the fucking auto tune. Since when do 'real musicians' that play 'real music' need auto tune. It is indeed embarrassing to say the least or just plain hypocritical.

I really dont know what people are expecting

The Mila J song Blinded is pretty good and so was the mixtape she released

Prince has just moved into modern times and its time most people on here moved to it aswell

You are not going to see another Purple Rain, Sign O The Times etc ever again

.

I like Clouds but like this better but thought The Breakdown was terrible

Parts of U Know have that Pharrell feel about it - its the sound at the moment so just deal with it

.

I like the fact that he has gone back to his black RnB sound

Maybe the only critisiscm is he has lost his edge a bit

I don't know why people assume that those who don't like this want another Purple Rain. PR isn't even in my top tier. And I can hate this track on the merits - not because I'm looking for a rehash of something else.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
