PRINCE GIVES THE PURPLE REINS TO NPG MUSIC PUBLISHING FOR WORLDWIDE ADMINISTRATION OF HIS CATALOGUE

Grammy winning multi-platinum music icon Prince has assigned his vast catalogue of songs to NPG Music Publishing. While the terms of the deal are not public, it includes a schedule of songs that Prince considers "fit 4 eternal publication."

The catalogue includes hits such as “Kiss,” “When Doves Cry,” “Little Red Corvette,” “Let's Go Crazy,” “U Got the Look,” “Purple Rain,” “Diamonds and Pearls,” and many, many more. NPG Music Publishing marks the first time Prince’s publishing has been independently controlled and administered in over twenty years.

NPG Music Publishing was founded by Artists for Artists. The team will be led by some of the best talent in the industry.

NPG Music Publishing assisted with Prince's newest single on Epic Records, "FALLINLOVE2NITE," which was featured in the hit FOX television show New Girl earlier this year. The special episode featuring Prince aired directly after the Super Bowl and brought in record-breaking viewership.

NPG Music Publishing is now actively seeking placement for some of Prince's best-loved songs in film, television, video games and the commercial realm.

Rolling Stone has called Prince "One of the most naturally gifted artists of all time," and now the world will be able to experience and enjoy more of his music through a myriad of mediums.

Well interesting for observers of the music industry as well. Prince's business decisions are extremely fascinating because its one area where he's never followed trends.

I don't anticipate anything groundbreaking. This is a money-grab for Prince (and he's earned it).
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

If he could, i think the removal of all existing WB cd stock and itunes uploads (also radio/streaming services) would be a good move and then re-introduce remasters one by one and create a buzz for them.

well yes and no,

Yes Prince/NPG Publishing will make a load of $$$ off the syncs, but syncs help brake new artists and help with pitching songs to radio stations. Although many of these songs wont be "new" and he isnt a new artist, these syncs could open up Prince to an all new fanbase

I've discovered 2 artists I like alot by Shazamming songs off a commercial and during a movie I didnt know of the artist or the song before hearing it on the tv/screen.

I bet this will not include songs like 'sister', 'darling nikki', 'erotic city' etc etc

It means well princes music will be licensed far more often...which IS interesting for fans. A third party that ISNT prince is handling the licensing and likely to make the music more easily accessible than princes tight squeeze have allowed in the past. Maybe more samples...commercials. His imprint on pop culture will be more accurately portrayed than in the manner he has heavily shielded his catalogue use in the past.

This is VERY interesting for fans.

And just maybe a rocksmith...if I was npg publishing I would definaly push for a deal with those type of gaming products...very lucrative.

Rocksmith is an intersting proposition as it removes the supposed objection he has to guitar hero being as it's not a real instrument. I don't have Rocksmith, nor do I play guitar but I have a Hohner Telecaster gathering dust. "Rocksmith Prince" would provide the motivation I've been lacking.

He gave gontrolnof licensing to a third party for large, famous portions of the catalogue. The degree of leeway they have to make licensing decisions is likely limited, not of free reign status, but at least is isn't Prince doing it. Prince is emotionally invested in many of these tunes and has avoided many lucrative deals that flop on his desk due to this emotional investment and desire to keep his 'chirren unbastardized'

With a third party having more control, soundtrack deals(which have been minimal), video games(which prince avoided like the Ebola virus) and probably samples in pop music and commercials(only little red corvette and hot thing... Other acts have multitudes of tunes in commercials...commercials equal exposure) as well...also helping to make the decisions of where and how new music is to be released(a la FALLINLUV2NITE) instead of prince doing all of that himself as well as making music. Music is likely to start flowing faster. For the services...npgpublishing operators get a cut.

I'm no publishing contract lawyer, but from what I've read this seems to be the boulevard taken.

Some reports make it sound third party...some make it sound in-house and under more of princes control...I'm am confused now like many others.
