this is a win win situation 4 all. true fans have seen every artist get the star treatment rerelease but Prince,It's about time 4us 2finally get those 12"singles and b sides that have never been released.Release those live shows and end all the problems with the fans. Who can loose....

well yes and no,

Yes Prince/NPG Publishing will make a load of $$$ off the syncs, but syncs help brake new artists and help with pitching songs to radio stations. Although many of these songs wont be "new" and he isnt a new artist, these syncs could open up Prince to an all new fanbase

I've discovered 2 artists I like alot by Shazamming songs off a commercial and during a movie I didnt know of the artist or the song before hearing it on the tv/screen.

It just means he saw what happened with other artists and realized there's money being left on the table AND how back catalogs are often mismanaged (Michael Jackson, James Brown) after their death.

Dollars to donuts, he's just earmarked songs he feels are done to death that you already hear all over the place (Supermarkets, Malls), where there's no integrity to protect, and he's trying to cash in on that.... I expect the stuff to turn up in Comedies about 20 somethings dating, or the random Wayan Brothers film. It'll only appear in the most vapid of contexts, I bet you. Nothing threatening or making a statement.

As for WB, I think it just dawned on Prince he never stopped being in business with them. WB was probably the only ones still sending him monthly checks and now they're offering artist friendly terms.
