So, instead of Universal controlling the publishing rights and doing nothing, it'll be Prince controlling them (and doing nothing) but, in an incompetent manner??

Stop with this insulting Prince's business sense! Its getting old & uncalled for. STOP IT!!!!

To anyone (like myself) who is a "very" long time fan, it's well known that he has very little (if any) business sense.

So with some input from you...I gather that something very specialized is going to be handled by prince?

.

What is so frikking hard about figuring out what music publishing is? If you care, just investigate. Google it, read up on it,...

.

The press anncmnt intimates that a group of people will be running it and not just prince or is this just some malarkey.

.

I bet the NPG Records announcement said just the same thing. Ended up being Levi in an office and no budget for anything. The press release is boilerplate stuff.

.

VW with Housequake.

.

Oh for crying out loud, that was a STUDENT MOVIE or something like that. Never was a real commercial. Sheesh, is it so bloody hard to remember such basic facts?

.

In don't understand why the presumption is that this will fail, or how it can fail.

.

Just name one P venture that wasn't a total failure and lasted more than a year.

To anyone (like myself) who is a "very" long time fan, it's well known that he has very little (if any) business sense.

So the Musicology year that wasn't successful? His decision to make Purple Rain the movie that wasn't big business sense? Doing the superbowl? His Vegas residency, Opening his own recording studio complex, Leaving warners going independent? What other 80's black superstar is still making millions and recording and performing consistently? He is still at the top of his game.

Also how long have U been a fan? I've been a fan from almost the beginning. I am not an after "Purple Rain" fan..

I don't feel Prince has done a bad job of

managing his career since he left WB.The

problems he has had come from trying to

circumvent the traditional marketing practices

with wacky ticket sales and gimmicky means

of releasing new music.

Talent needs recognition.

We see P's talent in music.

But P does not see reason to change his business practices.

Both Warner-Chappell and Universal are industry leaders on that front; nothing stopped P from doing so before. The ONLY problem was P, and we already know that his music is barely used in Late Night shows because P demands absurd amounts of money AND NOBODY IS WILLING TO PAY THOSE. P can demand millions, doesn't mean anyone is going to pay that.

.

I honestly think that it bother you and a lot of others to see this guy on top of his business game.

.

Oh yes, please inform us again of his massive successes. Ignore that his latest album wasn't even released worldwide, or that he bitched for years because the likes of iTunes won't pay him the milliuons he feels he deserves. Ignore that anything he's released in the past 15+ years is utterly ignored by everyone and their dog, that none of those songs get covered or used in soundtracks etc. and that P himself can't be arsed to perform most/all of it in concert. Ignore that he's been peddling his 3EG crap to record companies for over a year and that there's still no release date.

.

"Top of his business game". Laughable. I can come up with plenty of ideas that would be so lucrative Prince wouldn't need to tour anymore and perform his sad greatest hits sets night after night.

Well.. someone had sand in their vagina.

.

In all seriousness, who really cares if his music hasn't been used in soundtracks? Who cares if none of his recent music was covered by anyone else?

.

Does Prince NEED this? Do you know if he WANTS this?

.

For an artist whos been around since the late 70's, is he not allowed to 'give the fans what they want' by playing his "sad greatest hits sets"?

.

Your last line there; Do you think Prince would like to stop touring? You seem to have alot of ideas, it's hard to see why P hasn't already hired you!

for almost 20 years now, unless i'm mistaken, Prince has been on the independent tip. this statement is based on when Emancipation was released. since then, through many challenges, he has managed to entertain, maintain respect and perform endlessly. many other artists from his generation, with the support of major labels, have not been as prolific or active as Prince. if one supports independent musicians, then this latest step for Prince is revolutionary. artists should profit to the max for their art, and not record companies whose artistic endeavours are often questionable.

personally, i'm always happy when Prince prospers...not just artistically, but knowing that he's running his things and doing so in a manner which makes him happy...and ensuring we keep getting music

Not necessarily. He still charges a larger sum for the rights to use the music (more than the average musician/composer does) and he still has to approve of the use of the music. Nothings change except he personally pays the people to handle the requests and CONtracts; cutting out the huge fee/royalty of a traditional publishing company.
