Okay, after the shortest surrender ever, I am back to reporting whatever numbers I can find. The song was falling off Amazon this morning, I believe at 394, and is now back up to 325.
I BELIEVE!

The irony is, it's not so much that I think the song is a classic, it's a nice pop song that has a good vibe to it but not on my Top 50 or Top 100 list. What my goal with this thread was to notate the chart success (or sometimes lack thereof) of the song because I am a fan of Prince having hits, even though it will do nothing for me personally and it's not like I will receive a dime from my cheerleading efforts. Are you reading the same information that the rest of us are reading? It looks like it is selling but not getting airplay which may have a lot to do with P's age. It kind of shows that people like but not the radio Gods.
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
. I don't think age matters that much. He doesn't act old so unless a person knows his age, I don't think they'd think he's 55. Look at Steven Tyler.. he still does whatever he wants and most people eat it up. P still looks and sounds great so I don't see any reason for his age to hinder his career. Everybody stop on the 1...GOOD GOD! Uhh!

I'm not sure that's a factor in this case. It *is* making it to radio and it *is* getting spins... however, the listening audience has to be enthused about it for it to get more spins. I'm sure this is more a reflection of the song than his age.

FALLINLUV is a great little pop song. You all are some of the most spoiled, ungrateful fans. I don't get the criticism. But whatever. Regardless it's probably done on the charts. It feels like the momentum is gone. Why wasn't the album released or a date announced by now? I'm sad. Again though, this song is fantastic. I listen to it on the way to work every morning. Gets me pumped up for the day. Wish it had more traction on radio. I listened to 97.1 in L.A. at work for four hours straight one day hoping to catch it. I heard "Happy" 6 times in four hours. That's not a joke. 6 times. I heard John Legends " All of me" 4 times. Again no joke. And I heard Dr. dre's "Dre Day" (a song that is 14 years old). But I did not hear FALLINLUV. I thought Happy was a great song the first hundred times I heard it. Same with john legends song. But seriously, does it need THAT much play? Every 45 minutes Happy came on. Surely there's room for other new music. Right? It kind of makes me wonder what goes into programming at radio stations. I wish u heaven

No, it's not. I was born in the seventies, my interest in music was heavy, and the 80ies were a fantastic period for great pop music. There were so many talents who delivered excellent pop music, prince was one of them. Compared with all the great work from this era I can say that this song is NOT a great pop tune. Even nowadays there is so much better pop music out there.
It's a better song than Jughead or 1999 The New Master, but it's not great.

It does not matter to us the music buying public but radio spends a lot of money on market research and they care about the youth because they do buy the most music and products. Radio stations make their money from ads and the advertisers want people to buy stuff. This is what ultimately makes a radio station decided on their format and what age group they are trying to reach. I think P looks great for his age and has a good mind for young pop music but just like other older artist he is not getting radio play. He would probably be better off working as a producer or songwriter.

I disagree! What about Pharrell? He is considered old in his 40's. But looks young and he still has the number one song played EVERY hour. Jay- Z if reports are right, he is closing in on 50 and still has top 10 hits & radio play. It can be done! Prince just isn't signed to a major long term contract. That is the only difference. R Kelly is another one. He has a hit with Lady Gaga. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! Looking on CNN's app this morning and they had an ad for FALLINLOVE2NITE. Don't know if that's somehow triggered by all the Prince music on my phone. Big brother has ways..... Either way, cool to see the ad.

I get that iTunes ad for the song absolutely everywhere I go that has ads--it's wasted on me, since I bought it the first day (from Amazon, so I guess it's doubly wasted--I'll buy the next thing from Amazon too, if possible). Like I asked earlier, is this campaign only hitting us, or are the great masses also getting the push? Ads that are too focused aren't going to accomplish much--but I certainly understand that it wouldn't do any good for them to be popping up for my mother-in-law (who as far as I can tell has no response to music of any variety).
