This song is actually not bad. Haven't really warmed to LOL but this one's got something. I have listened to it a number of times now and sometimes I like it and then not. I am not really into rock, maybe that's why. Has anyone else noticed a couple of spots in the song where it sounds like it has been cut?

Yes, that is recording of the stream this AM. The recording of the stream is not complete it sounds like it was recorded with a commodore 64, with skips and clicks.

I found another recording where it is complete.
Anyway I would probably dig it more if it was more funky rather than straight rock.

We are a fickle bunch but I don't get the distaste for this. I'm not freaked about it but this is solid good songwriting with all the Prince bells and whistles-- strong melodic hook, killer solo, out-of-left-field rave-up. Is it going to burn up the charts? No. But I'm diggin it. Go on, P.

It's Pretty dull, not much of song there.

Not much in his discography I dislike, but this and Lol are in that very small club.

Could this be the worst Prince era ever.

OK - I've been on this board for a good long time, and I can generally agree with the overall tenor.

But I really don't get what the problem is that everyone has with this track.

I really, really like it - love the overall tone, the progressions, the backing vox, the weirdness of the solo and the jerkiness in places - it sounds kind of new and definitely different - and that's why I listen to Prince.

It's not Purple Rain, but then neither was Around the World in a Day - and that's kind of the point...

Now I'm glad I saved my 88 cents. neutral All soloing for no reason. The lyrics work in some parts. Hook is a bit lazy. I'll give it a few more spins while I can. The 3rdeyegirl.com songs were all pretty tight and I initially disliked RNR Affair and it became my theme song for 2 days, so I'm still anticipating the new apparent cd, as if I had a choice in the matter. geek

Recent tracks like Colonized Mind & Wall of Berlin let me know that he still has it and a "sub par" track of his is still more rewarding than the majority of music that's out there.

Do yourself a favour, go to youtube and listen to "Quit it" by Miriam Makeba. Then you know where prince had his "inspiration" from for Colonized Mind. I used to love this song, but since I know that he just ripped off another artist without giving credit I can't listen to it anymore.

Not bad. 6.5/10

Positives: I like the "sound". Kind of a bit more '90s-alternative-rock' than the normal 'Hendrix/Led Zep' rock style he normally goes for. It's definitely listenable.

Negatives: Lyrics are a bit preachy, confused and occasionally clumsy. The faster/funker bit at the end is funky, but it seems a bit needlessly tacked on.

But promising signs nontheless. Looking forward to the album! cool

I actually don't think it's that bad. It's different. Prince isn't going to make another PR or IIWYG, so I think the mentality of "he ain't what he used to be" needs to be gotten over with. Yeah, this song may sound a little like a 54 year old appealing to the listeners who're 24, but he's trying to regain the broader audience he had in his heyday.

I'm just happy to have the priviledge to listen to new music. smile

How is he doing that again?

yea, way to "broaden audience"

But he's trying
something. i find it entertaining that there are all these Easter eggs out and about. If it's not your cup of tea that's fine, but your comment just listed the things he's doing lately to get himself some attention. You don't have to like it, but it is what it is.

ok, i've listened again since i had 6 hours of sleep and posted my initial

grumpy old muppet reaction smile

.

and now, i actually think the first verse is pretty cool. i like the vocal on

that a lot and the very subtle psychedelic undertones.

.

not sure about the rest of the song yet. but it's a grower, that much is

obvious to me now. so yay smile

Holy sh!t I can't believe it. Prince is back y'all. He's back. For the first time in 15 years, I might actually buy a Prince album.

He finally put out a studio song that's "intense", both vocally and musically!

I love the way that he yells the chorus.

The guitar on the main melody remind me of "Let's Go Crazy".

"Fixurlifeup", hunh?

the songs would be a lot less forgettable if they had better lyrics though.

his playing is always good, his songs, although not as stellar as anything

he used to do, are always at least good to very good imo.

but his lyrics and the constant returning to a few done to death ideas are

what drags everything down imo.

it's his refusal to write songs about anything that goes beneath the crust

and touches on his own life.

.

i mean "you need to fix your life up"? really lol i think if i had 2 failed

marriages, a couple dozen girlfriends less than half my age, numerous

failed websites with disgruntled customers, constant problems with tax

and other bills, a religious fervor that alienated me from 90% of those

who used to care and my mind changed like the leaves on the trees,

yes, perhaps then i'd need to "fix up [my] life"

.

falloff

eek lol IstenSzek, You broke P's arse off something proper! razz lol

I'm getting a Gold era, C&D vibe off this track.

I really love the way the bass squirrels around... lyrics are average... great guitar work...

Breakfast can wait is still my goto track from this effort.

Sure Prince is an ass for getting all pissed when people remake his songs or take his ideas. Prince should have credited Miriam Makeba as a co-writer. Even the way he says "No Responsibility," is almost the same. So "Mind" is more of a remake just like "Crimson And Clover." Still, it has enough of his own ideas in it to not be a full rip off. So I like the song, but some of my love for it is taken away, but to never listen to it again? That's crazy.

FIXURLIFEUP is pretty good. It's not on the level with most of Lotus Flow3r, but it's a nice song. It's not the Garbage Bart Van Halen would have you believe....and it's not the MASTERPIECE our Great Boo Boo Buddy KoolMuzico says it is....it's just a nice song with some really good guitar parts, and yes, it has some rehashed Prince sounds in there.
